Match Five – Main Event – World Heavyweight Championship Match – World Heavyweight Champion “The Crippler” Chris Benoit vs. WWE Intercontinental Champion “The Legend Killer” Randy Orton

“Evolution!”

“Line in the Sand” by Motorhead begins to play and the crowd begins to boo as Randy Orton, the reigning WWE Intercontinental Champion, comes walking out behind the curtain. Orton stands on the stage and does his very cocky pose with his arms spread wide apart as the gold pyrotechnics display comes done from the ceiling. Orton spins around on the stage with his arms spread wide apart, smirking. Orton walks down the stage and pulls himself up onto the ring apron and gets into the ring. Orton then goes directly to the farthest corner which is near Lillian Garcia, facing the camera, and does his pose again. Orton gets down and unstraps the belt from around his waist and hands it over to senior official Earl Hebner. The song fades out and the crowd pops as soon as “Whatever” by Our Lady Peace begins to play. Chris Benoit, the World Heavyweight Champion, comes out onto the stage and takes off the belt from around his waist and raising it above his head with both hands. Benoit walks to his left and raises the belt with his right hand and pound his chest with his left fist. Benoit walks back across the center and stands directly behind Callis and Ross as he raises the belt and pounds his chest as the crowd stands and shows their appreciation for The Rabid Wolverine. Benoit walks back to the center, placing the belt over his shoulder, and walks down the aisle. Benoit gets into the ring and goes right towards Randy Orton and Orton quickly moves aside as Benoit stares him down. Benoit climbs the ropes and raises the belt to the crowd. Benoit gets down, takes a look at Orton, and walks to the corner next to it, where Earl Hebner is standing. He raises the belt again and then walks directly across from that corner and Orton moves back to his own corner as Benoit raises the belt again. Benoit goes to the last corner, the corner near the entrance way where the stairs are, and raises the belt to the fans. Benoit gets down and gives the belt over to Earl Hebner who raises the belt in the air and then hands it over to the time keeper and calls for the bell to ring.

Chris Benoit and Randy Orton lock up in the center of the ring and Orton quickly applies a headlock on Benoit. Benoit tries to push Orton right off of him, but Orton runs with Benoit and quickly drops down to one knee, bringing Benoit to a halt and has Benoit lying flat out on the mat as he has him in a headlock. Benoit begins to punch Orton in the ribs but Orton won’t let the headlock go, but Benoit does get enough strength to lift himself up and Orton stands up with him. Benoit actually lifts up Orton for a back body drop, but Orton flips out of it and forearms Benoit right in the neck. Benoit falls to the mat and Orton quickly leaps onto the mat and grabs another headlock while Benoit is down. Benoit rolls onto his back, and Orton is now lying on top of Benoit’s chest, but he still has the headlock locked in. Benoit, though, is able to shift his weight to the side and gets Orton in a pinning position. One … Two … kickout by Orton.

Orton, embarrassed that he allowed himself to get in such a position for a pin, breaks the headlock and quickly stomps on Benoit before he can even begin to move. Orton picks up Benoit and whips him into the ropes. Orton charges at Benoit and clotheslines him over the top rope. Orton gets out of the ring and jumps to the mat where he picks up Benoit. Orton picks him up in a press slam position and drops him face first across the steel ring steps. Referee Earl Hebner tells Orton to get into the ring, but Orton won’t listen. He picks up Benoit and whips him right into the ring post and Benoit swings around it and lands on the other side of the ring. Orton follows after him and picks up Benoit and runs with him and slams him shoulder first into the steel ring steps and Benoit flips right over them, and clutches at his left shoulder as he lays near the ramp way.

Orton rolls into the ring and then rolls out of the ring on the other side near Benoit to break Hebner’s count. Orton picks up Benoit and suplexes him right on top of the ramp way. Orton immediately stands up and smiles arrogantly before doing his cocky pose. Orton now rolls into the ring and stands up. Hebner tells him to stand back and then begins to count Benoit out. One … Two … Three … Four … Five … and Orton quickly remembers that he cannot win the belt on a count out and quickly shoves Hebner out of the way and slides out of the ring. Orton grabs Benoit and rolls him into the ring just at nine and gets in himself before being counted out. Orton rolls Benoit onto his back and makes the cover. One … Two … kickout by Benoit.

Randy Orton cannot believe it. He argues with the senior official and tells him that he should be World Heavyweight Champion at this point, but Hebner obviously doesn’t agree. Orton tosses him aside and pulls Benoit up by his head, but Benoit quickly rolls Orton up in a small package. One … Two … kickout by Orton. Orton is again embarrassed that Benoit almost scored a pin over him by rolling him up, quickly stands up and sits on the chest of Benoit and begins pounding away at the forehead of Chris Benoit. Orton then goes behind Benoit and locks in a rear chin lock on the champ. The show cuts out to a commercial break.

[Commercial.]

As we return from the break, we are shown a double feature. In the live section we see Orton and Benoit lying on the mat with Orton locking Benoit in a body scissors. But in the replay section we see that Benoit fought out of the chin lock and was able to whip Orton into the ropes and Benoit tossed Orton over the top rope, but Orton held onto the ropes. Benoit went to chop him but Orton pulled Benoit down by the neck across the top rope and then locked in the body scissors where we are still at in the live section. The replay screen goes away and Orton places his right hand on his right leg and claps down harder around the body of Benoit. Benoit begins to pound the mat to get the fans into the match by having them clap along. The fans are chanting for Benoit as Benoit powers out of the body scissors and stands up. Orton gets up and Benoit ducks a clothesline from him and lays in a brutal chop across the chest of Randy Orton. The crowd yells “WOOOOOO!” and Benoit chops Orton again. Orton stumbles back into the corner and Benoit repeatedly chops the chest of Orton over, and over, and over again. Benoit grabs Orton by the arm and goes to whip him into the opposite corner but Orton reverses the Irish Whip and sends Benoit running into the corner. Benoit hits back first and slams himself hard to the mat, crashing his face right off the mat. Orton runs over and makes the cover. One … Two … Th, NO! Kickout by Benoit.

Orton quickly stands up Benoit and twists him by the neck and hits a neck breaker on him. Orton makes the cover. One … Two … Th, NO! Kickout by Benoit, again. The crowd is chanting “Benoit” again. Orton picks up Benoit and grabs him by the neck and lines up with Benoit, back-to-back, and drops down, snapping Benoit’s neck and back right across his own back. Orton makes the cover. One … Two … Th, NO! Kickout by Benoit. Orton is completely pissed off and is arguing with referee Earl Hebner. He can’t, for the life of him, understand why Benoit won’t stay down. Orton grabs Benoit and pulls him up and whips him into the ropes. Orton hooks the arm of Benoit and places him on the top rope. Orton stands on the middle rope and goes to hook the arm of Benoit again but Benoit begins to headbutt Orton. He hits three headbutts in a row and Orton jumps off but quickly jumps back onto the middle ropes where Benoit stands up and headbutts Orton some more. Orton falls to the mat but quickly gets up and punches Benoit in the stomach and then climbs to the middle rope and slaps Benoit right across the face and hooks the arm. Orton hits Benoit with a superplex and then floats over for the cover. One … Two … Thr, NO! Kickout by Benoit and the fans are cheering for Benoit.

Randy cannot believe that Orton just continues to kick out. He picks up Benoit and slaps him across the chest and backs him against the ropes. He whips him off the ropes and Benoit runs the ropes. He ducks under a clothesline from Orton and stops himself and turns right around and grabs a waist lock on Orton. He tries to lift him up but Orton blocks it with his foot. Benoit begins to pound away at the back of Orton and tries to lift him again. Orton blocks it. Benoit pounds away with his forearm again and finally lifts Orton up and hits a German Suplex! But Benoit doesn’t have enough strength to hit any rolling German’s as he and Orton are down and out. “Benoit” chants ring out as they clap along to get Benoit back into the match. One … Two … Three … Four … Orton begins to move first, Five … Six … Orton is up at Seven … and just before Hebner can make Eight Benoit stands up. Orton lunges for him, hooks him by the head and tries for the RKO but Benoit pushes Orton right into the ropes. Orton stumbles backwards out of the ropes and Benoit slams a forearm right into the spin of the Legend Killer. Benoit hooks him by the waist and lifts him up, a second German Suplex. The crowd is going crazy as Benoit rolls along and stands up, lifting Orton up with him and delievers a third German Suplex, the second in a row. Benoit rolls around again and stands up, lifting Orton up and he hits a fourth German Suplex, the third in a row. Benoit drags his right thumb across his throat and exits the ring and begins to climb the ropes. He dives off of the top rope and connects with the diving headbutt. Benoit makes the cover. One … Two … Thr, NO! Kickout by Randy Orton. The crowd boos as Orton kicks out.

Benoit stands up and pulls Orton with him and tries to drag him down by his left arm for the Crippler Crossface but Orton quickly dives for the ropes and hangs on for all his life. Benoit is forced off of Orton by Earl Hebner. Benoit dives at Orton, trying to force him off of the ropes but Hebner warns Benoit to remain away from the ropes or he will be disqualified. Benoit backs off and Hebner tells Orton to let the ropes go now. Orton does and goes to grab Benoit but Benoit shoots for the legs and takes Orton down to the mat. Benoit steps in between the two legs and tries for the Sharpshooter but Orton fights it. He tries to reach for the ropes but Benoit steps out of the two legs and pulls Orton away from the ropes and steps through. He cannot place his foot on the mat as Orton has both his hands firmly underneath Benoit’s boot keeping it away from the mat to prevent the submission from being executed. But Benoit stomps down on the hands and locks in the Sharpshooter. Benoit sites down on Orton’s back and yanks back on the legs real tight and Orton is forced to tap out.

Winner and Still World Heavyweight Champion: Chris Benoit in 16:03.

The crowd stands up and claps for Chris Benoit as he made Orton tap out. Instead of Benoit’s music playing “Break Down the Walls” begins to play and Chris Jericho emerges on stage. Chris Jericho firmly etched himself as the number one contender after last weeks battle royal win. Jericho comes out on stage and begins to clap for Benoit for his hard fought win. Benoit looks at Jericho and Jericho looks back right at him. The camera focuses in at Jericho as he is clapping for him and also shows the Titantron as Benoit stands in the ring looking at Jericho as the show comes to a close.

Heat – May 23, 2004 – San Diego, California – Sports Arena

1. Sunday Night Heat kicked off with the WWE Women’s Championship Match. It was a rematch between Victoria and Molly Holly. Victoria almost became Women’s Champion following the Widow’s Peak, but Molly’s foot was under the ropes just in time for referee Todd Sinclair to notice it. Molly quickly forced Victoria to tap to the STF to retain the title.

2. Following the commercial break we saw highlights of Triple H demanding a match with Edge for Monday night, but instead got a Last Man Standing match with Edge at Bad Blood. We then saw the brutal attack by Jamie Noble to The Hurricane that left Hurricane a bloody mess and then we saw highlights of Val Venis getting beat up by Triple H and Jamie Noble until Hurricane came out, tearing off his half-torn mask and showing his bloody face (in black and white) but he ended up getting beat up by Noble and Triple H. Triple H finished off Val Venis with a Pedigree and Noble pinned Val for the victory.

3. Following the commercial break we saw more highlights, this time for the match between Shawn Michaels and Christian.

4. Then we were back to the matches as the teams of Garrison Cade and Mark Jindrak and La Resistance or Rene Dupree and Rob Conway had a match. Three weeks ago on Raw these two teams got into a brawl because La Resistance was named the team to face the debuting AMW that took place two weeks on Raw. Bischoff promised Cade and Jindrak, but Nitro ended up giving La Resistance the spot. AMW beat La Resistance two weeks and then also beat up Cade and Jindrak right after. This match lasted about five minutes when Rob Conway hit the Au Revoir, which is a front Russian Leg Sweep, to win the match over Garrison Cade.

5. After the commercial break we saw highlights for the Chris Benoit versus Randy Orton World Heavyweight Championship Match.

6. And in the main event of the evening, we saw a grudge match that was a No Disqualification match to finish off this long standing Heat feud between Tommy Dreamer and Rico Constantino. Orlando Jordan, who was normally in Tommy Dreamers corner, and Matt Morgan, Rico’s body guard, were both barred from ringside. This match lasted about fifteen minutes and saw a lot of Singapore Cane shots from Tommy and Rico to each other, bruising the skin and making huge welts on the skin as well. Rico put Dreamer through a table with Dreamer’s on Spicolli Driver but that couldn’t finish off Dreamer. Dreamer got the win with a top rope DDT through a table of his own to finish off Rico.

Nice building of the fueds here. I like Noble which means that I don't like him hanging around with Triple H. Just doesn't seem to do him any good. Some good title matches for him would be a great thing. However I must commend you for finding ways to keep Triple H away from the title.
