Travis Henry Traded

July 15, 2005) -- The story about where Travis Henry might land now has shifted to a running back battle between Henry and Chris Brown.

The Titans have reached agreement in principle with the Buffalo Bills on a trade that will bring Henry back to Tennessee, where he helped the University there win its only national championship. In return, the Bills are expected to receive the Titans' third-round draft choice in the 2006 NFL draft. The trade will become official if and when Henry passes his physical with the Titans.

"I've been told that they have reached an agreement," Henry's agent, Hadley Engelhard, confirmed Saturday.

But while the Titans and Bills have reached an agreement, Engelhard also confirmed that the Titans and Henry have not reached a contract agreement. Engelhard insisted that, though he and Tennessee have talked in the past, no contract agreement is in place between Henry and the Titans. One might not even be close, though the two sides are expected to discuss a deal for the 26-year-old Henry, who has one year remaining on his current contract that is scheduled to pay him $1.25 million in base salary this coming season.

The trade unofficially ends any hopes that the Titans would re-sign free-agent running back Eddie George, but it does greatly stablize Tennessee's backfield. Last season, Brown, the incumbent starter, battled assorted injuries and played only 11 games -- the same number he played his rookie season.

During the Titans' May minicamp, Brown broke his hand and missed a portion of the team's OTAs. The Titans had concerns about Brown's durability, and now Henry gives them more than just a capable backup. It gives them a front-line back fully capable of starting and going to the Pro Bowl.

But the trade also leaves the Jaguars still searching for a running back to help complement, or even replace, Fred Taylor, who has been as injury prone as Brown. The Jaguars had been negotiating a contract extension for Henry, but they failed to strike a deal with the Bills, the more important part of the equation.

Earlier this offseason, the Seattle Seahawks called the Jaguars to see if they would be interested in running back Shaun Alexander, but Jacksonville said no.

Too bad he can't hold on to the football with two perfectly healthy arms though.

I really am not sure about the Bills next season. They still have the defence, but there offence seems to have gotten even worse. No Bledsoe and now no Henry could be bad.

The Bills will be better, it's practically impossible not to be. You got rid of a halfback that fumbled virtually every game, as well as a lead-footed QB behind a shaky OL and replace them with Crazy Legs McGahee and No Loss for Losman and you're bound to improve. Eventually the O-Line will catch up and be able to block, and when they do, hoo boy. That team's going to get real good real fast when that line learns to block.

I'm glad they finally traded him..Thats all that was ever on the news here was about how unhappy he was. They make him out to be good but all he does is fumble anyways and two years ago couldn't score a touchdown to save his life. He'll probably complain he isn't playing enough with the Titans either though.
