Why is everything in the future blue?

In films and TV, why do 'futuristic' films like I-Robot and Minority Report rely so heavilly on blue, clear and dark colours/shades? I want to see some reds! Some vibrant green!

Because the future, like the colour blue, is COLD AND HEARTLESS.

The robots' lights turned red in I-Robot. As if the whole workers rising up/computer wanting to take away humanity's freedom 'for their own good' wasn't "rawr, Communists!" enough without the added colour-coding.

It's because they change from the "real" colour of brown and change to blue on a whim
