The top music videos

It flashed into my mind to run a top whatever list but it probably isn't worth doing. It'd be like running a favourite song list which would have a thousand songs with one vote and would suck.

So why not list your ten (or so) music videos that you rate as your favourite ever, add a youtube link maybe and say why they're so great....

"Windowlicker" by Aphex Twin

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=1P3Wc-37pC4

Ten glorious minutes of musical and video genius in happy marriage. This music video was actually made available to buy and joyfully rips on the staples of rap music with Aphex Twin's own classic take (read women with his gurning face, trippy sequences and the like)...Oh and it's Chris Cunningham.

"All Is Full Of Love" by Bjork

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=EjAoBKagWQA

Robot love. It's clean, white, spartan. Bjork's face on a robot's body as the robot is built, put together. Human emotions of love and loss mix with the utterly humanly concept of artificial life forms. It's beautiful and slightly disconcerting...And it's Chris Cunningham.

"Come On My Selector" by Squarepusher

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=KQq0zVIF6SQ

Another Chris Cunningham (seeing a pattern here) that fits like a glove to the drum n bass soundtrack. It's dark, weird, a bit trippy and kinda uncomfortable....So Chris Cunningham then. It uses the well-known equation of creepy kid + weird science + mental asylum + humour.

"Bachelorette" by Bjork

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=x5nNfbTS6N4

It's a Michel Gondry entry and Bjork's second. Bachelorette tells the story of a woman (Bjork) who finds a book in a forest, picks it up and it starts to write itself, leading her on an adventure which leads to her selling the rights, making a play and having a whirlwind romance....Which is then made into a play about her finding the book, selling the rights, making a play, the whirlwind romance...Which is then made into a play...etc etc. Each time the quality of the play declines and it becomes a play within a play in a very smart and whimsical video.

"Rabbit In Your Headlights" by UNKLE

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Z3ClCwcCvdQ

So what's so great about a crazy old man marching down a tunnel muttering to himself and being hit by cars? Well, lots of things...And then the end is just...Wow...The music builds, mellows out and bam. Groovy.

"Teardrop" by Massive Attack

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=fG8eQBSp9Ao

It won a lot of awards, it's not trendy to like it but so what, I think this video is utterly amazing and the song is a thing of beauty. Yeah the baby looks a bit weird but so what.

"Smack My Bitch Up" by The Prodigy

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=csHxaPrdkyc

Take that political correctness whinging wannabes. It also stands up as a rather groovy video by itself. Load of fun too...And it also makes you go back over the video again when you see the ending. It got banned.

"Park Life" by Blur

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=bKCoBt43HWE

Colourful, funny, tongue-in-cheek and totally of the era. It completed the circle from camp and stupid back around to cool again.

"Rocket" by Polysics

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=nzJ-Q94Fc9I

My flavour of the month pick. I just like it's judderyness. Mmmm juddery.

"Glosoli" by Sigur Ros

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=doc1eqstMQQ

Huzzah for Sigur Ros. My favourite video is probably this one though there's a few beauties from the Icelandic bunch. Old folk playing practical jokes, kids in a post-apocalyptic world, a kid swimming around being chased by a giant squid....We'll forget the one about the Downs Syndrome guys dancing around.

Anyway, Glosoli is best - Kids running around, groovy. Total tune too.

I see your Rabbit in your Headlights (which in all fairness is a quality video), and raise you one Afrika Shox by Leftfield. Getting hit by shit and smashing into pieces > *

I'll also link the

(which I got to see thanks to ApSham), although the awesomeness may not be understood by many. Basically, the two bands released an EP in which they covered each others songs, in this video, they each perform the accompanying videos only in dancey theatre styley.

Strangely that video was on a PS1 demo that came with the magazine many, many moons ago.

That Radiohead one where people lie in the streets.

"Understanding" - Candlebox

Gotta love the underwater shots.
