  1. Depends on how you classify good. You're thoughts on a good artist may completely differ on someone else's, just like your views on a wrestling match may be completely different to someone elses. That's what annoys me about these threads - art is subjective. You can't say definitively she's not good. She certainly has an appeal, there's no denying that.

  2. I certainly see what you mean, but hypocrisy would really mean that if I, as a Christian, spoke out against murder and then went and attacked a group of Jews on some kind of "Holy Crusade".

This guy seems to have come to a new decision, changed his mind which we are surely allowed to do as humans, whether it's through personal changing minds or "Divine Intervention". If he continued to sing songs or talk about how religion and 'blind faith' are bad, then he would be a hypocrite.

I used to hate brocolli and told people that it was a disgusting vegetable.

Then one day I tried it again and quite liked it.

I like brocolli now and now say that it is nice.

Does that make me a hypocrite with regards to brocolli even though people might say "I thought you hate brocolli". I haven't said anything against it since I decided I liked it.

Changing your mind is not hypocrisy. Continuing along your old path of reasoning or thought when you outwardly say you've changed IS hypocrisy.

This sums up my feelings on faith perfectly.

  3. Nice to see ESPN with the long slate of games, however didn't there used to be more? Oh well, I actually have to go to class tomorrow, and the Twins start at 4 when there is (I believe) only one game on ESPN. I kind of wish the Brewers/Pirates was on, as evidently Sheets and Perez are starting. I guess I can understand why ESPN wouldn't carry the game...

Unfortunately Perez got smacked around a bit after a good first innings. He's great fun to watch. Sheets was good. My beloved Bucs got done 9 to 2 or something. :(

  4. Because when a guy like Maynard sings very intelligent songs about how religion is bullshit and he speaks very intelligently about the same thing, but then goes and "finds Jesus" it's very depressing to people like myself who agree that religion is bullshit. So yes I would lose respect for him because he became a Christian just like I would lose respect for any of my friends who suddenly become jesus-freaks.  Would I hate them?  No.  Would I refuse to see them ever again?  No.  Just like if this is true and Maynard continues to play with Tool or APC, I probably won't stop listening.

I didn't really need the proof, but you are just as intelligent as I thought you were. Tool stood for something. They stood for the abstract, and still do. The idea that maybe the preconcieved notions of the worlds *aren't* the "correct" way to think...or even that there is a correct way to think. I'm not saying Maynard is a bad person if he becomes a devout Christian...but I will view his work with a much more cynical eye.

I can't believe you think that's intelligent. I like Tool, but it's not as if people can't change. To want him to stay the way you like him in spite of him being happy is just selfish.

  5. This is depressing news. I first heard about Mitch about a year ago and saw him on Conan a few times before I bit the bullet and found his albums. Quickly became my favourite comedian bar none. I listen to Mitch All Together at least once a week, still. Very very sad news.

My favourite would definately be the Peter Frampton "stay the hell away from me Frampton, I got nothin' to say to you!" joke. Always gets me.

    RIP.

  6. Batman Vengence

Ugh, this game drives me insane. I'm just so terrible at it.

And yeah, I hesitated at first but picked up a Gamecube cheap at a sale and haven't looked back. Very nice little system.

  7. I know a lot of people hate "middle of the road music", but I love a bit of adult contemporary. David Gray, Damien Rice, Norah Jones, Jeff Buckley, Elliott Smith.....all does it for me.

All five are favourites of mine. Especially Damien Rice. O is amazing amazing amazing. You should check out Sarah Blasko if you get a chance. A little poppier than those mentioned but still very contemporary. I love good female vocalists.

  8. I hold him in high regard as well. He's gotten no press here, but a record store had his album playing in the background once while I was having a look around. I asked them who it was, and his name stuck in the back of my head. I heard 'This Year's Love' in The Girl Next Door, then went out and bought the album. And the rest, they say, is history.

I'd say he's my style, though. I'm a big softy.

  9. You don't put things into context though. The original is not only a great song (my opinon) but summed up the feelings of a generation and whole movement of people that was really centered in music. You could make an argument that that movement died with Lennon. I think it's one of his most important works. That's why it gets rated so highly. Not because it's his best song.

The APC one I understand what they were trying to do with it, but they just butchered it. Once again all opinion, but to take the song and make it an anti-anthem, almost... I can't stand it. I am very critical to alot of the Beatles covers (as well as obviously the covers done of their solo work) and I really haven't found one I was particularly fussed with, but this one in particular I cannot stand.

  10. You're probably right. I tend to think of it as he's been hurt before but he retains hope. The threatening "This year's love had better last" kinda sticks with your theory though, lol. Beautiful melody, though. Kinda makes the lyrics creep up on you without realising.

Another song would be James Taylor - Something In The Way She Moves. He has a ton of great love songs, actually.

  11. Someone's mentioning of Richard Cheese made my day. That guy is hilarious.

    Anyway...

    Johnny Cash - Hurt

The Beatles - Roll Over Beethoven

    The Beatles - Honey Don't

The Beatles - Everybody's Trying To Be My Baby

Shannon Noll - What About Me

Stevie Ray Vaughan - Voodoo Chile

    Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah

The APC cover of Imagine disgusts me.

  12. The number one love song of all time as far as I'm concerned is Paul McCartney - Maybe I'm Amazed. Can bring tears to my eyes.

    Other gooduns:

    Beatles - Something

    Beatles - Baby, It's You

Beatles - Here, There And Everywhere

    Wings - Hold Me Tight

    Wings - My Love

    Wings - No Words

    John Lennon - Woman

David Gray - This Year's Love

    The Platters - Earth Angel

Lazyboy - It's All About Love

    The Jackson 5 - I'll Be There

    Elton John - Your Song

Bryan Adams - Everything I Do

    Eric Clapton - Wonderful Tonight

Probably not in the context you're thinking but John Lennon - Beautiful Boy is one of the most beautiful love songs you'll ever hear.

Hope that gives you some ideas!
