Carlito's Way

Miami Vice

Recommended Posts

So I've seen this new movie "Carlito's Way: Rise to Power" promoted a lot lately. I'd never heard of it before but it looks good. I'm a huge Scarface fan and I'm told it's like that so I think I'll like it.

Anyway, my questions:

1) Carlito's Way: Rise to Power is a prequel to Carlito's way?

2) The original starred Al Pacino

3) What year was the movie made in?

4) Has anyone seen it and if so was it good?

1. Yes, I believe it is a prequel.

2. Yes, Al Pacino plays Carlito. Also in it are Sean Penn, Luis Guzman, and John Leguzamo.

3. in the mid 90s, I want to say 94?

4. I think its a very good movie. I'm a huge Pacino fan, and this one isn't quite as good as The Godfather, Serpico, or Heat, but its still very good, and Pacino is good in it as always.

The films are based on two books written by Edwin Torres. The first book is called Carlito's Way and its sequel After Hours.

Carlito's Way is based on After Hours, Carlito's Way: Rise to Power is based on the book Carlito's Way. So Rise to Power is a prequel, but the book wasn't written as a prequel, if you see what I mean.

Carlito's Way came out in 1993. Viggo Mortensen is also in it. A lot of the characters and locals from GTA: Vice City are based on Carlito's Way.

A lot of people will tell you Carlito's Way is better than Scarface, and I happen to agree.
