Boomer Wells signs with Boston. You just knew that had to happen.....I mean is there a better fit for Boomer anywhere then this bunch? Yankees are appearantly close to signing Pavano (and praying hard that he too does not fall victim to Weaver Syndrome or it's cousin the Vazquezeritis). Officials in the Cardinals organization are supposedly sure that Renteria is headed to Boston although the Angels will make him an offer too if Pavano slips out of their hands.

Carl Pavano signs with the Yankees for a four-year deal worth $39 Million. (MLB.com)

Dang... Pavano to Yanks, Wells to Sox. Let the spending spree begin again!

Boston still has enough money to still keep Pedro. While Derek Lowe will probably go somewhere else. (Detroit maybe) Renteria might be going to Boston and in exchange Orlando Cabrera could be going to St Louis.

What about the BLUUE Jays?

Report: Hudson dealt to Dodgers

A's would get top prospects Jackson and Perez

ANAHEIM -- The rumored trade of Oakland A's ace Tim Hudson to the Los Angeles Dodgers was characterized as nearly complete by a Bay Area newspaper early Sunday morning.

But neither team confirmed the deal to MLB.com.

The Contra Costa Times reported that Hudson's agent Paul Cohen "confirmed" the trade, which would send the 29-year-old righty to the Dodgers in exchange for right-handed pitcher Edwin Jackson and minor-league infielder Antonio Perez.

The newspaper quoted Cohen as saying he had second-hand knowledge of the deal.

"I spoke with an executive from another team, and that's what I've heard," agent Paul Cohen told the Times. "Until I hear from the principles, that's where we stand."

In the Times report, A's spokesman Jim Young said he was not aware a deal had been made and Oakland general manager Billy Beane was not available for comment.

Beane told MLB.com on Saturday night that he was closer to a trade than he had been on Friday, but declined to get into specifics. "Today was every bit as productive as yesterday," he said.

Beane also discounted some of the rumors which have swirled around Oakland's Big Three starters -- Hudson, Mark Mulder and Barry Zito -- this offseason. "When you see some of this, a lot of it's wrong," he said.

Hudson is 92-39 with a 3.30 ERA in his six seasons with the A's. He will be paid $6 million next season, the last of a four-year deal. Hudson is seeking a contract extension before the start of the season and is expected to command a four-year contract worth about $40 million.

Earlier this month, Hudson and his agent told the A's he would not return to Oakland if the team did not sign him to an extension before March 1.

Dodgers general manager Paul DePodesta, a former assistant to Beane, has been trying to bolster a pitching staff which currently consists of Brad Penny, Kazuhisa Ishii and Jeff Weaver. Penny was hurt the final two months of the season and Ishii was left off the Dodgers' postseason roster after struggling with consistency.

Odalis Perez was offered arbitration, but DePodesta said he is confident Perez will accept a multiyear offer elsewhere.

Though he struggled with injuries at Triple-A last season, Jackson, 21, is a highly coveted, young fireballer. He's 4-2 in 12 appearances in the Majors.

The Dodgers finally have a #1 starter! Oh glorious day. Edwin Jackson hasn't proved that he could pitch on the Major League level yet and he's had several chances. Antonio Perez is a decent prospect but nothing too great. Now the thing with Hudson is gonna be trying to get him to sign a deal, like the Dodgers tried with Finley last year but couldn't get done.

Perez is an excellent prospect and is expected to play 2B right out of spring training for the A's. The Dodgers have the money and resources to sign Hudson to an extension. Plus, the Dodgers G.M knows Hudson from his days in Oakland.

Bucs traded Arthur Rhodes to Cleveland for Matt Lawnton, who'll play RF and leadoff. There are cash considerations. Excellent. I am pleased with the Kendall trade now. Basically got a good RF with power and speed which allows Mackowiak to go back to his super sub role, and Redman who'll be a solid starter behind Perez and Wells and in front of Fogg. Now we just have to get a better catcher than Cota and I think we can make a good run at a winning season!
