My first website layout from scratch...

Ok so I created my first website layout from scratch (or not using FrontPage). I'm hoping the people here can give me some pointers on what I can do (or not do) next time to make it better. You can find it here. Thoughts, comments, & suggestions please guys. I want to learn. Oh and thanks to DocHappy for the banner up top too by the way.

Everything else. Layout, HTML, everything else.

I'd change the font, just to something like Arial or Tahoma.

It needs spicing up a little.

the red on the sides is way to strong, i also dislike the size and the color of the links.

Well honestly, I didn't want the layout to be exciting. I didn't want it to take away from the content of the site which is what I was shooting for. Whats wrong with the size & color of the links? I don't understand whats wrong with them. Keep in mind the colors are the same as the promotion. I wasn't sure what else to do with it.
