Gilchrist To Follow American Dream?

Adam Gilchrist could be set to make the unlikely cross over from cricket to baseball.

The Australian wicketkeeper-batsman has an exceptional record for his country, and his all-action style has reportedly caught the eye of the Boston Red Sox.

Interest from the American outfit was triggered after Australian Olympic baseball coach John Deeble sent a video of Gilchrist's devastating batting performances to the club.

They were so impressed with Gilchrist's uncanny ability to effortlessly clear the boundary rope that they have made an offer to the Australian vice-captain.

Gilchrist's agent Steve Atkinson admits that the Australian has been flattered by the offer - but insists his man remains focused solely on his cricket.

"Adam has taken this (the offer) as a compliment," Atkinson told The Australian.

"Cricket remains his No. 1 priority, and the approach may not come to anything, but it is genuine. If we did anything it would have to fit in with his cricket commitments. His prime focus is on the forthcoming Ashes series.

"But it is not pub talk or someone daydreaming. It is this guy's job to identify players and he likes the look of Adam. Baseball people have been saying."

The guys on Channel 5 mentioned this during the White Sox/Twins game last night and seemed to be of the opinion that he wouldnt be succesful if he played. That said it would be interesting if this did happen.

out of curiosity.....what's the reason they gave for his potential failure?

The guy just seemed to poo poo the potential of anyone making a switch to baseball, didnt really go into specifics. He did try to save some face though by saying that switching from baseball to cricket wouldn't work either just as they were changing topic.
