  1. He was really good last year and it seemed like he’d end up playing into his 50s. Amazing how quickly kickers can drop off. Regardless, I don’t say this lightly about a kicker but he should be headed straight into Canton in 2025.
  2. Some more perspective on how bleak the outlook for this Giants team is: my dad is a diehard who hasn’t willingly missed a regular season game in probably close to 40 years. When he misses a game it’s usually due to travel or work, and even then he tries to get out to a sports bar if he can. He’s seen plenty of bad teams in his time, but watching Giants football is one of his biggest passions and with only 16 games a year he does everything he can to watch them all. He’s said that if the weather is as nice next Sunday as it is today, he’s going to do something outside. His 60th birthday is a few months away and spending 3 hours on a beautiful day watching a team this bad no longer feels like something he can justify.
  3. Doug Marrone goes for the win instead of the tie on the road which I can understand since it’s a rookie QB on the road and they’ve done very little offensively. But that was a brutal play call.
  4. Time to play some halftime tunes.
  5. 98 yard drive for the Bills. I really don’t see how James Bettcher avoids getting fired this week.
  6. It’s not even a game and a half into the season and I’m already willing to say this is the worst Giants defense I’ve seen in 22 years of supporting this team.
  7. NFL’s TV scheduling remains a joke. Second week of the season and they’ve loaded 10 games in the early slot and only three in the late slot.
  8. Somehow, you just knew Kentucky was going to miss that field goal.
  9. My favorite part of these early season blowouts is that they really paint a picture of how loaded the big programs are that their opponents can’t score one point even against second and third stringers.
  10. Pittsburgh down 7 with five minutes to play...has first and goal from the Penn State two yard line. Fail to score. Instead of going for the tying score they instead attempt a 19 yard FG which then doinks off the upright. Ugh. Just a gutless sequence all around.
  11. The Pats going 19-0 and Brady/Belichick STILL not retiring is a nightmare scenario. That said Brady probably wants to outlast Brees so as to guarantee he can pass the TD and yardage records.
  12. Pats fans with Brown not suspended: "Bullshit that people think he should be suspended! Everyone is out to get us!" Pats fans if Brown had been suspended: "Bullshit! League trying to screw us over yet again!" I continue to remain convinced that Pats fans feel the need to create an us vs. the world narrative every year because it's the only way they can remain interested in the formality that is the regular season.
  13. Carolina starts 0-2 with both losses being at home. 4th and 1 on the goal line and the Panthers attempt a gimmick wildcat play that fails. Riverboat Ron is getting canned this year.
  14. Meacon will be puking like McNabb in the Super Bowl.
  15. Only five from that list are making it. NFL is doing a one-time expansion of the HOF class to 20 members to celebrate 100 years, but they didn’t increase the number of modern era inductees. It’ll be ten seniors, three contributors, and two coaches. A guy like Joe Jacoby who was snubbed as a finalist for years and years is now a senior so he’ll probably finally go in, and Don Coryell is so overdue absolutely must be one of the coaches. My guesses for the modern era: Isaac Bruce, Alan Faneca, Edgerrin James, Troy Polamalu, Patrick Willis
  16. Patrick Willis already being HOF eligible feels so weird. Dude retired so young.
  17. When it gets revealed that Demaryius Thomas was also carrying mono and he switched out water bottles with Sam.
  18. I figured the Wild Card races will be crowded and around 9-7 could get it done...figured the Jets could at least hang somewhere around 7-8 wins to keep it close. So glad I’m not one of the many cursed to be Mets AND Jets fans. I know the Giants have been a disaster for a while but at least they still rewarded me with Super Bowls in my lifetime.
  19. Sam Darnold who was sent home from practice yesterday with strep throat has now been diagnosed with mono. Out Monday and probably for multiple weeks. Also Le’Veon Bell’s getting an MRI for a shoulder injury and CJ Mosley is still injured. Given their early schedule, the Jets season seems like it’s already over.
  20. You can get a glimpse of how toxic a man’s views are when he immediately calls bullshit on a sexual assault allegation that has nothing to do with him.
  21. In what has become an annual tradition, MLB is once again banning the Mets from wearing first responder caps on 9/11. They’re allowed to wear them during batting practice but then an MLB rep goes around and confiscates them from all of the players and coaches. Strange hill Joe Torre continues to want to die on. He’s questioned about it every year and he compares it to the caps everyone wears on the 4th of July or other holidays that are observed leaguewide. Either every team has to do it or nobody can do it at all.
  22. Belichick also cut his news conference after less than four minutes since all of the questions were about Brown. His hatred for the press continues.
  23. Christian Yelich fractured his kneecap during tonight’s game. Done for the season and likely clinches the MVP for Cody Bellinger.
  24. Brown remains eligible to play because it’s a civil lawsuit, not a criminal one. And because it’s the NFL, nothing will happen to him.
