      Go on Facebook, find your best friend, tell him "Hey, your mother/wife/girlfriend/thatchickyouhaveathingfor (choose whichever applies) just died".

      Then after they check and find out that person is still alive, then message them saying "I meant in The Sims 3 lol". See how they react.
