  1. Terrible of a program as they may be, I actually dig UConn’s uniforms this year. They kept it simple, and I appreciate that. Got rid of the unnecessary red that they had in their uniforms last year.
  2. There were rumors back in March that the Steelers had a better offer on the table from the Pats but they, understandably, didn’t want to trade him to an AFC contender. That’s probably the moment Brown decided he’d force his way to the Pats. What he wasn’t counting on was the Raiders putting up with his erratic behavior for two months before finally releasing him. If it were up to Brown, he’d have been released early enough to suit up and play the Steelers tonight. And frankly, he was taking a gamble that they didn’t just suspend him and keep him on the reserve/suspended list all year.
  3. Gruden should take Brown to court for an illegal wiretap.
  4. 3rd and 17, LSU picks up a touchdown that likely knock out blow. Burrow torching Texas for 450+ yards. How on earth can an entire conference be this bad defensively? Do they just not even bother recruiting defensive players?
  5. The league loves this shit and they will do zero investigation. Shit’s rigged.
  6. This is a far more talented team on both sides of the ball than even the 2007 Patriots. It will be a massive shock if they don’t go the distance.
  7. Really fun Nebraska/Colorado game. Going to overtime.
  8. I might actually root for them to go 19-0 if it’s the only way Brady and Belichick will finally retire and fuck off.
  9. I can’t be bothered with the NBA because before the season even starts you can narrow the list of teams that can actually win a title down to a very small list, sometimes only one or two teams. A surprise like the Raptors is very much a rarity. And now that’s getting to be how I feel about the NFL. What’s the point in getting emotionally invested in a season if the end result is this much of a foregone conclusion?
  10. Calling it now: if the Pats are still undefeated in mid-November, Gronk is coming back for the run at 19-0.
  11. Vegas may as well put out Patriots vs the field odds. The season is decided.
  12. I burst out laughing when I got a blip on my phone that Diaz gave up another home run and blew another save. I don’t see how the Mets can bring him back next year. I really don’t. He was great in Seattle where the entire city is just waiting for the Seahawks season to start, but New York is a different beast. Some guys just plum can’t take the pressure of a rabid fanbase and near constant media scrutiny. They won’t get anything of value for him despite him still being young and cost controlled for a long time, but they need to move him anyway. BVW isn’t going to want to do it, but it’s the best thing for the team. Admit the blockbuster trade was a mistake and move on.
  13. The Pats always take chances on troubled players. They generally always have a team good enough to contend for a Super Bowl without bringing any of these players in, so they really aren’t risking anything by trying to get that much better. If the player gets to the point of being too much of a headache (see Moss in 2010, Haynesworth in 2011), off they go and they keep plugging along without issue.
  14. Kyriq McDonald of Cincinnati seemed to have a seizure on the field. Apparently happened to him last year when he was playing for Alabama as well.
  15. When he signs with the Patriots, you may as well just cancel the season.
  16. Antonio Brown doesn’t want to play football. It’s obvious.
  17. Former Cardinals player Chris Duncan has passed away at 38 from brain cancer.
  18. After a public showdown in which it appears Gruden and the team captains are siding with Brown because they need him...I have no doubt that Mayock will be back on NFL Network by January.
  19. This should probably quiet the “2 preseason games, 18 regular season games” crowd.
  20. If this game is any indication, Week 1 is going to look like glorified preseason. Coaches understandably don’t want to risk anybody in August, but without any game reps these offenses are going to look rusty.
  21. Future headline: Patriots acquire Antonio Brown for a sixth round pick.
  22. Seems clear at this point that Brown just doesn’t want to play.
