Well as this game has been boring ever since the Swiss hit the woodwork i have been pondering in regards to last nights wrestling match between Portugal and Holland what would happen if that game, or any World Cup knockout game for that matter is abbandoned?

I would hardly say we were in any real danger aside from Terry's mistake in the first half. What is a good performance? Having all our players step over and back heel their way to a goal? We were pretty much in control the whole match and seemed a lot more organised than both our group matches collectively and Ecaudor. The passing and movement from everybody was great and we created many chances, the only thing we couldn't do was finish them off, but at least we were keeping the ball down their end and creating chances and putting them under lots of pressure. Rooney played excellent as did Gerrard and Carrick. I dont quite get the hate for Beckham for this game. Despite feeling ill throughout the entire game he seemed to be ok, making some cruical tackles and run backs, not mentioning his great goal. Sure we could keep saying that we wont win the Cup if we play like we did in the last game, but everybody has been saying that since our first game against Paraguay, and we have improved only slightly over each passing game yet we still walk away with the result. Yes we may have to 'step up' our game when we face Argentina or Portugal, but everybody said that about Ecaudor, and we did, and we won.

Pundits have to be Ian Wright and Alan Shearer. Hearing Ian Wright laugh at the goal France let in against South Korea was histerical. Martin O'Niel i used to like but now it seems like he's always disagreeing and when it comes to a point of discussion he just goes 'Im not going to argue with you'. Commentary wise it has to be Motson. I don't care how old, or how repetitive he is, its just like the J.R in the WWE situation. You don't realise how good he is until he's gone. I'd LOVE to hear Motson on commentary if England make it to the final.

I guess i jinxed it. A great first half for England, one of the best in a long time. Shame about Owen going down so early, hopefully it's nothing serious. Rooney pretty much did everything you could want from him without a goal and Crouch was meh. Joe Cole was solid in the 1st half, from that little back heel nutmeg to Ashley Cole to his goal which seemed destined to miss. The second half, yeah, its well documentated here so i wont repeat. But as for our defence, well they actually made more mistakes than what i was originally complaining about. It was painfully agonizing to watch Robinson, yet again, it seems hes become nothing more than a David James wannabe. Campbell did ok, imo, until the end with the dreadful second Sweden Goal. And damn, who was i to question putting Gerrard on for Rooney he saved us from going a goal down and put us a goal up. Fuck all those haters who say he doesnt get it done for England!

Inevitable loss to Germany? bollocks, anyone would think they've played amazingly good football so far, they haven't, if we wanna win the world cup we can't hope to avoid the 'big' teams and right now I wouldn't say Germany were that good of a team. Lampard in defensive mid? I think someone got the wrong end of the stick, plus having a DM infront of the defence hardly means the game can't be attacking, there are plenty of formations that are attacking but include a DM behind the actual midfield. Sure Germany isnt a definite superpower yet but their performance has been miles ahead of England's. I'll admit their defence has been a bit shabby in the first couple of games, but seeing as we've been saved from amature mistakes by either Robinson or a great clearence from Terry proves that when we step up to face a bigger and better team, the defence needs to step up aswell. Not to mention the potential crowd support that germany have which usually gives a boost to any team.

And to all the people who claim that England are going to play attackively look no further than Sven's super idea of the Diamond midfield tactic where he sits a midfielder right infront of the defense. What makes it worse is that ive heard they are playing Lampard in the Defensive midfield position, meaning Hargreves would be playing the link to Rooney. God i hope that was only a rumour.
