  2. Aug 10, 2004 - Tim Brown has 99 career touchdown receptions. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers would love to see him get to 100. And beyond.

The third-leading pass-catcher in league history is now a Buccaneer, after Brown signed with Tampa Bay on Tuesday, six days after being released by the only NFL team for which he has ever played, the Oakland Raiders. The Bucs will introduce the future Hall-of-Famer at 4:15 p.m. ET on Tuesday afternoon; he’ll be in practice at the team’s training camp at Disney’s Wide World of Sports complex by Wednesday morning.

To make room for Brown on the roster, the team released WR James Williams. Williams had signed with the Buccaneers on August 4, five days into camp.

Not only is Brown on the verge of 100 touchdowns, he’s just 31 catches behind Cris Carter for the second spot on the league’s all-time reception list. Brown already owns the second spot in yardage and is fourth all-time in touchdowns. All told, in 16 seasons, he has caught 1,070 passes for 14,834 yards and those 99 scores. He has 43 100-yard games, led the Raiders in receiving 11 times and has been voted into nine Pro Bowls.

Of course, while Jon Gruden’s Buccaneers are respectful of Brown’s place in NFL history, they are most concerned with what the veteran receiver can provide for them this year.

"I don’t want to make any predictions, any bold statements, but this guy brings a tremendous amount of class," said Gruden. "He gives us credibility and adds, I think, to a group of receivers that has a chance to be a highlight, a strength of our football team."

Added Brown: "I'm not coming here just to be a guy. I'm coming here to be the Tim Brown I used to be. I think I have a lot left in the proverbial tank."

Brown’s arrival in Tampa is, of course, a reunion for the receiver, Gruden and the Buccaneers’ general manager, Bruce Allen. Gruden was Oakland’s head coach from 1998-2001 and Allen held a similar position with the Raiders from 1995-2003. During Gruden’s four years at the Raiders’ helm, Brown averaged 84 receptions for 1,162 yards and nine touchdowns per season.

"I’m really excited to be reunited with a class act and a great football player," said Gruden. "His accomplishments are well-documented – 16 years, second in NFL history in receiving, and he’s not done yet."

Since an injury cost him all but one game in 1989, Brown (6-0, 195) has also been remarkably durable. Over the last 14 seasons, he has missed only one of a possible 224 games, none since 1993. He has also started all but one game for the Raiders over the last 11 years.

Brown has been as consistent a producer as they come. From 1993-2001, he recorded nine consecutive 1,000-yard seasons, and he hasn’t caught fewer than 50 balls in a campaign since 1992, when he had 49. Last year’s marks of 52 receptions for 567 yards and two touchdowns were his lowest since ’92, but they still would have ranked third among all Buccaneers in 2003 had he joined the team a year earlier. He was the second-leading receiver for an Oakland offense that sunk to 25th in the NFL in 2003. In 2002, the Raiders had the league’s top-ranked offense and Brown contributed 81 receptions for 930 yards.

Brown was the sixth overall pick in the draft when the Raiders tabbed him out of Notre Dame in 1988. He had 43 catches for 725 yards and five touchdowns as a rookie. After missing all of 1989 and playing a complimentary role the next three seasons, Brown exploded in 1993 with 80 catches for 1,180 yards and seven touchdowns. That started a 10-year span in which he would average eight touchdowns a year.

Brown is also an accomplished punt returner. Over the years he has averaged 10.2 yards per return on 150 runbacks and scored three touchdowns. As recently as 2001 he averaged 18.5 yards per on 21 returns.

The 38-year-old Brown hails from Dallas, Texas. At Notre Dame, he won the Heisman Trophy in 1987 as a senior. He will be the third Heisman Trophy winner to play for the Buccaneers, following Steve Spurrier (won the award in 1966) and Vinny Testaverde (1996).

    Thoughts/Opinions???

  3. Umm...yeah, you apparently think all wide out should be going for the long ball.

Umm.. No. I think Michael Clayton is perfect for the Bucks because Hes perfect for the Type of Passing game the Bucks play.. Which is short one.. But If they wanna go long then Clayton can do that.. He proved that many of times at LSU.

Keyshawn is a possession reciever, he goes across the middle and makes tough catches and gets first downs. When he's used like that, he's great.

Never said he wasn't. But I did say that his attitude off the field overshadows his play.. Which I believe Whole Heardedly is true

Michael Clayton is NOT better than Keyshawn, thats just asinine, maybe someday he will be but he certainly isn't without playing a down.

Alright.. Ill retract my statement.. Michael Clayton has the potential to be a better reciever then Keyshawn and has the potential to be more useful to the Bucks. But he still has 100 more times the class Keyshawn ever had..

  4. Please explain how Tampa Bay will be better than, not only Atlanta, but also Carolina, after losing Sapp, Lynch and Keyshawn, and gaining Joey Galloway

Keyshawn was nothing but a waste of money. Sure hes a good reciever but his attitude made him more of a nuisance then anything else. The Bucks will do way better without wasting a large amount of thier Money on him. Not only is Michael Clayton the better reciever. But had 100 times more class Keyshawn ever had.

Warren Sapp has been out of his prime for a good time now.. Worth way less then he gets payed.. The Raiders are gonna highly regret signing him.

Lynch will not be missed that much on the field.. Due to the fact that Phillips is proving to be highly capable of filling that void. But his off field presence will be greatly missed

    Joey Galloway.. Meh.. We'll see

With Alstott returning, The Pick up of Clayton and Various other signings, and most importantly an improved offensive line The Bucs will be a Contender this year.. And No doubt make the Play offs.

  5. Like many other people, I think both are excellent actors. However, Robert Deniro is my all-time favorite actor, simply because he has been the star or co-star of so many of my favorite movies. I adore the Travis Bickle character (Taxi Driver), probably my favorite movie character of all time. One of his earlier films "Mean Streets" that Harvey Keitel also starred in is another great film. Mean Streets is a good film to see Deniro in the early stages of his acting career. Throw in other movies such as Deer Hunter (which has another great actor in Christopher Walken, and the late John Cazale who co-starred with Pacino in Dog Day Afternoon), Raging Bull (based on the life of Boxer Jake La Motta, co-starring Joe Pesci), Casino, and Goodfellas (another two with Joe Pesci and a score of other great actors). I was particulary impressed with the way Deniro portrayed Jake La Motta in Raging Bull. After reading the book Raging Bull, you had to really commend Deniro for playing Jake La Motta's character almost to perfection.

I totally agree with you on the Raging Bull part.. Although, Im pretty damned suprised your the first personto mention Deniro's performance in this movie. His performance was nothing but simply amazing

  6. Hey, don't be knocking the first Mortal Kombat movie. The first one was great! (Its easily the best movie based on a video game.)

Lets look at reasons why the second one sucked (although, I do agree the directing was awful, but its not the only thing to blame):

    1. They killed off Johnny Cage, who was my favorite character in the first movie. Linden Ashby was so damn bad-ass as Cage in the first movie. (Good news is, he's coming back as Johnny Cage somehow for the third sequel...if the damn thing actually gets made, that is)

    2. The guy who replaced Christopher Lambert as Raiden sucked ass. Mainly because he was completely wrong for the part.

    3. Most of the characters from the newer MK games either didn't appear at all, or had what amounted to `blink and you'll miss it' cameos.

    4. Too much goddamn focus on Liu Kang. Robin Shou is a passable actor and a good martial artist, but lets face it: Jax, Johnny Cage, the new Sub Zero, or even  Sonya Blade would have all been better choices for the focus of the sequel.

    5. The final battle was complete garbage.

    6. Not enough special effects, since it had a lower budget than the first. MK NEEDS special effects.

I hope they add some of the new characters from Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance, particularly the blind guy with the telekinetic powers and the winged vampire woman, to the third movie, or put them in a fourth if they make one.

Not To mention the Story line succed.. And It to make if worse they didn't follow MK storylines at all.. Raiden and Shao Kahn Brothers?? Shao Kahn Shinnoks Son?? All that gets from me is one big WTF.. And Thirdly.. Shao Kahn without his mask is just lame..

  7. I hate to say this, but I also have to say Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in The Hood. I laughed my ass off at it, but now that I've gotten older I've realized that it was quite a stupid ass movie. Anybody agree?

All I have to say about that is..

    Break ya'self Foo

And as for Worst Movie Ever..

Ill have to go with the Super Mario Brothers movie.. Absolute shit

  8. Even though she looks pretty damned good with her black hair..

She should have definitely just stuck with her acting job. Because Her singing and Show has made her not even hot to me anymore.. So yeh Id like to take a sledge hammer to her face.. And then Id like to slap every person who buys her damned cd..
