  1. I think Foster's production will drop this year without Vonta Leach as Fullback. I'd attribute a lot of it to him. big boost for the Ravens getting such a quality FB.

This is true. Biggest reason I was jacked to get Ray Rice in the first round.

I'm expecting his production to drop a little bit. Now defenses will be gameplanning for him all year long, and he won't get any of those 'Wait, who the fuck is that guy?' crazy stats like last year. Not as many anyway.

Yeah, they can gameplan for him and then get lit up for 300 yards and three TDs out of Schaub all year. The defenses have to weigh their options very carefully.

  2. I always wondered what Carr's career could of looked like if the Texans stuck with him instead of getting Matt Schaub, and if the Texans would be having the same luck they are having now. Even though their line was as bad as it was, Carr did a lot for what he had. He also had a career high completion percentage his last year in Houston also.

Could it have been a sign that there was better things to come from David Carr? I guess we will never know.

Houston still hasn't ever improved their offensive line. Yeah, they signed Schaub. Yeah they signed Andre Johnson to a huge deal. But they still haven't addressed the offensive line. I don't believe things would have ever changed. Matt Schaub =David Carr 2.0

Arian Foster hasn't seemed to mind it, either.

  3. Starrman ... You should be able to pick your own league

Should be, but I got a "Cannot join this group" message. Looked like this:

    Cannot join this group

Different Conferences - Your selected entry uses a different conference than this group. You can only join groups who use the same conference as your entry. Either create another entry or change this entry's conference if you have not yet accrued any points.

  4. I know it's pre-season but, The Chicago Bears... the team that makes the Buffalo Bills defense and David Carr look good. :pervert:

I fully expect Dragsy to give me hell for that.

I kid I kid. The numbers made Carr look better than what we know of him. Plus, he was working with the 2nd team. I just wanted to say something because it was against the Bears.

Edit: Here are the numbers for those who are curious. Nothing fancy.

    QB Rating: 138.1 - 9/11, 84yds, 2 TDs, 0 INT

How about I give you a little hell for it?

No Lance Briggs, only four series of Urlacher, and Carr shredded the backups. Yep, it's preseason.

Besides, I still assert that Carr would have been a fine QB if his pocket in Houston hadn't been slightly less safe than standing in the middle of an Interstate highway. Now, the dude's jumpier than Tweek from South Park.

  5. Also, college fantasy football (ESPN) ... play it:

Pick'em group EWB, password: Death Penalty

Showdown group EWB, password: Prop Bets

    Challenge group EWB, password: Homerism

^ .... come on, there's got to be more than ONE of you with some nuts :shifty:

Probably not. There doesn't seem to be many who like to read, either. *COUGHOWNERSTOURNEYCOUGH* The Dome must be a ghost town by now.

And the Challenge group uses only Big XII? Meh.

  6. Just when we thought the NFL could finally be a Favre-free zone: Link

All that said, Favre > Curtis "Wait, How Do You Throw This Thing?" Painter or Dan "Eeeek! Let Me Take a Safety So the Bad Men Will Stop Chasing Me!" Orlovsky. And this is coming from a Colts fan who's tremendously sick of Favre.

  7. Wondered what happened ... what time would you guys be on now anyway ? I know ya'll moved.

    Got sigs turned off? :shifty:

We're getting the fall schedule this coming week. For one last week, we're on at 8 AM CT this Wednesday. When it changes, it'll be on Facebook (or in my sig here :shifty: )

What station are you on, JStarr? Maybe I can find your show on my iPod.

If your iPod has Safari, you can try wmts.org and maybe (MAYBE) stream from there.

And both of those pics are great. Loved ESPNU running "The U" and "Pony Excess" back to back this afternoon. Finally got to see both all the way through, and the SMU deal sheds even more light on why Miami won't get that kind of penalty.

  8. Anyone listening to any good college football podcasts?

I like your predictions, HTTK, and found myself agreeing with you quite a bit. I'm curious to see if you do a Notre Dame prediction. I have us finishing 10-3. 9-3 in the regular season, with a win over Maryland (in a rematch) in the Champs Sports Bowl (since they can take us in place of a Big East team once in the next three years). I'm fairly certain we'll either lose to Michigan in the Big House in their first ever night game OR against Michigan State at home. I don't expect us to drop both, though. I have the last game at Stanford marked as a loss too. And I figure we'll drop one to Navy or Air Force or possibly Maryland in the middle of the year.

I know 'lol notre dame' is your motto, but I'm curious to get an honest and realistic observation from you.

Yeah, I'm wrapping up Part 2 with all the other conferences and then I'll do the Independents together.

Ivan Maisel does one on ESPN that's all right if you can stand Beano Cook. Forde is on it sometimes wich is great.

Also, these guys are pretty good at times: CFB Guys

Oh and Starr and those 4Q guys do some decent CFB work from time to time (Y)

We try. Now if only our ghetto-ass station could get our recording equipment fixed so we could podcast again. It's going on three months now.

  9. Like I said to a guy on the 4Q FB page last night, TV bans might be even worse for a school than the death penalty at this point. Still having to spend the money to support a team, and not getting that expenditure offset by TV revenues? Harsh. It's also hard to sell a program to a recruit when he knows he's a) walking into a zone where the NCAA will be watching everything; and 2) will never, ever be on TV during his entire career.

Take them down to about 50 scholarships instead of 85, ban them from TV for the entire career of their next recruiting class...shit, that infamous Sports Illustrated cover may just come true.

  10. This ain't baseball here. There isn't some random utility slot to stick a second TE in.

There are only so many TEs in the league who should even be on a Fantasy team. I'll take my chances with one of these two on my bench and one more team being weak at the position in the league. It's not like there were WRs out there right now who are a far bigger upgrade over what will be available in a round or two.

Hope you enjoy having your best producers stuck on the bench and an entire league unwilling to trade with you, especially since the TE position is deeper than it's ever been. There are probably 20 guys draftable this year.

If you're gonna hoard something, grow a pair and collect QB's. Now there's some position scarcity.

  11. Also coming out that Miami has already been under investigation for around 5 months ....... This is going to be really ugly.

Yahoo Sports says it spent 11 months and roughly 100 hours interviewing Shapiro and auditing thousands of pages of financial records and business records.

    He's named names too.

And the names are ridiculous. Andre Johnson, Vince Wilfork, Willis McGahee, Jon Beason, Jon Vilma...nearly everyone who's anyone in Miami football the last decade.

A few of the guys are talking, but it's mostly the ones that have washed out of pro ball. That's going to be the nugget of Miami's defense, that it's disgruntled guys who are looking to make some bank off of being a part of this story. They'll come up with some alibi for the pics with guys like Wilfork, and there won't be anything approaching the death penalty, even though there richly should be. The TV partners like being able to put the U on when they're decent, and they won't be happy if that ratings source gets axed.

  12. an excerpt from ESPN

While the Titans publicly stated they are willing to make Johnson the highest-paid running back in the NFL, those close to Johnson believe he should be paid as one of the top playmakers in the league -- not just for running backs, sources familiar with the situation told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Johnson said last year that he wanted a new deal with $30 million in guaranteed money. The Titans revised his contract by boosting his 2010 salary by $1.5 million to $2.05 million to convince the running back to report.

Let him sit out. No way you make a running back, with all the abuse they take in a game, the highest paid player. "Sure..here's your 30 million...oh you broke your leg and are out for the season?"

Let him sit out as long as he wants. When those paychecks don't come in, he'll come crawling back and accept whatever you offer

Quarterbacks break legs, too. (See: Brady, Tom.)

Co-sign on damshow's point. If a QB holds out, it's a greedy bitch move because as the "face of the franchise," he can make up whatever he's missing out on via endorsements as long as he's got a spoonful of charisma and has never killed animals for sport. Plus, as a "leader," he's letting the entire team twist in the wind while he bitches about how many zeros are on his check.

For a RB, however, you take that aforementioned abuse AND you're easily interchangeable. Get what you can while you can, before the pounding adds up. It's up to the GM's and owners to decide just how irreplaceable they think a RB is, so it's a delicate game. In the Titans' case, they're 3-13 without CJ, so it's up to them on how much leverage they think they have.
