I honestly can't say why I'm such a sucker for world cup trivia. I'm barely interested in club football between tournamens.

This translates as "England wins on penalties (no joke) - quarter finals"

My biggest hope for the world cup was a Germany - England quater final match. I'm happy at least half of it came true.

Admit it, England, you only wanted to show off your shiny new goalkeeper. That's why you didn't play for more goals.

But seriously, what they showed today might be enough for Sweden, but surely not for Croatia or Brazil (or France).

I'll always envy England for the Three Lions song. That has to be the best football song ever made.

I don't get why this is a red card and Denmark got a yellow for the same thing.

This seems pretty open and I like both teams well enough, but I think I'm rooting for the Swiss, because they haven't been among the final 8 before.

I think Stefan Kuntz, the current U21 coach, would be the only obvious candiate.

Some will probably call for Klopp or Tuchel or some other big names, but I can't see those leaving their current occupations. Germany is probably too proud to consider a non-German as coach (maybe an Austrian or Swiss, if desperate).

But then again both Völler and Klinsmann/Löw came out of nowhere the two last times, so who knows?

I really don't know. It might not be a good thing, but I am okay with it. I don't like hot shoting coaches.

He has been nothing but solid for the longest time since he took over in 2006, only starting this year he seemed out of ideas and completely failed to adapt to a new generation of players. He should get a chance to learn from the current mistakes (even if they lead to a 'historic' disaster), but people will expect results soon (the first few games for the Euro 2020 qualifiaction have to go really well).

Löw just announced he will stay on as Germany's coach after all.

I could have watched 30 minutes more of that.

Hope Belgium can pull sonething like that off against Brasil too
