  1. Just read NFL QB Mafia again. Whadda game. Not sure there are many better examples of EWB town play. Particularly when I don't think a single scum player actually made a serious mistake throughout. Props to Josh for investigating scum 15 days in a row.

EDIT: And it also shows how the non-Traditional aspects of mafia can be just as analytical. Adding powers doesn't always dilute the logic present in a Traditional game and it doesn't just add chaos. Pulling apart a 'he claimed roleblocker/she claimed tracker/the other guy claimed tracker too' mess is sometimes just as satisfying as catching someone out with words.

  2. Even if they technically go into adminstration, I could see them (rightly or wrongly) using the West Ham case as precident not to deduct points. The Premier League doesn't want to risk Liverpool's relegation and losing their global fanbase from their league's broadcasting market next year, after all.

They aren't really similar offences, though. A better comparison would be Southampton, who were docked points despite the fact that the holding company (and not the club itself) went into administration.

  3. HttK, do you use L1 at all to send players around the man on the ball on a forward run? It works wonders sometimes. As well as that, hold L1 whilst passing and that player will also run forward into space. Hope that helps!

Yeah, the L1 pass - the one-two - is really good for attacking play. If you have the ball with a striker just outside the penalty area use the one-two to make a small lateral pass to the other striker, then play a ball back to the first guy when he's made it past the defender between the two. Should be enough to get a first time shot away or take a touch in the box and finish.

  4. Just concentrate on your first touch and your passing. Don't bother about crossing, through balls or anything like that until you can comfortably move the ball through midfield. The direction of your first touch is one of the most important things in determining whether you can keep possession of the ball. Don't let your eyes wander up the pitch - you'll most often lose the ball because you're so desperate to get up the pitch you play silly passes and try and take that extra run step that fucks you.

  5. What?

Isn't that like saying if you're town you don't want to look really townie because the scum might off you?

If I'm town and I look really townie it's because I've done a good job playing the game and helping my side, so I can naturally accept that the mafia want to kill me.

If I'm scum and I've engineered a situation where I look townie, I've hoodwinked the town but it might be useless.

I think this affects scum play in big games quite a lot. It contributes to the feeling that scum players have to lurk a bit more. I also think that 'allowing' scum players to make gambits to look townie potentially adds some interesting plays.

  6. In retrospect, the whole New Anfield fiasco probably gave a lot of clues about the nature of their ownership. Surely even the filthiest, most money-grubbing profiteer would be able to see that the best way to make money from LFC is with a new stadium? Arsenal's model in the hands of a less conservative board would be the perfect way to wring money from the club. When it became obvious New Anfield wasn't happening their image went from money-grubbing profiteers to skint money-grubbing profiteers. Never a good thing.

  7. DPS is going to be a solid player, he just reminds me of when I started and I took over games and annoyed people by being incredibly overbearing. Less is more sometimes.

    Aw shucks.

I'm trying for less-is-more. Trust me, this is tame compared to some examples of Drakery in my past. I like to ramble.

I did this too. It seems to get harder and harder to play that role, though. I dunno whether it's because your arguments become predictable, or because you increasingly just need to avoid suspicion. I got particularly bad at playing scum at one point because I was just desperately trying to avoid getting investigated, so I didn't play my usual townie game of leading discussion.

  8. I really hate Anime or Ruki's would be good. Maybe we can bribe Split into making his game 15 or less? Also, RW said he'd make us both bulletproof in his next game so that could be fun.

Don't have to like anime to have fun. All flavour and such.

I assumed it would be sourcewank. I don't even really like flavour all that much. Basically what I'm saying is "I'll play if you make me bulletproof."

I think FOS is in the same boat as lylo. I like the concept, I just hate the word. Yes, you can just type 'I don't trust (someone)' but then you can do that multiple times in different phrasings. If you go around throwing out FOS on everyone it becomes pretty obvious, so people moderate their use of it.

Also, just wanted to say something in this thread even though it seems pretty shitty that I've quoted from a game in progress:

I'm happy to accept that I'm going to be playing mafia differently now because of my work habits and generally because I'm not the miserable bastard I was a few years ago. So be it.

That's just how it is. My life is different and I'm not going to be able to play as actively as I did before. This is honestly not a way of saying 'if I act strangely, don't vote for me' because that's perfectly fair. I think after I get the in-jokes out of my system my play style will be back to normal, but my schedule won't be.

  9. Got the game thigs morning but only had time for a couple of quick matches in the Manager Mode I'm gonna start with. Seems easier to play than the demo, which is god news. Scored 3 goals and conceded none playing on World Class, so doing pretty well.

Definitely up for an EWB club if anyone sets one up.
