If you want the full, rich, loud stuff, go with the Big Band to end all Big Bands and nab some Count Basie.

Glenn/Glen Miller, despite all the crap he seems to catch, has some decent work. "In The Mood" and "Moonlight Serenade" are particularly good tracks.

You could always go in the direction of blues mixed with jazz and look for some Fats Domino. Billie Holliday and Ella Fitzgerald's work tends to move in that direction, but that's hardly something you can argue given their heritage.

There's always the option to just get your feet wet and pick up some Norah Jones. It's more of a bluegrass-folk-jazz hybrid, but it's the most contemporary and accessible stuff you can find these days.

I'm kind of partial to Charlie Parker, myself.

If you're into sort of a jazz fusion, check out Addison Groove Project or Robert Walter's 20th Congress.

Modern jazz would be some Medeski, Martin, and Wood.

Smooth jazz check out Spyro Gyra and Fourplay.

Also, Herbie Hancock does a kickass version of "Watermelon Man" and I would also recommend The Funky Meters version of "Pass the Peas" (both traditional jazz tunes).

Another jazz pianist similar to Norah Jones that would be good to check out is Jamie Cullum.

Then there are always the classic favorites: Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Chuck Mangione (if only for "Legend of the One-Eyed Sailor"), etc.
