10/9 EXPLOSION complete card released / Jado injured

The card for the precursor show to the CIRCUIT 2006 EXPLOSION tour has been set, along with the already set IWGP title match between Tanahashi and Kojima and the 'test of strength battle' between Nakamura and Giant Bernard, seven other matches have been announced.

BLACK REBORN have not been making many friends as of late and this may come back to haunt them, as their heavyweight contingent take on the combined might of IWGP Tag Team title rivals Real Wild Child, Nakanishi and Omori, who is returning to New Japan for the whole EXPLOSION tour and possibly beyond. They will be teaming with Nagata LOCK leader Yugi Nagata and Nagata's old G1 tag league winning partner, Takashi Iizuka, who is starting his twentieth anniversary tour back amongst the big boys.

The first ever foreign graduate of the New Japan dojo, Prince Devitt, is rewarded for his recent sublime form, been granted a shot at the NWA Junior Heavyweight title against recent partner, Tiger Mask, making his thord defence of the title. Recently, Tiger Mask has shown and taught Devitt some new offensive tactics in what was believed to be preparation for a joint assault on Jado and Gedo's IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team titles. Whether this is to Tiger Mask's detriment remains to be seen.

Riki Choshu appears to be carrying over a grudge from LOCK UP as he teams with Akebono to face the man who beat him on the way to the WMG Heavyweight title, Togi Makabe and his partner Shiro Koshinaka. Makabe is still listed as Togi in New Japan, so it appears his reverting to his real name is only for LOCK UP.

Nagata LOCK pupils Naofumi Yamamoto and Yujiro team together for the first time in an official New Japan ring and will be looking to start off with a victory, they have double reason to try their hardest to win, as they will be facing Yamamoto's nemesis throughout the year, Ryuoji Sai and another outsider in the G2 tournament, Taichi Ishikari, and both teams are sure to be looking for a morale boosting victory ahead of the impending tournament.

With Jado out injured (though he should be back with the main tour - see below) Gedo teams with his CTU cohorts, Liger and Minoru in six man tag action against the regular army trio of Kanemoto, Wataru and Taguchi. With the Junior wars showing no sign of abating, both teams will be looking for a convincing victory over their opponents. Kanemoto, himself, may find himself a target as the CTU trio all gun for the next IWGP Junior title shot, a cause that can only be aided to defeating the champion himself.

Milano Collection AT signals his 'attempted' entry into New Japan's Junior divison, but first he will face an 'entrance exam' against the wily veteran, El Samurai. Samurai is well noted for his upset victories when facing big name opponents, and will be looking for one here, if not to derail Milano's momentum, but to increase his own, as he has been struggling for form as of late.

Big Japan star, Daisuke Sekimoto makes his New Japan debut amongst the Young Lions, all four participants are entered into the G2 tournament so will be looking for early momentum with a victory.

Jado Injured

As mentioned earlier, CTU star and one half of the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team champions has gone down with an injury, albeit not a serious one. Jado, known for his rigorous training regime and supreme conditioning suffered a back strain whilst training at the New Japan dojo, the medical team expect him to miss one to two weeks of action, as that is why he is not on 10/9 and may miss a few of the early shows in the tour.

IWGP Heavyweight Title Signing Ceremony

The signing ceremony for the IWGP Heavyweight title match between champion Hiroshi Tanahashi and challenger Satoshi Kojima took place today at the New Japan offices, overseen by Vice-President Sugehayashi. The signing took place without incident, both men respectful of the occasion and later, both gave their thoughts on the upcoming match.

Kojima went first, explaining to the press that now he is a 100% New Japan wrestler again, he wants to re-establish the dominance he held in All Japan in New Japan, and what better way to send a clear message to the rest of the roster, than to immediately take the heavyweight championship. Kojima stated that he has already beaten Tanahashi cleanly on 9/18 on the last tour, and Tanahashi was lucky to get a time limit draw on 10/8 in the G1 Climax. Kojima said Tanahahsi knows the force of his Lariat and said Tanahashi should prepare to feel it some more, as Kojima predicted complete defeat for the champion.

Kojima said he has spoken to old friend, Nakanishi about Tanahashi, Nakanishi pointing out to Kojima weak spots he was able to exploit during their match, weaknesses Kojima will have no problem expoliting if nessecery. Kojima said that since his return to New Japan, after a disappointing G1 tournament, he has only being defeated once, against Nakamura in a tag, despite this he feels revitalised and feels his is spiritually 'at home' and ready to begin a new phase of Satoshi Kojima's history.

It was then the champions turn to give his thoughts, Tanahashi said, once again, people have given him the underdog status going into the match, Tanahashi said he does not mind this, as he proved against Nakanishi, he can more than hold his own against a stronger opponent. Tanahashi said Kojima is not as physically strong as Nakanishi, but is quicker and better conditioned.

Tanahashi said that following his V1 defence, he feels ready to take on anyone in New Japan and will meet all future challenges postively, subject to approval from the New Japan office. Tanahashi said he felt supremely confident and has never felt better in his life. Tanahashi went on to say that he had been training at high altitudes to improve his stamina and endurance, as he expects the match to be a long battle, a la Kojima versus Tenzan when Tenzan was unable to answer a ten count in the 59th minute. Tanahashi said he has taken steps to ensure this does not happen to him, as he knows Kojima has unrivalled stamina.Tanahashi then said he will re-introduce Kojima to 'New Japan fighting spirit' and he expects Kojima to be overwhelmed by this, giving Tanahashi the victory.

Tanahashi and Kojima then posed for photographs, Tanahashi holding the IWGP title, but when Kojima went to lay a hand on it, Tanahashi pushed him away, resulting in a nose to nose staredown between the two, although neither looked about to strike the other.

Nakamura and Bernard speak

The press caught up today with both Shinsuke Nakamura and Giant Bernard as they prepared for their 'test of strength battle' on 10/9 in Tokyo. Nakamura was training at the New Japan dojo whilst Bernard was sightseeing in Hoikkaido.

Nakamura spoke of this been his first true test since returning, called Bernard a 'global level superstar' comparable to Lesnar, he said Bernard has made more of a lasting impact on New Japan than Lesnar could have ever wished to hope for, winning the New Japan Cup and battling for the IWGP heavyweight title against Tanahashi. Nakamura said Bernard is a super-strong fighter but is prone to choking in the big matches, saying that Bernard should have beaten Tanahashi and be IWGP champion by now. Nakamura said that in his very first match back, he controlled both Bernard and partner Tomko with his new strikes, Nakamura said that he is stronger now than back then and has improved his striking even more. Nakamura said he has yet to unveil his new 'Grand Canyon' finishing move, as he is waiting for a special opponent to unleash it on. Nakamura said he does not fear Bernard, but he does respect him, so Bernard may be that opponent. Nakamura finished the interview by saying by saying cheekily, that if Bernard wishes, he is open to the idea of a handicap match, himself versus both Bernard and Tomko.

Bernard himself was having a short break in Hoikaido with his wife, he took time out from his sightseeing trip to speak with the journalists from the various sports papers. Bernard started by saying that he is feeling refreshed and relaxed since the last tour and more importantly, confident of victory against Nakamura. Bernard said that despite Nakamura's excurison, mentally he is still the same Nakamura that was easily beaten by Lesnar. Bernard said that despite Nakamura's confidence, he knows this and is fearful of Bernard, as he should be. Bernard continued by saying that he will use Nakamura as a stepping stone to a future IWGP title shot. Bernard also said that he feels at home in New Japan and wants to remain there for the rest of his career, Bernard said that he is looking to buy a house in Japan as he loves the country so much, also, he hopes to emulate such gaijin greats as Vader and Hansen, in being fully accepted by the Japanese fans. Bernard finished by musing that he is looking to raise a foreign army in New Japan, starting with him and Tomko, as it appears that the Japanese wrestlers appear to be forming factions left, right and centre and he does not want to be left behind.

NWA Junior Heavyweight Signing Ceremony

Back in the New Japan offices, the official signing ceremony for Tiger Mask's V3 defence of his NWA Junior Heavyweight title took place, it was a reserved affair as both Tiger Mask and Prince Devitt spoke of their mutual respect for each other.

Tiger Mask went first, saying that he has been impressed greatly by Devitt's abilities ever since he first joined the dojo, he said he had commented that Devitt had great potential and was happy to see that he was beginning to show that potential, what with his sublime recent form. Tiger said that when he and Devitt had trained together, Devitt had been an exceptional pupil and had learnt fast, though Tiger hadn't taught him everything he knew. Tiger said that after the match, he is hopeful that Devitt and himself can challenge for the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team titles held by Jado and Gedo, as Tiger would like to see all the titles back under regular army control once again.

Devitt spoke of his gratitude and respect towards Tiger Mask and the New Japan office for this wonderful opportunity. Devitt said that he knew he was up against it versus a legendary figure such as Tiger Mask, but promised to give his all in his pursuit of his first title in Japan and promised Tiger Mask a tough battle in Tokyo. Devitt said that whatever the result, he is hopeful of teaming with Tiger Mask and hoping to learn even further from him, saying that one day he wants to emulate him in holding both the NWA Junior and IWGP Junior Heavyweight titles at the same time. Devitt also spoke that one day, he would like to lead the New Japan Junior division into Europe and especially his homeland of Ireland.

The two then posed for photographs before bowing deeply to one another and wishing each other luck.

El Samurai speaks on Milano

In preparation for Milano's 'entrance exam' on Sunday, 'examiner' El Samurai spoke briefly to the press, the respected veteran wsa in bullish mood ahead of the match. Samurai began by saying that most, if not all, rate him as the underdog going into this match, Samurai says he does not mind this, in fact he prefers it. Samurai said that in the past, he has beaten all the top Junior names, usually when he is out of form, as of late. He said that he still considers Milano a 'foreigner' and that he is unfamiliar with the New Japan style and fighting spirit. He believed Milano should be forced to undertake the dojo entrance exam, recieve training then become a dojo boy like the rest of his Junior peers have had to. Samurai finished by saying he intends to show the tru strength of the New Japan Junior division by repelling this 'invasion' and send Milano back home to Italy.

Nagata offers help to Real Wild Child

Yugi Nagata today sent a press release from his Nagata LOCK office, in it he offered the full and free use of his private training dojo to IWGP Provisional Tag Team champions, Real Wild Child, Manabu Nakanishi and Takao Omori. Nagata stated that Nakanishi was an old friend who had become estranged recently, but now they have a common emeny in BLACK REBORN, he was looking to rebuild old ties to combat the threat of Chono's group. He offered up Yamamoto and Yujiro as sparring partners, saying their abilities were comparable to Yano and Ishii's and that he hoped that RWC would encourage his pupils themselves to grow, as he will need all the help he can get combatting Chono in the future.

WRESTLE LAND, 10/8/06

Tokyo Korakuen Hall

Attendance 500

WRESTLE LAND chapter five has been written at the Korakuen today, again, another disappointing attendance for New Japan, barely pulling in 500 fans for the show, it is unlikely that New Japan will be running in this hall with WL for the time being.

Tanahashi warmed up for tomorrows V2 defence of his IWGP Heavyweight title by taking on another enemy from his past, Makai #4, making his WRESTLE LAND debut. Tanahashi and #4 had a back and forth encounter, and despite a valiant impersonation it was apparent that this was not the original #4, Katsuyori Shibata, although the imposter did manage to deliver a PK kick to Tanahashi, but it lacked the impact of Shibata's version and Tanahashi was able to recover, picking up the win with a Dragon Suplex Hold. Tanahashi attempted to unmask his foe, but was kept at bay by the sudden injection of other Makai member's from the back, so #4's hidden identity remained intact. Tanahashi also spoke about tomorrows match with Kojima, so it appears Tanahashi and his 'cousin' Hiroshi from the last WL show have somehow merged into one?!?

Makai Milano Collection AT picked up a big win today, defeating his soon to-be Junior rival Minoru's 'childhood friend' Tanaka, though the finish was mired in controversy as Makai leader, Hoshino made his presence felt, hitting Tanaka with a vital part attack from behind, leaving him primed for Milano to deliver the IR for the victory. Up on till then, it had been a see-saw, fast paced battle which excited the small crowd, with support being split right down the middle for both men. Earlier, Tanaka had been seen speaking on the phone to Minoru, chastising 'The Black Prince' for no-showing a double date the night before, meaning Tanaka had to satisfy two women all on his own, and he still hadn't returned his DVDs yet!!

TAKU Michinoku had his special challenge match against Tiger Mask, and the result was as expected, Tiger easily controlling the youngster, and despite a few short-lived but spirited comebacks, Tiger was never in trouble, winning with the Tiger Suplex Hold in less than eight minutes. What was not expected, was TAKU's conduct after the match, TAKU sneak attacking the NWA Junior Heavyweight champion, then being joined in the assault by various Makai Club members. TAKU tore at Tiger's mask, pulling it free and forcing Tiger to flee the ring with a towel over his head. TAKU held up Tiger's mask triumpantly and declared himself officially Makai!

Toru Yano and Taichi Ishikari stepped into unfamiliar territory today, participating in a 'Sake on a Pole' Match, which featured a bottle of the potent drink hanging off a pole in one corner of the ring, the rules being that however got possession of the bottle could use it as a legal weapon. After a short but intense brawl, Yano's extra experience told and he flattened Ishikari with the Oni Koroshi. Yano then climbed the corner and retrieved the bottle, Yano celebrated and cracked open the bottle, and went to take a swig... then appeared to change his mind. Yano yelled 'Kids, Say no to Sake!'. He then propped a groggy Ishikari up and emptied the contents down Ishikari's throat, well some of it, most ended up on Ishikari. Yano then smashed the bottle over Ishikari's head and then easily pinned him.

With partner Jado out injured, Gedo was forced to face Makai HEAT and a mystery partner on his own in a handicap match. Before the match began, Makai leader Kentaro Hoshino took the microphone and introduced the newest Makai assassin, a person from both Jado and Gedo's past...and present, Makai Masked CTU! A man then entered the ring in a Makai style mask and took it off, to reveal the CTU mask underneath. Once the match begun, Gedo fought valiantly and had the crowd on his side, but was overwhelmed by the numerical disadvantage he was suffering, plus liberal interference from Hoshino and eventually fell to a Control Terrorism Buster, the move of CTU boss Liger!

There was another mystery partner revelation in the proceeding match, an eight man tag between the CBOD's and a quartet of Makai assassins, including new members #24 and Makai BADBOY. The three CBOD's came to the ring first, before Goto took a microphone and introduced the newest dog, the master of the senton, Hiro Saito. However, even the inclusion of Hiro could not stop the CBOD's falling to defeat, as the new Makai #24 pinned Ohara with a Makai Driver. After the bell, all eight men brawled to the back, so the CBOD - Makai feud appears far from over.

Edo Samurai was finally able to unmask nemesis Makai Masked Hurricane today, but only after a 'Masks versus Masks No Escape' Match, the ring was surrounded by the entire WRESTLE LAND roster during the match, aas to prevent Hurricane from escaping once again. A fast paced battle ensured, with both teams throwing their opponents to the lions so to speak outside the ring, for a beating then being bundled back into the ring. Edo was eventually able to trap Hurricane alone and finish him with the Samurai Bomb. As per the stipulations, this meant both members of the losing team had to unmask, Makai #2 went first, volutarily, revealing to no-ones surprise that he is former Makai member and New Japan talent, Ryutai Chickuzen. Chickuzen said, despite losing his mask, he will remain Makai. It was then the turn of Hurricanwe, who refused, Samurai and Pegasus then attacked him and tore at his mask...revealing underneath it an orange mask with a big 'C' on it. The rest of the Makai Club then rushed the ring and attacked Samurai, leading to a big brawl. Hurricane then grabbed the house microphone and introduced himself, as Makai Masked Cyclone!

Perrenial openers, Tsubjo Genjin and Gran Naniwa teamed together today, taking on Yano's Drunken Posse members, Kashiwa and Ishizaki, the caveman was the one who took the fall, submitting to the Daigoro Clutch, afterwards the Posse held a sake celebrate without Yano and invited their opponents to try sake, Genjin just sniffed it suspiciously before taking a sip, then jumping around excitedly, grabbing for the bottle Kashiwa was holding, forcing Naniwa to slap him to calm him back down.

1. Daigoro Kashiwa and Teppei Ishizaki defeated Tsubo Genjin and Gran Naniwa (7:25) when Kashiwa defeated Genjin with a Daigoro Clutch.

2. Masks versus Masks No Escape - Edo Samurai and Pegasus Kid defeated Makai Masked Hurricane and Makai #2 (8:25) when Samurai defeated Hurricane with the Samurai Bomb.

3. Makai #5, Makai #11, Makai #24 and Makai BADBOY defeated Black Strong Machine, Tatsutoshi Goto, Michiyoshi Ohara and Hiro Saito in (9:42) when #24 defeated Ohara with a Makai Driver

4. Handicap Match - Makai HEAT and Makai Masked CTU defeated Gedo (8:02) when Makai Masked CTU defeated Gedo with a Control Terrorism Buster.

5. Sake on a Pole Match - Toru Yano defeated Taichi Ishikari (9:53) by pinfall after a bottle attack.

6. TAKU Special Challenge - Tiger Mask defeated TAKU Michinoku (7:38) with a Tiger Suplex Hold.

7. Makai Milano Collection AT defeated Tanaka (11:33) with the IR.

8. Tanahashi defeated Makai #4 (13:31) with a Dragon Suplex Hold.

0. Bonus Track - Tanahashi, Tanaka, Tiger Mask IV, Black Strong Machine and Tatsutoshi Goto defeated Makai Milano Collection AT, Makai BADBOY, Makai HEAT, Makai Masked CTU and Makai #24 (14:58).

BADBOY threw Goto over the top rope (2:13). Machine used a Devil Windmill Suplex Hold on Masked CTU (4:07). Machine was thrown over the top rope by Makai HEAT (7:42). Tanaka used a Tanaka Special on Makai #24 (8:01) Makai BADBOY pinned Tanaka after a chair attack (8:12). Tanahashi used a Sling Blade on Makai HEAT (11:11). Tiger Mask used a Tiger Suplex Hold on BADBOY (12:58) Tanahashi used the Sling Blade on Milano (14.58)

NJPW "EXPLOSION", 10/9/06 (WPW)

Tokyo Ryogoku Kokugikan

Attendance 11500 Super No Vacancy Full House

The EXPLOSION tour lived up to its name as it begun today, New Japan completely filling Tokyo Ryogoku Kokugikan, not a single seat been available. The lure of an IWGP Heavyweight title match, Nakamura's first singles test since his return and the first skirmish in the burgeoning BLACK REBORN versus the 'Real Wild Child/Nagata LOCK office alliance' war proving to be a big draw with the fans, who were not disappointed, with a white hot, action packed show lasting nearly four hours.

A large chunk of that four hours was devoted to the main event, Hiroshi Tanahashi's V2 defence of his IWGP Heavyweight title against Satoshi Kojima, the match lasting close to fifty minutes. Despite the long length of the match, it began at a frenetic pace, Kojima attempting to land a Lariat within the first few minutes, but Tanahashi was too fresh and as able to avoid the blow. The match then began to slow as it passed the ten minute mark, each man becoming more methodical and trying to avoid making that crucial mistake that the opponent could seize upon. Tanahashi was able to seize control just short of the quarter hour, hammering Kojima in the corner with blows then pulling him to the centre of the ring and hitting a beautiful German Suplex Hold for a near fall. Tanahashi then shifted his attention to neutralising Kojima's main weapon, his Lariat arm. Tanahashi repeated attacked the arm, bashing it across the guard rails and going for the cross armbreaker, but was never able to fully lock it in as Kojima fought bravely. Kojima himself took a methodical approach against the champion, knowing that Tanahashi's keys to victory lay in his speed and agility, Kojima targeted his legs, using amongst other techniques, a scorpion deathlock, STF and aiming repeated kicks at Tanahashi's knees. This back and forth action took the match past the half hour, with neither man gaining any great advantage, the crowd beginning to sense that this match may go the distance, just like Kojima's match with Nakamura for the IWGP title back in March 2005.

Maybe Kojima sensed this as well, knowing that a draw would see Tanahashi retain his title, as the challenger found a second wind, taking it to Tanahashi with some vicious forearms, forcing Tanahashi from the ring, Kojima, not letting up, launched himself over the top rope with a hilo onto Tanahashi, bringing a rapturous cheer from the crowd. Kojima then brought out the big guns, hitting Tanahashi with everyhting he had, two German Suplexes, the Koji Cutter, the CCD and finally a Lariat, though Tanahashi amazingly kicked out, simply refusing to give up his title. Kojima the spiked Tanahashi with a Dragon Suplex, Tanahashi though just shook it off and regained his footing, to deafening 'Tanahashi' calls. Tanahasi then became some kind of unstoppable force to which Kojima simply had no answer, Tanahashi utilising the full range of his 'dragon' techniques taught to him by Tatsumi Fujinami, including a spectacular Dragon Rocket to take control of the match as forty five minutes approached.

However, just when it looked as though Tanahashi may have been en route to a famous and hard-fought victory, he almost snatched defeat from the jaws of victory as he went for a second Dragon Rocket, Kojima avoiding it at the last second and causing Tanahashi to crash into the barricades. Kojima then measured Tanahashi up on the outside and flattened him with a thunderous Lariat, sending both men crashing over the railings, into the front row! Kojima was first to rise and dragged the champion back over the rail and into the ring at the count of seventeen. Kojima then delivered another Lariat to Tanahashi, who once again, amazingly, refused to stay down.

A clearly frustrated Kojima then bailed to outside the ring and grabbed a chair from the front row and threw it into the ring. Tanahashi was still down at this point, the physical toll of the match showing as Kojima picked Tanahashi up and positioned him over the chair, ready to drop the champion with the CCD. Tanahashi though, showed the same resiliance he had shown against Nakanishi and wriggled out of the move, reversing it into a Dragon Sleeper. Tanahashi held onto the move desperately as Kojima inched towards the ropes, Kojima was eventually able to get his feet on the ropes, and ran up them, turning Tanahashi over and escaping. Tanahashi was up like a shot though and caught the charging Kojima by charging him himself and catching him with the Sling Blade. Tanahashi then went up top and hit a top rope splash, before once again going to the Dragon Sleeper that beat Nakanishi, Kojima eventually passing out, awarding the match to Tanahashi, who wept tears of joy at the sound of the bell.Tanahashi was barely able to stand as he received his title and trophies and Kojima had to be carried from the ring by the dojo boys, still unconcious.

Shinsuke Nakamura faced his first direct singles test since his return from America, and his test was the formiddable Giant Bernard, however, Nakamura passed this test with flying colours, soundly defeating Bernard in just over twelve minutes. The match started off with a test of strength between the two and although, disappointingly for the crowd, Bernard won, Nakamura was more than able to hold his own against a much bigger opponent. Nakamura though was able to control long stretches of the match, using his striking ability and still having a obvious speed advantage over Bernard, despite his recent weight gain. Nakamura in the end though, did demonstrate some awesome strength, lifting the over 300lb Bernard clean off the floor and planting him onto the canvas with a Backdrop, then holding it for the three count. After the match, Bernard endorsed Nakamura as one of New Japans strongest fighters and said that he hopes to one day face him again, in order to extract revenge for todays defeat. Nakamura took the microphone and gave New Japan's top heavyweights a stark warning, Nakamura announced that he will not be taking sides in the brewing faction war in New Japan and will be looking to claim important victories over all his competitors en route to the IWGP Heavyweight title.

The factional war that Nakamura spoke about began in earnest today as the four heavyweight members of BLACK REBORN took on IWGP Provisional Tag Team champions Real Wild Child and their partners, Yugi Nagata and Takashi Iizuka, teaming together for the first time in years. The match was a vicious brawl, with the referee repeatedly threatened to throw the match out as all eight men brawled around the ring. There were some particulary vicious exchanges between Chono and Nagata, with obviously no love lost between the two former friends and now seemingly self-appointed (at least in Nagata's case) leaders of these opposing armies. Takao Omori, in his return to a New Japan ring, was particulary impressive, easily controlling Yano and Ishii and mixing it up with Tenzan on occasion. However, surprisingly, it was Takashi Iizuka, embarking on his twentieth anniversary tour, who picked up the deciding fall, choking out Ishii with a Sleeper, Iizuka climbing onto the back on Ishii and taking his opponent's full weight when Ishii fell backwards. However, once the bell rung, Iizuka was unable to get to his feet under his own power. He was attended to by the ring boys as his partners and even his opponents looked on. Iizuka was taken to the back on a stretcher and despatch immediately to a local medical facility. During the post match interviews, Nagata looked especially upset, obviously concerned about his old friend and said that he was going straight to the hospital to check on Iizuka's condition.

Tiger Mask sucessfully made his V3 defence of his NWA Junior Heavyweight title in the building where he won it, against his new found friend and somewhat protege, Prince Devitt. The result of the bout was never really in doubt, even before the bell had rung and Tiger had little trouble despatching Devitt with the Tiger Suplex Hold, despite a few spirited comebacks by the European superstar, though Devitt lasted longer than their 4/28 match, which Tiger won in eight minutes. This was more a learning experience for Devitt, who after the match, said he was thankful for the opportunity and hopes that he will someday be able to re-challenge for the title, but for the moment was looking forward to teaming with Tiger Mask in the near future and learning more about his craft. Tiger Mask said that he was pleased to make another sucessful defence of his title and said the match was not as easy as it looked, saying Devitt has great heart and plenty of potential and that is why he has taken him under his wing, saying that he and Devitt may soon visit Europe together on a learning excursion for Tiger Mask.

Still fuming after Makabe dumped him out of the VOLCANO tournament in LOCK UP, Riki Choshu gained a measure of revege today, teaming with Akebono to defeat the WMG Heavyweight champion Togi (Shinya) Makabe and his partner, Shiro Koshinaka in tag action. Choshu was unassailable today, the old fire seemingly renewed in the veteran, Makabe and Koshinaka simply unable to contain 'Power Hall', Akebono been reduced to a mere spectator, much like Nakamura on the last tour, as Choshu simply refused to tag out and kept fighting viciously, eventually near decapitating Koshinaka with an intense Lariat, picking up an easy pinfall. Choshu sent warning to Makabe, Bernard, Chono, pretty much everyone on the roster, telling them the old fiery Choshu has been reignited and he will not be tolerating any disrespect from anyone any more.

Nagata LOCK pupils Naofumi Yamamoto and Yujiro continued their fledgling team today, debuting as a unit in the main New Japan ring against Yamamoto's biggest rival, Ryuoji Sai and former Kings Road representative, Taichi Ishikari. This tag was a precursor to the upcoming G2 U30 Climax, and neither team wanted to go into the tournament suffering a loss, in the end, neither did, as all four men brawled furiously, especially Yamamoto and Sai, tearing at each other and throwing referee Tayama down, prompting him to throw the match out. This however did not stop the wild brawl, all four impressing with their intensity and fire, eventually having to be pulled off one another by the ring attendents and Nagata himself, calming his pupils down and sending them to the back.

The CTU trio of Liger, Minoru and Gedo were sucessful today in their six man tag team match, beating the team of Kanemoto, Wataru and Taguchi when Liger hit the CTB on Wataru. It was a long but fast paced six man match, with both teams having numerous opportunities to win the match, but been foiled by the other team at the last second. The real story of the match though was the seeming dissention amongst the CTU ranks, Gedo sometimes refusing to help his partners, especially Liger. After the match, Gedo took the microphone and asked Liger where he was last night when Gedo was fighting a handicap match in WRESTLE LAND, falling to a Masked CTU using the Liger Bomb. Liger was shocked at Gedo's suspicion, saying that the CTU are brothers, Liger said that, to prove to Gedo where his loyalties lie, he will personally enter WRESTLE LAND and defeat and unmask the Makai Masked CTU, adding that he was not pleased at someone disrespecting him by stealing his moves.

BLACK REBORN Junior representative and New Japan 'foreigner' Milano Collection AT faced a 'Junior division entrance exam' against the veteran and Junior wall, El Samurai. Milano was fully tested by Samurai, the match a see saw affair, despite most believing Milano would have little trouble beating the out of sorts Samurai. In fact, Samurai could have won the match, trapping Milano with his chickenwing armlock no less than three times, but Milano was able to escape via the ropes each time. In the end, Milano was able to find another gear, hitting Samurai with a powerbomb, kneedrop and a moonsault before finishing him with the IR II to pass his 'exam'. Milano was surprisingly respectful to his opponent after the match, helping Samurai to his feet and offering a handshake. Samurai said that athletes of Milano's quality are always welcome in New Japan and predicted that Milano will make a big impact in the division, but only if he stops underestimating his opponents, as he believed he had today.

Big Japan standout Daisuke Sekimoto made his New Japan debut today, in preperation for his participation in the G2 tournament, teaming with Young Lion Uwano against Hirasawa and Naito. Naito once again tasted defeat, Sekimoto picking up a momentum building win, pinning Naito with a German Suplex Hold to cap an impressive performance.

1. Daisuke Sekimoto and Takashi Uwano defeated Mitshuhide Hirasawa and Tetsuya Naito (9:31) when Sekimoto defeated Naito with a German Suplex Hold.

Iizuka injury update

New Japan veteran Takashi Iizuka was badly injured last night at the 'EXPLOSION' show, Iizuka suffered a severe tear in his abdominal wall, resulting in a hernia that required immediate surgery. Iizuka is expected to be out of action for at least the rest of the year recuperating. The injury appears to have happened when Iizuka was crushed underneath Tomohiro Ishii whilst applying a sleeperhold, the fact that Iizuka still kept the hold on and won the match is testament to his toughness.

Unfortunately, this was Iizuka's twentieth anniverary tour and could not have gotten off to a worse start for him. As it stands, 11/3 will still be Iizuka's anniversary show, but his match against AKIRA has been indefinately postponed.

OOC Note: This injury is legit and not a storyline, and an absolute bastard for timing aswell, I had big plans for Iizuka. Don't you just love it when TEW throws you a curveball :P

Tanahashi Victory Press Conference

After his sucessful V2 defence of his IWGP Heavyweight title, champion Hiroshi Tanahashi held a victory press conference, chaired by Vice-President Sugehayashi today, to give his thoughts on the match and his upcoming plans.

Tanahashi started by thanking his opponent yesterday, Satoshi Kojima, for a tough battle

that Tanahashi felt fully tested his abilities. Tanahashi said Kojima was a welcome edition to the New Japan roster and looked forward to facing him once again further down the line. Tanahashi said Kojima was a complete fighter, a perfect balance of power and speed and Tanahashi felt he was only able to beat him because Kojima's anger and frustration got the better of him, leading to him making a mistake that he capitalized on. Tanahashi said he could understand Kojima's frustration, but said that any opponent will have to render Tanahashi fully unconcious if they want to take his IWGP title.

Tanahashi then went on to thank the fans at Sumo Hall, saying their raptuous support was a big factor in his victory, as he fed off their energy and channeled it into himself in the closing stages of the match, allowing for him to make his comeback and defeat Kojima. Tanahashi called on all New Japan fans to give him the same level of support in all his matches and he will repay them with more victories and show them the true spirit of professional wrestling.

The champion went on to say that he wants to be known as a fighting champion and that is why he has spoken to President Inoki and V-P Sugehayashi about scheduling his V3 defence as soon as possible. Vice President Sugehayashi then informed Tanahashi that his request has been granted and he will make his V3 at the Korakuen Hall on 11/6, although his opponent has yet to be decided. Sugehayashi promised to keep watch during the early stages of the EXPLOSION tour, looking for possible opponents and promising Tanahashi his sternest test yet. Tanahashi reacted positively, saying he fears no one on the New Japan roster and would welcome all challenges.

Tanahashi finished up by saying that he will be entering the dojo before the tour starts, hoping to perfect a new, impactful finisher as he feels the Sling Blade lacks the destructive force needed to help him retain his title, which is why he has relied on the Dragon Sleeper beforehand, but knows future opponents will note this and Tanahashi wants to keep them guessing about his offence.

Updated EXPLOSION tour cards released

In addition to the G2 U30 tournament matches already announced, New Japan released partial cards for the rest of the tour. Amongst the points of interest is the continuing skirmishes between BLACK REBORN and the RWC/NLO alliance, leading to RWC's V1 defence of their IWGP Provisional Tag Team titles against Yano and Ishii on 10/22, Yano and Ishii taking advantage of both of them having a 'rest' day from the G2 tournament, though whether facing a team of such power as Nakanishi and Omori can be considered a rest will tell in time. Should RWC surpass Yano and Ishii, surely this would then pave the way for the much anticipated IWGP Tag Team title unification match between ChoTen and RWC, possibly when New Japan makes its now only annual visit to the Tokyo Dome on 1/4.

Also something worth noting is that the New Japan 'foreigners', Milano Collection At and the team of Bernard and Tomko seem to be undertaking trial series somewhat, with Milano facing Wataru, Jado, Gedo and finally Junior legend, Jushin Thunder Liger at the Korakuen in singles competition. These four matches will go a long way in finding out just where Milano lies in the Junior division pecking order. Also, it seems his loyalties have yet to be decided as he fritters between teaming the regular army and CTU in the tag matches he is involved in the lead up to his big match with Liger.

Bernard and Tomko, who have struggled as a team since joining New Japan, despite Bernard's singles sucess, face pretty much all of New Japan's top established teams, including RWC, Yano and Ishii and finally ChoTen, as well as some top heavyweight wrestlers been put together, such as their first test, the team of Nakamura and Akebono.

The fledgling team of Yamamoto and Yujiro also get some oppotunities when they are not participating in the G2 tournament, not least on 10/28, when they team to face teacher, Yugi Nagata, who has hand picked Mitsuhide Hirasawa as his partner for the match, maybe a sign that Hirasawa may soon be joining Nagata LOCK?

Nagata LOCK visits Iizuka in hospital

After his injury at Sumo Hall and subsequent hospitalisation, Takashi Iizuka has in surprisingly high spirits when close friend and former G1 Tag League winning partner, Yugi Nagata, visited him, along with pupils Yamamoto and Yujiro as he recovers from his surgery. Nagata said that Iizuka had shown the heart and spirit of a true champion, overcoming the physical pain barrier to ensure his team were victorious. Nagata told reporters that he brought his pupils along so they could see that despite injury, which is certain in this business, it is important to not give up and remain mentally strong, like Iizuka is doing. Nagata continued that he was deeply humbled by Iizuka's show of determination, and would be honoured if Iizuka would join the Nagata LOCK office and use their dojo on his road back to fitness.

Iizuka was overjoyed at Nagata's offer and accepted immediately, he suggested to Nagata that they should reform their sucessful tag team from the past and look towards capturing the IWGP Tag Team titles, saying that winning them would be a special moment, especially as his anniversary year has been one of his least sucessful, adding that beating ChoTen for them would be all the more special, especially for Nagata and New Japan as a whole.

Nagata was receptive to the idea and told Iizuka to use this injury as a new starting point in his career, he put BLACK REBORN on notice, saying that when Iizuka is fully healed, he will be unleashing a new, improved and refreshed Iizuka upon them, and Ishii, who caused this injury, is first in line.

Iizuka then went on to speak about his disappointment at being injured, feeling that this was to be a crucial time for both himself and New Japan, he, unlike Nagata, does not blame Ishii for the injury, saying that it is the price you pay being a professinal wrestler, and Iizuka would not have it any other way. He went on to say that he is especially upset that he will be unable to wrestle on his twentieth anniversary show against former J-J-JACKS partner, AKIRA, though promised he would be in attendence, supporting Nagata LOCK and hoped that AKIRA can find a space in his schedule for the match in the new year.

Nishio City Castle Gymnasium

Attendence 1600

The G2 U30 tournament is under way, the first set of Block matches taking place today. The pick of the first day saw new Nagata LOCK pupi, Yujiro face his fellow pupils year long nemesis, Ryuoji Sai. Yujiro showed tremendous growth in his short time under Nagata's tutelage, controlling Sai for long periods and doing what Yamamoto has been unable to do since last October and pin Sai, catching a charging Sai with a vicious powerslam for the win. Before the match, most would have predicted the more senior Sai to make short work of Yujiro, but Yujiro was on fire today, utilising his Amaresu background to tie Sai up in knots and showing a ruthless instinct, continously attacking Sai with knees and forearms.

Yujiro did show his inexperience though at times, allowing Sai to come back into the match, such as missing a corner charge, Sai then cradling Yujiro for a near fall. Sai also looked on the verge of victory at one point, dropping Yujiro with his Sidmouth (Modified Backdrop Hold) then going for the jujigatame, but Yujiro showed grit and determination and fought to the ropes for the break. This then seemed to spur Yujiro on even more, and shortly after he capitalised on Sai's rashness to gain a morale boosting victory.

The rest of the first round matches provided no surprises, as the matches went as most predicted. Former RikiPro stars Tomohiro Ishii and Takashi Uwano faced off in the other Block A match, before the match Uwano took a microphone and said he was going to punish Ishii severly for turning his back on Choshu and joining BR. Ishii just wiltingly mocked his former compatriot and it was the BR man who picked up the win, showing some new heel tricks, probably shown to him by Chono to retain control and pin Uwano after a brainbuster just passed the ten minute mark.

In Block B, Naofumi Yamamoto made a comfortable start to his challenge, pinning Kings Road representative Taichi Ishikari with his Backdrop Suplex Hold. Yamamoto was never really in danger, his seniority over his opponent evident, Ishikari been limited only to rare, but short lived comebacks, Nagata's teachings been evident in Yamamoto aswell, Ishikari been stung with some vicious kicks by Yamamoto. After the match, Yamamoto took the microphone and told Yujiro to defeat Sai later on in the evening, then go on to win Block A, telling Yujiro he will see him in the final, and may the best man win, before giving Nagata's trademark salute to the crowd as he left.

In the opening match of the tournament, most recent dojo graduate Tetsuya Naito, faced a stern test in the shape of one of the pre-tournament favourites, Toru Yano. Yano expectedly made short work of Naito, though Yano showed a poor attitude to his opponent, openly mocking Naito when he was down, incurring the wrath of the crowd, getting them firmly behind the Young Lion, though it was to no avail, as Yano dropped Naito with his Oni Koroshi for an easy pinfall.

In the non tournament matches, Hiroshi Tanahashi made it two victories in a row against Kojima, in a tag match which featured three former All Japan talents, but neither were involved in the decision in their tag match, 64th generation Yokozuna, Akebono suffering a count out loss after being pump-kicked by Giant Bernard onto the guard rails outside, which promptly collapsed under Akebono's weight and the sumo was unable to make back into the ring by the count of twenty. After the match, Akebono said he had bought shame upon himself and felt embarassed about what had transpired, he promised he would gain vengeance against Bernard for this public shame. Tanahashi repsonded to the earlier challenge (see below) by telling the two to fight one on one to see which is worthy to challenge for the IWGP title, saying he doesn't mind which one wins as he sees them both as near the pinnacle of New Japan.

In a big six man tag semi main event, both Real Wild Child and Riki Choshu gained some steam and first blood against their enemies, Chono and Makabe respectively, surprising by his absence was Tenzan, who was no where to be found on the card. Chono obviously missed his regular partner, having some communication problems with Makabe and Koshinaka, eventually leading to Choshu gaining a direct victory over the WMG Heavyweight champion, Makabe, pinning him with a Lariat. The animosity between RWC and ChoTen spilled over though at the end of the match, Chono sneak attacking Omori, levelling him with a Yakuza Kick before getitng into a fierce brawl with Nakanishi, the ring attendents having to pull the two former allies apart. Omori was furious with Chono and called for a singles match with the BR leader, stating that if Chono wants to fight, let him attack from the front next time.

In openweight tag action, the 'ace' team of Yugi Nagata and Koji Kanemoto took on the pretender to Nagata's ace crown, Shinsuke Nakamura and Kanemoto's regular partner, Wataru Inoue. This was a well recieved match, with the juniors mixing it well with the heavyweights, Kanemoto and Inoue flying around the ring, outpacing their bigger opponents, Kanemoto even at one point getting Nakamura in the Ankle Hold, altough Nakamura was simply too strong for Kanemoto and kicked him off. In the end, the size advantage came into play, Nagata destroying Wataru with a Thunder Death Driver, Wataru having to be helped from the ring in a daze. After the match, Nakamura shook the hand of Nagata and endorsed him as Tanahashi's next challenger. Nagata seemed to take to this idea and said he refuses to accept Tanahashi as champion till he faces someone of either Nagata or Nakamura's level.

In Junior tag action, CTU managed to gain the victory in both contests, Liger and Black Tiger defeating Tiger Mask and Prince Devitt, Liger dropping the young Irishman with a brainbuster, bringing Devitt's recent good run down with quite literally, a bump. Tiger Mask consoled his partner after the match, saying that with more training and the right attitude, one day he will gain his revenge on Liger. In the opening match, Minoru, replacing the injured Jado as Gedo's partner, proved to be the decisive factor in an almost rematch of Jado and Gedo's most recent title defence, Minoru though, brought this one to a much earlier conclusion than usual, pinning Samurai, whose poor form looks like continung, after the Santa Monica Pier.

1. Minoru and Gedo defeated El Samurai and Ryusuke Taguchi (11:31) when Minoru defeated Samurai with the Santa Monica Pier.

2. G2 U30 Climax - Block B: Toru Yano defeated Tetsuya Naito (8:19) with the Oni Koroshi.

3. G2 U30 Climax - Block B: Naofumi Yamamoto defeated Taichi Ishikari (13:01) with a Backdrop Suplex Hold.

4. G2 U30 Climax - Block A: Tomohiro Ishii defeated Takashi Uwano (10:34) with a Brainbuster.

5. G2 U30 Climax - Block A: Yujiro defeated Ryuoji Sai (15:48) with a Powerslam.

6. Jushin Thunder Liger and Black Tiger defeated Tiger Mask and Prince Devitt (14:57) when Liger defeated Devitt with a Sheer Drop Brainbuster.

7. Yuji Nagata and Koji Kanemoto defeated Shinsuke Nakamura and Wataru Inoue (17:18) when Nagata defeated Wataru with a Thunder Death Driver.

8. Riki Choshu, Manabu Nakanishi and Takao Omori defeated Masahiro Chono, Togi Makabe and Shiro Koshinaka (18:32) when Choshu defeated Makabe with a Lariat.

9. Hiroshi Tanahashi and Giant Bernard defeated Akebono and Satoshi Kojima (13:51) when Akebono was counted out.

Attendance 2000

The EXPLOSION tour rumbled on today as New Japan visited the Tottori Prefecture, where the fans were treated to an eight man tag team main event as IWGP Champion Tanahashi, Yugi Nagata and Real Wild Child faced off against ChoTen and their unfamiliar partners, former All Japan talents, Giant Bernard and Satoshi Kojima. After yesterdays endorsement by Nakamura, Yugi Nagata further staked his claim for an IWGP title shot, as he was on fire today, taking it to all his opponents and continuing his recent hot form, having not personally dropped a fall since his G1 final loss to Nakanishi. Most recent challenger Kojima was Nagata's victim today, falling to an Exploder Suplex, so even more weight has now been thrown behind Nagata's cause. What was also interesting in this match was the dynamic between ChoTen and Real Wild Child, their rivalry looking to overshadow RWC's upcoming IWGP Provision Tag Team title defence against Chono loyalists, Yano and Ishii. All four members of the two teams threw themselves at each other, but neither gaining a clear advantage, RWC's power fighting been neutralised by ChoTen's superior teamwork and heel tactics. After the match, Tanahashi congratulated Nagata on his victory and verbally agreed that Nagata should be his next challenger, unless the New Japan offices want him to fight in number one contenders match versus Nakamura, whom Tanahashi also said was worthy of a title shot as Tanahashi's main generation rival.

Nagata LOCK pupils, Yamamoto and Yujiro got a big opportunity to follow up their singles victories yesterday in a day off from the G2 tournament, facing the veteran combo of Makabe and Koshinaka, unfortunately for Yamamoto and Yujiro, it was this difference in experience which ultimately cost them the victory today, the wily Koshinaka taking advantage of a mistake from the young Yujiro, consigning him to defeat following a diving hip attack. Yamamoto and Yujiro will take heart from the match though, as they caused Makabe and Koshinaka much more trouble than most predicted and could have won the match, had luck been on their side today.

Riki Choshu gained a measure of direct revenge against the, as he labelled him before the match, 'turncoat' Ishii, punishing him with an intense flurry of Lariats, completely defeating his former protege, as Yano and Ishii's build towards their IWGP Provisional Tag Team title shot suffered an early derailment, many in the press are questioning Chono's decision to send his 'tag assassins' after RWC whilst they are also competing in the G2 tournament, fearing that the two youngsters will not be able to focus properly and come out of the tour empty handed as aa result. In this match, Yano and Ishii were completely dominated by Choshu, who just lately is showing a renewed fire, the likes of which have not been seen in a long time, it appears Choshu has finally had enough of people such as Ishii, Makabe, Kanemura and Bernard disrespecting him and appears ready to do something about it in the ring.

After defeat in both of yesterdays junior matches, the regular army struck back today, themselves winning both matches, though the six man tag match was a strange one, as Sekigun loyalist, Devitt teamed with CTU against Tiger Mask, Wataru Inoue and the BR affiliated Milano Collection AT. It was these two 'out of place' wrestlers who had the deciding say in the match, Milano pinning Devitt with the IR II. Interestingly after the match, all six men brawled, with Devitt and Milano changing sides, Milano fighting alongside Liger and Minoru and Devitt battling against CTU, so it looks as though Milano is aligning with CTU, or against the Sekigun at the very least. In the other junior match, El Samurai and Ryusuke Taguchi gained revenge for yesterday's loss to Gedo and Minoru, as this time Gedo teamed with Black Tiger and it was Tiger who took the loss, submitting to Sammy's Chickenwing armlock. This rivalry between El Samurai and Taguchi and Jado and Gedo seems to keep simmering away, popping up now and again, with the team relatively evenly matched.

As stated before, it was an 'off day' from the G2 tournament, although this didn't mean the Young Lions got a holiday, as Hirasawa, Uwano and Naito teamed to face the outside threat of Sai, Sekimoto and Ishikari. It was the outsiders who took the victory, Sai recovering from his opening loss to Yujiro to pain Naito with the Sidmouth. Sai will be looking to use this victory as a momentum boost going into his match with Uwano tomorrow, and the two had some heated exchanges today when they got chance. Also continuing to impress was Big Japan standout, Daisuke Sekimoto, as he looks to open his account with a win tomorrow against Naofumi Yamamoto.

1. Ryuoji Sai, Taichi Ishikari and Daisuke Sekimoto defeated Mitsuhide Hirasawa, Takashi Uwano and Tetsuya Naito (10:03) when Sai defeated Naito with the Sidmouth.

2. El Samurai and Ryusuke Taguchi defeated Black Tiger and Gedo (11:44) when Samurai defeated Black Tiger with a Chickenwing Armlock.

3. Tiger Mask, Wataru Inoue and Milano Collection AT defeated Jushin Thunder Liger, Minoru and Prince Devitt (14:47) when Milano defeated Devitt with the IR II.

4. Riki Choshu and Akebono defeated Toru Yano and Tomohiro Ishii (10:43) when Choshu defeated Ishii with a Lariat.

5. Togi Makabe and Shiro Koshinaka defeated Naofumi Yamamoto and Yujiro (13:46) when Koshinaka defeated Yujiro with a Diving Hip Attack.

6. Hiroshi Tanahashi, Yuji Nagata, Manabu Nakanishi and Takao Omori defeated Masahiro Chono, Hiroyoshi Tenzan, Giant Bernard and Satoshi Kojima (16:49) when Nagata defeated Kojima with an Exploder Suplex.

Attendance 2100 Super No Vacancy

The second round of matches in the qualifying stages of the G2 U30 Climax are in the books, and as it stands, it is the two younger members of BLACK REBORN who are in control with Ishii and Yano topping Blocks A and B respectively with perfect records so far. Both men made short work of their opponents today, showing the gulf in class that has come about with their recent growth and tutoring from Chono. Ishii was up first, taking on the young lion Hirasawa, despite Hirasawa throwing everything he had at Ishii, the former Choshu loyalist was just too big and powerful for Hirasawa, and simply overwhelmed with with power moves, eventually finishing him with a powerbomb in less than seven minutes.

Teammate Yano's match was slightly more of a test for him, as he took on Kings Road representative, Taichi Ishikari. Again though the experience and growth gap was evident, as Yano was in control for much of the match, with Ishikari onlt really making one meaningful comeback, which Yano cut off with a vital part attack and finished Ishikari off with the Oni Koroshi, then applied the Crab Hold for the submission victory.

Elsewhere in the tournament, Zero One representative, Ryuoji Sai put his opening day loss to Yujiro behind, comprehensively beating Takashi Uwano with a Sky Kick. Sai continued to show the impressive skills he had shown against Yujiro and was never in trouble versus Uwano, despite Uwano's seniority and greater experience. Uwano spoke about this in his post match interview, saying that he feels he needs to re-evaluate his approach to professional wrestling.

In the pick of todays tournament matches, two of the favourites to win the tournament faced off in Block B as Naofumi Yamamoto took on Big Japan star, Daisuke Sekimoto, the match did not fail to deliver on the hype, as both men gave their all against each other. The match was an understandably see saw affair, as neither could gain a clear advantage, boths will to win cancelling each other out. Yamamoto threw his whole arsenal at Sekimoto, hitting a Backdrop Hold for a near fall and trapping Sekimoto in the figure four leglock, but Sekimoto was able to fight his way out, Sekimoto gave as good as he got though, stunning Yamamoto with multiple Lariats and a sublime German Suplex Hold, Yamamoto barely kicking out before the three. With both aware of the twenty minute time limit in place in all block matches, the last sixty seconds as the clock ticked down became a mat war, the two trading cradles, but neither was able to capture a decisive fall, and the time limit expired, the match ending in a draw. After the match, both praised their opponent and the two shook hands backstage, as a sign of a newfound mutual respect.

In the non-tournament matches, BLACK REBORN were able to turn around a run of recent defeats as ChoTen teamed with WMG Heavyweight champion, Togi Makabe to face the team of Hiroshi Tanahashi, Riki Choshu and Satoshi Kojima, it was Kojima who took the fall, his second direct loss in a row and so far, he is winless since his IWGP title challenge, which of course, also ended in defeat. Choshu reminded Kojima of this after the match, verbally chastising the recently returned Kojima, telling him to refind the fire that made him the only four crown champion in Japanese wrestling history or face slipping down the New Japan rankings at a seroious pace. The match itself was mainly a battle between mortal enemies Chono and Choshu, who held nothing back against each other, but it was the rejuvinated Choshu who was able to control Chono, to the surprise of most, especially Chono, who seemed bewildered at the lack of impact his offence was having on 'Power Hall'. Choshu was also especially firey towards Makabe, who eventually rolled from the ring and attacked Choshu with a chair when he followed, Choshu's rage getting the better of him. Some slick teamwork began to punish Choshu, forcing him to tag out to Kojima, but Chono made short work of the out of sorts Kojima, eventually submitting him with the FTS.

The first test of a difficult tour for the gaijin tag team of Giant Bernard and Travis Tomko, the mismatched team of Nakamura and Akebono, proved too much for them, despite their opponents lack of experience together, as seems to be the usual of late, Bernard was able to hold his own against his opponents, but they proved simply too much for Tomko, completely overwhelming them and Akebono crushed him with a splash for the three count, capping an easy night for the Supernova and the Sumo. After the match, Bernard showed signs of discontent with his partner, simply leaving him lying in the ring, storming to the back in a foul mood and declining his post match interview.

The youngest member of the Nagata LOCK office, Yujiro, teamed with his new mentor, Nagata for the the first time today, the two facind a super-strong test in their first match together, in the shape of IWGP Provisional Tag Team champions, Manabu Nakanishi and Takao Omori. Nagata directed Yujiro to start the match against the power fighter, Nakanishi, and not surprisingly, Yujiro was completely overwhelmed, simply having no answer to Nakanishi's towering strength. Yujiro was beaten ragged for the entire match, Nagata simply a spectator, and quite a happy one at that, grinning throughout Yujiro's beating, which was mercifully ended just short of the ten minute mark with the Washington Jouyaku. After the match, Nagata shook hands with Real Wild Child and endorsed them as New Japan's true Tag Team champions, he also told Yujiro to thank them for the lesson they had given them, saying that this will have toughened him for the rest of the G2 tournament, but the barely concious Yujiro was only able to mumble a few incoherent words as he was taken from the ring by the attendents.

After CTU dominated the opening day of the tour, and the Sekigun hit back on the second, many saw today's six man tag as the rubber match in this small early series of matches. With Milano seemingly now aligned with CTU, or at least against the regular army, he was a target for the regulat armies wrath, especially Kanemoto, who punished Milano with some vicious strikes, forcing the tag out to Liger, who also found himself beaten back. In the end, it was Minoru who was able to go toe to toe with the IWGP Junior champion, but only after some heelish tactics by Liger gave Minoru an opening to expolit. From there, CTU (plus Milano) were able to control the match, cutting Samurai off from his partners and repeatedly double teaming him, Milano showing good chemistry with his new allies. Eventually Samurai was able to fight his way back and tag out to Tiger Mask, but it was to no avail as the time limit expired before either team could capture a decisive fall, leaving the junior war unresolved and delicately balanced.

1. G2 U30 Climax - Block B: Naofumi Yamamoto versus Daisuke Sekimoto went to a draw (20:00) when the time limit expired.

2. G2 U30 Climax - Block A: Ryuoji Sai defeated Takashi Uwano (7:37) with a Sky Kick.

3. G2 U30 Climax - Block A: Tomohiro Ishii defeated Mitsuhide Hirasawa (6:35) with a powerbomb.

4. G2 U30 Climax - Block B: Toru Yano defeated Taichi Ishikari (7:40) with a Crab Hold.

5. Jushin Thunder Liger, Minoru and Milano Collection AT versus Koji Kanemoto, Tiger Mask and El Samurai went to a draw (20:00) when the time limit expired.

6. Real Wild Child defeated Yuji Nagata and Yujiro (9:46) when Omori pinned Yujiro after the Washington Jouyaku.

7. Shinsuke Nakamura and Akebono defeated Giant Bernard and Travis Tomko (9:37) when Akebono defeated Tomko with a vertical splash.

8. Masahiro Chono, Hiroyoshi Tenzan and Togi Makabe defeated Riki Choshu, Hiroshi Tanahashi and Satoshi Kojima (16:50) when Chono defeated Kojima with a FTS.

New Japan's regular army struck a blow against BLACK REBORN today, with luminaries such as IWGP champion Hiroshi Tanahashi today and Shinsuke Nakamura tomorrow being drawn into battle against BR, it appears as though the old day of New Japan vs Chono-gun are back and in full force. Tanahashi teamed with Chono's current foes, Riki Choshu and the team of Real Wild Child to defeat BR's heavyweight foursome, Tanahashi leading by example and pinning generation rival, Yano with a Dragon Suplex Hold. The match was a understandably intense affair, both teams thrwoing everything at each other as they both struggle to gain an early advantage in this burgeoning war. Choshu was once again on fire, being practically untouchable bar the clever heel tactics of Chono, using his brains to overcome Choshu's brawn and stop 'Power Hall' in his tracks. Also, Nakanishi and Omori and their next challengers, Yano and Ishii, bickered and fought at ringside at intermittant intervals, their rivalry also beginning to heat up as their title match on 10/22 draws near. Even after the match had finished, the battle did not let up, all eight men brawling around the ring, even Junior BR member, Milano making his presence felt before the combatants were separated, with much difficulty, by almost the entire New Japan lockerroom as the usual ring attendents were overrun.

The the semi main event, teacher Nagata teamed with his pupils, Yamamoto and Yujiro for the first time in trios competition, unfortunately for them, it was not a winning debut as they faced the strong trio of Nakamura, Kojima and Akebono. The power of Nakamura and Kojima and the sheer size of Akebono was too much for the young duo, although Nagata continued his fine form, but was overmatched, almost having to take his three opponents on by himself, eventually this proved too much, even for the white hot Nagata and in the end, Yujiro fell to Kojima's lariat, his first win since his IWGP title challenge on the last tour. Kojima will look to continue this momentum as he and Tanahashi face Makabe and Koshinaka tomorrow in Nagasaki. After the match, Nagata was in a surprisingly good mood and praised the efforts of his two charges, telling them to do him proud in the G2 tournament and he has full faith in them to do so.

Gaijin power duo, Giant Bernard and Travis Tomko picked up a much needed win on this tour of tests, as they downed Makabe and Koshinaka, Bernard pinning Koshinaka with the Mt. Fuji Drop. It was a fairly simple match for the two, Bernard easily controlling his opponents and Tomko showing a refreshed vigour, so maybe Bernard's show of discontent yesterday struck a chord with Tomko. Makabe and Koshinaka will have to raise their game tomorrow as already mentioned, they take on the all star tag team of Tanahashi and Kojima and if they perform as they did today, they are sure to face an embarrasingly easy defeat.

After CTU dominance on 10/15, and a Sekigun clean sweep on 10/16, then the stalemate of 10/17, again nothing was settled today, as the all star tag battle between Kanemoto and Milano versus Liger and Minoru ended in a time limit draw, the match was said to be of a 'world class' standard by onlookers as all four men put on a Super Junior clinic for twenty minutes, the pace never letting up once, Milano holding his own against his more illustrious company. The real drama was after the match, as Milano firmly tied his colours to the CTU mast, sneak attacking partner Kanemoto and then joining in on a three on one beatdown of the IWGP Junior Heavyweight champion before the Junior Sekigun hit the ring, sending CTU to the outside. Kanemoto was carried to the back by his peers and surely will be looking for revenge on the 'Italian Superstar' tomorrow in the openweight tag match that they are scheduled for.

The newest Junior team on the block, NWA Jr. champion Tiger Mask and the man he has seemingly taken under his wing, Irishman Prince Devitt, gained their first victory as a team, as they were victorious against the team of El Samurai and Wataru Inoue, Tiger Mask pinning Samurai with his patented Tiger Suplex Hold. Devitt continues to impress the New Japan fans and has shown tremendous growth in the relatively short time he has being with the company. Devitt acknowledged this today, thanking the fans in passable Japanese (with some help from Tiger Mask).

G2 U30 entrants Ryuoji Sai and Taichi Ishikari teamed up today as they took on IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team champions, Jado and Gedo. It was a lesson in tag team wrestling for the 'outside' duo as Jado and Gedo fully controlled their opponents with some slick tag team offence and isolated Ishikari especially, Gedo eventually pinning the youngster with his Superfly splash for a routine win. Jado looked fit and healthly after his injury problems and didn't seem to be showing any signs of ring rust, and will be sure to boost the CTU cause with his return. Tomorrow the CTU duo participate in another openweight tag match against two youngsters as they face the Nagata LOCK tandem of Yamamoto and Yujiro, in which is sure to be a big test for the youngsters.

1. Jado and Gedo defeated Ryuoji Sai and Taichi Ishikari (6:39) when Gedo defeated Ishikari with a Superfly Splash.

2. Tiger Mask and Prince Devitt defeated El Samurai and Wataru Inoue (11:46) when Tiger Mask defeated Samurai with a Tiger Suplex Hold.

3. Koji Kanemoto and Milano Collection AT versus Jushin Thunder Liger and Minoru (20:00) when the time limit expired.

4. Giant Bernard and Travis Tomko defeated Togi Makabe and Shiro Koshinaka (13:19) when Bernard defeated Koshinaka with a Mt. Fuji Drop.

5. Satoshi Kojima, Akebono and Shinsuke Nakamura defeated Yuji Nagata, Naofumi Yamamoto and Yujiro (9:59) when Kojima defeated Yujiro with a Lariat.

6. Hiroshi Tanahashi, Manabu Nakanishi, Takao Omori and Riki Choshu defeated Masahiro Chono, Hiroyoshi Tenzan, Toru Yano and Tomohiro Ishii (17:40) when Tanahashi defeated Yano with a Dragon Suplex Hold.

Tanahashi's V3 defence set

Hiroshi Tanahashi faces the sternest test of his short IWGP reign, after seeing off the challenges of both G1 Climax victor, Manabu Nakanishi and former four-crown champion, Satoshi Kojima, for his V3 defence he will face this years G1 runner up, former IWGP Heavyweight champion, current Nagata LOCK office mentor and the man with the strongest claim to New Japan's 'ace' title, Yugi Nagata!

Nagata was on hand at the New Japan offices for the announcement, saying that he is happy to be able to challenge for the title, adding that he is pleased with his recent superb form and that his hard work is paying off. He said that to be truly considered as a 'proper' champion, Tanahashi needs to defeat him, the ace of New Japan. Nagata said so far, he has not been that impressed with Tanahashi, telling him he has been lucky in his first two defences, capitalising on his opponents mistakes to gain the victory. Nagata assured Tanahashi that he does not make any mistakes and Tanahashi will have to bring his absolute best to the match.

Nagata continued that he has taken this opportunity as he feels the coming threat of Chono needs to be taken seriously, and New Japan needs a strong champion, such as himself, to repel Chono's attacks and ultimately defeat him, and he is not sure Tanahashi is up to the job. Mr Saiyko also added that he would be honoured if injured Nagata LOCK compatriot, Takashi Iizuka accompany him to the ring on 11/6, the first show after Iizuka's twentieth anniversary celebrations and that it would be fitting for him to win the title in his good friends anniversary year.

Nagata concluded that the IWGP championship would be a nice first title for his new office, and was hoping that his pupils and Iizuka would take strength from his victory to propel themselves to glory as well.

After yesterdays loss, BLACK REBORN struck back in style in another big eight man tag team war. This was a war of attrition, the match lasting well over twenty minutes, before Tenzan was able to pin possible future tag rival and ZERO-ONE talent, Takao Omori, following up the TTD with a moonsault. The match was much like yesterdays as Chono and Choshu tore into each other, Yano and Ishii targetting Real Wild Child and Tenzan skirmishing with Nakamura instead of Tanahashi. Despite the defeat, both Choshu and Nakamura continued their recent imperious form, punishing Ishii badly in particular, causing the former Choshu loyalist to bleed heavily, much to Choshu delight, as he targeted Ishii's lacerated forehead with a devastating chair shot that put Ishii down at ringside for over five minutes, making the match a temporary four on three handicap. Again, the same as yesterday, a fierce brawl broke out between the teams, again Milano interjecting on behalf of his stablemates, although this time, he was countered by a fired up Koji Kanemoto, still furious after yesterdays sneak attack, the Junior 'ace' destroying Milano, beating him mercilessly and, uncharacteristically for Kanemoto, KOing Milano with a chair to the skull.

The all star tag team of Tanahashi and Kojima were victorious today, as most expected, but not as most predicted, Makabe getting himself disqualified inside ten minutes as both he and Koshinaka setting about their opponents with chairs in frustration at their lack of sucess in the match beforehand. Up until that point, Kojima and Tanahashi showed surprisingly good chemistry for two that have never tagged together before, including a beautiful Lariant/Dragon Suplex combo that the crowd thought was sure to have victim Makabe pinned till Koshinaka interjected to break the fall.

In an interesting openweight tag battle, Kanemoto had his first chance at revenge against Milano for yesterday's attack as he teamed with the in form Nagata to take on Milano and Akebono. Milano and Akebono entertained the crowd during thier entrance, Bono bringing his own invisible dog to the ring like Milano and wearing an XXXL version of Milano robe, complete with 2006 glasses for the sumo. However, once in the ring, the giant was all business as he looked to avenge his recent qucikfire singles loss to Nagata, unfortunately for Akebono, Nagata continued to be in untouchable form and controlled the match easily, Kanemoto having little to do as Nagata crushed all that was put before him, showing why he has been selected as Tanahashi's next challenger, eventally pinning Milano easily following a Wrist-Clutch Exploder Suplex. Kanemoto mocked a dazed Milano after the bell, telling him that he will pay for his deception, and adding that Milano was jealous because Kanemoto was more fashionable and better looking than him anyway. It was then the turn of IWGP champion, Hiroshi Tanahashi, who supposedly had the day off, to turn up in the ring, provoking Nagata with his title belt, telling Nagata that he is ready for his challenge and promised Nagata he will get '120% of Tanahashi' on 11/6. Nagata fired back that that still won't probably be enough to stop him capturing the IWGP title and becoming the undisputed ace.

After the stalemate so far on the tour, CTU were able to take a slender lead as CTU's big two, Liger and Minoru teamed with Black Tiger to defeat the trio of Tiger Mask, Prince Devitt and El Samurai, the latter again dropping a fall, this time submiiting to the Minoru Special, as Sammy's poor form continued.

It was not all good news today for CTU, as IWGP Jr. Tag Team champions slipped to a surprising loss against the heavyweight, but much younger and far less experienced team of Yamamoto and Yujiro. This was a well-received match by the fans, as the pure desire and will to win of the Nagata LOCK team combatted the slick teamwork and almost telepathic chemistry of Jado and Gedo. The match was mainly controlled by Jado and Gedo, as they isolated Yujiro and looked well on the way to victory, before Yujiro was able to fight back and tag out Yamamoto, who was extremely fired up, having spent most the match watching his partner get severly beaten. Yamamoto showed the skills he has learnt mixing it up with the more established heavyweights in recent times, taking it to the juniors and taking a major scalp, pinning the newly returned Jado with his Backdrop Suplex Hold. After the match, both Yamamoto and Yujiro were overcome and thanked the fans sobbingly, this then brought out teacher Nagata, who said that the two had proven to him and themselves that they can come back and win big matches, now use what they have learnt to battle each other for the U30 title in the G2 Climax final.

In young lion action, Taichi Ishikari picked up his first win on New Japan soil, as he teamed with the yet agains impressive Daisuke Sekimoto to defeat Hirasawa and Z1 representative, Ryuoji Sai, Ishikari submitting Hirasawa with the Crab Hold, in a result that doesn't bode well for the New Japan youngster, as he looks to bounce back from his opening tournament loss to Ishii.

1. Daisuke Sekimoto and Taichi Ishikari defeated Mitsuhide Hirasawa and Ryuoji Sai (7:03) when Ishikari defeated Hirasawa with a Crab Hold.

2. Naofumi Yamamoto and Yujiro defeated Jado and Gedo (10:49) when Yamamoto defeated Jado with a Backdrop Suplex.

3. Jushin Thunder Liger, Minoru and Black Tiger defeated Tiger Mask, Prince Devitt and El Samurai (11:49) when Minoru defeated Samurai with the Minoru Special.

4. Yuji Nagata and Koji Kanemoto defeated Akebono and Milano Collection AT (10:49) when Nagata defeated Milano with a Wrist-Clutch Exploder.

5. Satoshi Kojima and Hiroshi Tanahashi defeated Togi Makabe and Shiro Koshinaka (9:22) when Makabe was DQed.

6. Masahiro Chono, Hiroyoshi Tenzan, Toru Yano and Tomohiro Ishii defeated Riki Choshu, Shinsuke Nakamura, Manabu Nakanishi and Takao Omori (22:41) when Tenzan defeated Omori with a Moonsault Press.
