Thanks for trying people, but I think mafia is dead in EWB for awhile

I've been given the go-ahead from TEOL to be allowed to run a new game of Resistance! Given the wane in interest for mafia recently, and it being 1 year since the last one I thought it's something we could enjoy.
For those unfamiliar with the basic concept, I'll summarise the game here and post the more detailed rules once the game actually starts. The players are split into two groups, Resistance and Spies. Spies know each other, Resistance doesn't. The game consists of five missions, with one player being selected as the Leader to decide who goes on each mission. The other players vote on whether to accept or reject the proposed team for the mission; if they reject, the Leader position is passed on to the next player who proposes a new team (note that only a certain number of rejections per mission are allowed). If they accept, any Spies sent on the mission secretly decide whether to sabotage the mission. Whether or not the mission succeeded or was sabotaged is revealed to the players and we move on to the next mission. The game ends either when three missions have succeeded, in which case the Resistance wins, or when three missions have been sabotaged, in which case the Spies win.
Game is for five to ten players, so sign up below.
Players:
- The Evil Kokichi Omalord
- Azazel
- Ms. Canadian Destroyer

A couple of practice games later and I worked out the mechanics - or thought I had - and decided to get to work establishing a new world order.
I chose Ireland in 1066 like all the guides said. To make sure my journey to the throne of the emerald isle gets off to a good start I took advantage of the "ruler designer" - the Irish deserve a demigod in charge so I racked up the stats and traits. Handsome, smart, diplomatic military superstar who's a genius. It couldn't get better than that. LET'S UNITE SOME LANDS PEOPLE!
So it turns out when you heap loads of positive traits on a ruler it adds on to their years. A lot. So instead of my super Sexy warlord I got an old man, who very quickly found that he couldn't do much of anything. A lot of the court people had relatively poor stats as well, and no one abroad wanted to come over. I decided to get married and try and squeeze out a kid wih some of papa's positive traits thinking it'll just be a do-over. Under false pretences I manage to lure some hot young lusty bimbo from the arse's end of nowhere, France, who will now never trust anyone again, straight down the wedding aisle. She would serve her purpose though, right? Wrong. Wouldn't you know it, the guy drops dead, his life and reign cruelly cut short... at the age of 60 odd, approximately two months into the reign.
Luckily, when cherry picking my God's attributes I chose to start with a son. IT TURNS OUT that when you make a son on the ruler designer they get none of the father's positive attributes. Also, since I'm now the grand total of zero years old, I'm not allowed to run the country. How much danger could I possibly get in? I can't even lift my own head. So we get regent Mr McAwful Mustache, based on his stats and portrait. He does nothing. Nothing at all but sitting on his mustachiod ass, collecting my cash. I've put the speed up to times five, which is still like a snail with a club foot as I desperately try to get to age 16. Some stuff happens, and I click through it. You'd think having no control because of the regency would mean I paid attention to the pop up things. You'd think wrong. I FINALLY hit sweet sixteen with all the attributes of a serial killer and make my first move.
The guides said to take control of your home region's city and church so I did. The current occupants were less than thrilled. The Bishop came quietly, albeit whispering hatred about me but the mayor giy wouldnt budge. None other than McAwful Mustache, who wanted to keep on his cash cow to the sweet life. So the church doesn't give me much soldiers, and hes got roughly the same numbers. But those sixteen years in regency meant I had some cash - a band of ugly, smelly, but somewhat reasonably priced mercenaries to the rescue! My band of outcasts chased McAwful around some counties until eventually defeating the army, then lay seige to the city. I clasp my fingers in an evil pyramid of revenge, as it falls without a problem. I won! I got back my city... MY city... where I'd killed all of my soldiers. The realisation hit me like an fat guy opening the fridge door. The cash is gone, so with it the mercenaries, and I'd just killed all of my soldiers in a bid to get my own city back. There's only one person to blame: McAwful Mustache. I read the warnings this time but I'm pissed at this point and too far gone, so I just double down. I execute McAwful Mustache, so that's the end of that.
Except now I've got one county, no vassals, no cash, no army and everyone in court hates me like a stole all of their potatoes.
I think I need to start again. This is a very emotional game.

The very best lifehack I can offer is to use your children to buy alliances. Marry people who don't stand to inherit and then bump the other rulers opinion up and form an alliance. If you can count on their levies plus your own it makes you sort of unstoppable. Be the tyrant your realm deserves. Fight off wars against your tyranny with foreign soldiers and revoke everything the traitors own. Land high skill characters or foreigners with claims as barons and priests. Press claims and then revoke titles from the claimant, win the war against the tyranny and execute the claimant; if need be, war against their sons and kill them too. Basically, you can never kill enough people.
When I start revoking titles of the vassals who try to betray me, everyone else hates me, meaning no levies. I've not tried execution as I suspected that would lead to a worse result.
So far my guys biggest achievement had been closing the gates of hell by throwing a couple of cows into a hole in the ground!

Getting into this game and enjoying it. I've got a basic grasp on the mechanics but FFS! The levy rates are very low compared to other regions, cash isn't exactly coming quick and so many damn factions/usurping vassals. HOW DO YOU DO WELL IN THIS GAME?!?

Come on you spineless herbivores, one more needs to sign up.

I'm up for it, sounds interesting

Possible 8 player game?
I'm up for it, but obviously disappointed. May be a break for a few months after this?

Would it be worth opening up and advertising a discussion to other parts of the forum in a bid to lure newer members in? An overview of how to play and citing examples from previous games?
-
I'm ready to boogie like Slurms McKenzie
-
To be honest I'm all for it. Not a fan when games go quiet though. It's a case of either waiting a while, or being selective about who gets to play.
-
So who's turn is it next? Or are we taking a break given the poor activity recently?

I'm still pissed off with Netflix after they took off Justified when I was half way through the series. Monsters.

I always liked Disturbed's "Believe" album, where as their others were way more popular, successful and gained more attention.

I guess there was a quicker way after all

Hi guys,
I get bogged down, and confused, quite easily while trying to set up the parameters in which I want to start a new game in EWR and end up losing interest out of frustration. I've never really wanted to play as WWE but recently gave it a shot and it was somewhat fun. However, I think it would be fun to split WWE into four national companies - Raw, Smackdown Live, 205 Live and NXT. Just for a little more competition and to see what company does what and with who etc. I'm currently using the February 2018 file (credit to mkpunk). Is the best way about doing this removing WWE as a promotion and creating four new promotions with equal stats, manually inputting all other information in the file editor and assigning their own television shows, titles, staff etc. or is there a faster way to do it?
I could just be overlooking something really simple or whatever. Feel free to tell me if I am. Or if there's already a data file out there with this done. Help please. Thanks haha
There isn't a faster way of doing it I'm afraid. Rename WWE to one of the brands, say RAW, and use that to start. Then create the other companies and draft the workers from the shortlist so you don't have to look for them all.

I didn't like having to delete a promotion to make my own. I'd rather r just exclude a couple of nonessential ones.
I can throw my cap in on helping out Idol, if needed.

Yeah I've played it. Not sure how well suited to forum play it would be. Might be easier with some sort of immediate response message system... though we can only speculate as to how such a thing could be achieved.
Careful. Talk like that may cause some discord here.

Thinking on it, @LittleDaniel could you change mine from RR to "The X-Files: The Mafia is Out There"? 15 players. Need to downsize or the game won't work, and there's no way I was getting 20+ for Royal Rumble. I've still got the stuff for it though so potentially in future.
-
I've cut down what I planned to since the decline in active players. I can't imagine it's due to the theme since most of us are up for any iteration of the game. It wasn't the long ago when we ran two games simultaneously.

Hey everyone, in my work we are doing Learning At Work Week, and as part of the L&D Team I'll be helping run this. I made a poster on GIMP - first attempt. Can I get some feedback on this before I send it to my boss? Some critique or advice? I'm very new to design.
Thanks!
