The Anime Thread

Don't get me wrong, there are some writers who can actually do some damn good fanfiction pieces that feel like they could easily have came from the story itself. However, they are so few and far between, that it's sometimes hard to find them among all the shoddy works like "TRIGUN HIGHSCHOOLZ" and "Spike Spiegal is a renegade vampire...", et all.

Plus, now that fanfiction.net has a "Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann" section under its anime stories, you just KNOW it's spread like a virus over there, too.

Funny, DearS was the show that made me bring up harem anime to begin with last week. I'm borrowing it from my girlfriend. She enjoyed it, she said I'd probably enjoy it. I've seen one episode. She was wrong. It's not horribly bad, it's just not particularly good. I'm gonna try to get through the first disc before I come to a conclusion, though.

I also loathe 99% of fanfiction. I especially loathe the worst form of fanfiction: The kind where the author inserts their 'original character', who is almost always an idealized version of themselves. My girlfriend's friend is one of these people, she's also a big fan of telling people about what shitty(usually pornographic) fanfiction she's recently read. I hate her.

Fanfiction is hilariously painful 9 times out of 10. The sheer amounts of shit like Cloud Strife x Vincent Valentine you can find is just.. mind-shattering.

You think that's bad? Someone once linked me to a Yuffie x Red XIII

Meh, doesn't shock me. I've seen some bad things before. Once you happen to glance at a fanfiction that involved the "alone time" Aang has with Appa and Momo, your mind sort-of goes numb and you stop thinking things are so bad you'd like to cry. No, instead, you're just an empty shell, shaking your head at the sad, sad state that the author is in, and wishing you knew their home address so that you might be able to put them out of their misery.

I have no idea what segment of the audience the ultra-femine guys pander to, and probably don't even want to know.

Women. Well, some of them.

Although since the majority of the plot is aimed at men anyway, presumably the alien men are ultra-feminine in order to negate any possible threat they might pose to the main male character's role.

What's more, there is a disturbingly large number of men into futanari (if you don't know what that means, you're better off not looking it up: one thing, it's more extreme then just "men looking like women") that find appeal in these feminine looking men, going as far as even having the men get confused as women, or integrating with them and hiding the fact that they're male or, in some cases, being completely oblivious to the fact that they're male, as they were actually raised as though they were female.

It's... quite bizarre. But, hey, whatever tickles their fancy I suppose :\

I much prefer stok's reason as to why, as it gives you a bit of faith behind the psychological reasoning behind the fandom who they're appealing to. Sadly, that's not the only reason why x_o

So, Elfen Lied, didn't have subs....but I watched the first few minutes and I could tell it was all about tits and gore.

So I decided to check out Grenadier, the first 3 episodes. It's...decent. The "plot twist" was predictable. It's not bad, but it's not very good. I'll finish it anyways, since I'm already done 1/4th of the series.

You, sir, are an idiot.

...I mean that in the most respectful way possible. :shifty:
