I would recommend Somebody Somewhere. It is about a woman who comes back to her small town after not really accomplishing much to take care of her ailing sister and the grief she is feeling in this small town after her sisters death. Really great stuff. We breezed through 7 episodes. It ends unresolved, so don't watch if you hate that.

I did not know what this show as until you mentioned it but it seemed totally up my alley and I watched an episode a day for a week, it was fantastic.

It's pretty favorable for a young Canada team with Belgium and Croatia both in the thick of club seasons (and relatively old). Morocco are tricky. It always seems like one of the teams that finished in the top 4 at the last World Cup absolutely sucks in the next one and safe money is on that team being Croatia or Belgium.

Also nice thing is I believe England-US occurs on Black Friday here in the States. Glad that's the match I don't need to play work calendar blocking shenanigans with.

I absolutely think Phonzie and David amongst others can run at those aging Belgian and Croatia defenders and cause some damage. Canada’s weakness lies in defence so it could go either way but the group could have been a lot worse. The team needs to play against some decent non CONCACAF sides though and I’m glad Herdman said there’d be some friendlies against that type of opposition before the World Cup.

  3. There’s a lot of bad takes on this one. Chris Rock was being an unfunny late stage comedian but Will Smith’s reaction was that of someone that’s not entirely mentally balanced. His victory speech was the rambling mess of an egomaniac and it’s disappointing that he didn’t get played off because the show wanted ratings and a buzz moment

Here’s hoping they both disappear off the pop culture landscape for a while. I feel very bad for Jessica

  4. In the 2000s we used to struggle to beat Guadeloupe and Martinique. More often than not we used to lose to them too. They’re not even countries! In 2012 we got knocked out of the World Cup qualifiers by Honduras losing 8-1. The entire time Atiba Hutchinson was the only player that played at his best the whole time. He’ll be 39 at the World Cup. I’m glad we’re giving him one, the dude really deserves it.

  5. Short of a Gerard slip, Canada should be qualified for the World Cup tonight. It will be the first time I am conscious for their qualification (they qualified when I was less than a year old). It’s the result of a decade long project to build up the game in this country and taking a fantastic (English!) women’s coach and seeing if he can do this for the men’s team (he can!). I am not in the least bit nationalistic but I feel a strong affinity for a team that’s a pile of refugees going to the World Cup. Can’t wait to see how they fare.

We have instituted no electronics days in the house,so I'm reading books. I have always been a casual reader, but I enjoy a good book.

I picked up Carrie first, but any recommendations for anything after would be great. I'm not a fan of fantasy... No imagination here. Preferably something shorter.

If you want something that delves into human emotions etc, I’m going to recommend My Year of Rest and Relaxation by Otessa Moshfegh. If you want a trashy thriller I’m going to recommend the Silent Patient by Alex Michaelidis. If you want an awesome short story collection. that you can pick up and read anytime I recommend Broken by Don Winslow.
