Help me interpret this song.

I've figured out most of the song, well at least the start. First it describes a shady motel and thne moves onto the story that's within about a young lady he's sleeping with a member of a law firm. Then it starts to fade a bit after it mentions the constable. I have bolded the story of the virgin and the constable, the part I do not understand. I do know that "The lonley hours after he had left" she was fixing her face in a compact. Is the compact a car? And what's with the crash and the "purse of a different kind"? I have an idea but I want to be sure I am right.

It's these substandard motels

A compact is a hand-held mirror thing that people use to apply make-up. Perhaps the 'collision' talked about is one of her walking into the policeman/'badge'?

I was there but I can't stand half of what people try to say on there, none of it really makes sense. "OMG this song is about me and my boyfriend wells at least i think it's bout thw way that we broke up on the third of march.." etc. Thanks anyways.
