Best Free Website Host?

Ok this summer vacation (just 10 days away for me) I plan on making a website. But before I go out and go for a pay site I would first like to start off with a free website host. So I was wondering what the best one(s) are? Small amout to no advertisements. Lots of space. Good amount of bandwidth.

Obviously it depends on what you're wanting to put on this website as far as bandwidth and space goes, but for a personal website the one I would suggest foremost would probably be Geocities.com. Despite the advertisements down the side of your page, it's really good for everybody. Built in code editor along with browser and ftp upload access. 35mb of space (I think?) is a fine amount of space for a personal website and I doubt you're going to generate a ton of hits to be worrying about bandwidth just yet.

I ran a couple of small e-feds on geocities before I switched to paid hosts and they were getting a couple hundred hits a day and geocities held up fine.

Second choice (quite far behind, mind) would be Brinkster.com. It used to be ad-free but alas, no longer.

That's just my opinion, I've been out of the loop a bit really as far as free hosts go. My paid host has only just ran out after 2 years.

I always use Host Ultra, it's always been good to me.

Try the free version of host department.

I use the very cheap paid version, which is quite good.

I'd offer you some space, but I'm just going to let this one run out.

Yeah hosting is so cheap nowadays just buy some. It's only a coupla quid

For $5.95 at hostdepartment, you get hosting and a domain name.
