ZURICH - Dany Heatley was seriously injured midway through a game between Heatley's SC Bern and Geneva-Servette in the Swiss league on Saturday night.

Heatley was struck in the eye by a shot from teammate Daniel Briere and was immediately sent to the hospital in Bern where he was diagnosed with severe swelling and inner bleeding. According to reports, Heatley could not see out of the injured eye when he was admitted to hospital.

Doctors drained the eye to relieve the blood pressure. On Sunday morning, there was no confirmation whether the accident had damaged any sight nerves.

Swiss newspaper Tages-Anzeiger wrote that Heatley, in a worst case scenario, could lose sight in the injured eye, but that was not confirmed by any other media nor by hospital sources.

According to the SC Bern official website, Heatley also suffered a fractured orbital-bone below the eye, an injury which requires surgery.

The club said Heatley will remain in hospital for at least a week and could resume skating in six weeks.

Yes, Heatly was driving the car Dan Snyder was riding in the night that Snyder suffered his mortal injuries.

Heatly ended up missing 7 months or so rehabbing his leg, back, and facial injuries.

Here's to hoping he's well enough to play again.

Anyone have any word on Yzerman's eye? Last I heard he was having surgery on it.

Yzerman was hoping to be ready for the World Cup, thus indicating to me that his surgery was successful but he needed more rehab time.
