Well as if to put an exclamation point on this day from hell, Rush and Brown crash on their second run and fall out of contention. They were third after their first run. Luckily both were able to get up on their own strength.

This is the bottom point. I'm confident of this.

In fairness, Charles was a definite medal possibility but not a sure thing. And Francois was nothing approaching a favourite. They both skated good finals, the pace was just pushed past what they could keep up with. The 500 is Charles' specialty.

Does "the guy who beat Kimbo Slice" really mean anything anymore? Basically at this point he's 1-1 in the UFC, 2-2 in fights that had a particularly large audience. I'd think that if Kimbo really still has an audience it's the same kind of audience that Tank Abbott had: people who liked the way he fought, not necessarily his ability to actually win fights.

Is there a difference between Olympic curling and international curling then? Honestly, the first 6 shots of the 10th end for Bernard's rink were takeout shots on stones between the hog and t-lines.

Edit: Now that I think of it, I believe the first two Canadian stones were just perfectly waited shots that moved the Danish stones out of the way but kept them in play. Which really just drives home how sensational Cori Bartel was in that extra end.

If there is such a rule it mustn't apply to the Olympics. Canada's first 6 shots of the 11th end were takeouts on guards.

Wouldn't make a difference if they wasted a rock, because the rink with the hammer could do the same. The Canadians made the right play in the 10th. Thank goodness for that, because if they'd actually find a way to lose that given all the major mistakes the Danes made there would be calls for Jennifer Jones to skip for this team in a Cheryl Bernard mask.

Jon Montgomery puts down 2 absolutely BLISTERING times today to win gold in men's skeleton!

She was distraught. They interviewed her after the race and she couldn't hold back the tears. She said she felt she'd let down her country and her family. It's a shame, because it really all came down to one bad straightaway.

By the way, all Canadians ought to keep an eye on the CTV Olympics website for a video essay by Stephen Brunt. It aired tonight and completely captured the national pride that's bubbling over in this country right now. As I tweeted earlier, Stephen Brunt didn't just knock this one out of the park, it was a Mark McGwire moonshot.

Here I was thinking Mellissa Hollingsworth was one of our safest medal bets. Jon Montgomery now has two runs to prevent the disaster day for Canada.

The people questioning the scoring aren't saying it was fixed, they're saying the system is broken. Their argument is that Lysacek won skating a program with less difficulty over Plushenko who skated a mistake free program with much greater difficulty. This is not unsound logic. And how exactly does it matter if Plushenko's won before? These aren't elementary school graduation awards, you're allowed to win twice.

Marianne St Gelais takes home Canada's 6th medal, a silver!

Shani Davis dominates in the mens 1500m. Unfortunately medal favorite Denny Morison of Canada came up flat, ending up 13th. Fortunately, Jessica Gregg and Marianne St Gelais both qualified for the final 4 in womens 500m, guaranteeing Canada 1 medal and with a good chance of 2 (Italian Arianna Fontana had the worst qualifying time in the semi's).

It was a mistake on our part. We thought we were getting those Georgians back for stealing the 1996 Olympics from us. Guess we got the wrong Georgia.

Australian sports officials are suggesting today that judges inflated Alexandre Bilodeau's scores to give the gold to the host country. Never mind the fact that Bilodeau got down the mountain in half a second less time, got better air and took on jumps with a higher degree of difficulty.

Fortunately we have an excellent healthcare system and a whambulance was immediately dispatched.

The drought is over! After two Olympics and change of the dubious distinction of being the only host nation to never win a Gold medal on home soil, Alexandre Bilodeau skiied the run of his life to capture the gold in Men's freestyle moguls. What an amazing day in the history of Canadian sport.

Canada's long track speed skating team gets off to a great start with Kristina Groves, world ranked #4 in womens 3500m, managed to eke out a bronze and really just missed silver. Cindy Klassen's run was a great moment. She failed to break the top 10, but it was wonderful to see the reception she got after all she's been through in the past 4 years. A true Canadian Olympic hero.

So long as Cheryl Bernard didn't fluke into the Olympics because Jennifer Jones had a bad qualifying.

Men's and Women's curling and hockey. If we don't take a gold in at least one of those, there really is a curse.

Jenn Heil ski's a sensational run, only to be edged out by an even more sensational run by Hannah Kearney. Canada settles for silver with one of our biggest gold medal favourites, but you have to give it to her: she didn't lose it; her opponent won it. We'll wait another day for Gold I guess.

Chuck's overnight numbers - 2.5 in adults 18-49, 6.94 million viewers. So the demo's leveled off well above NBC average, and the viewers were up a tick over 4%. This is terrific news. Next big challenge: the return after being off the air for two weeks when the Olympics come.
