Most Underated Movie Role/ Character

Was watching one of my favorite movies yet again:

THE ROCK starring Sean Connery and Nicholas Cage

It got me thinking as it usually does....

ED HARRIS as Brigadier General Hummel has got to be the role of his career!!

Playing a well respected Marine commandeer, having grown tired of losing people under his command... and the truth not being told about how they died, He decides to take hostages (passively) and threatening to blow San Fran off the face of the Earth... just to get the Gov't's attention and the respect he believes his fallen men deserve.

SO who do you think has played the role of their career and doesn't seem to get the accolades that they deserve?

Ryan Phillippe in Crash.

He was brilliant in it, but seems to be eclipsed by the bigger names.

Not necessarily best of his career or anything, but a really under-rated performance is Tom Waits as Renfield in Bram Stoker's Dracula...he plays him absolutely perfectly; I'm a big Waits fanboy, so I'm biased here, but I think he's one of the better supporting actors out there.
