  1. So Death Grips tweeted last night that they were putting out their album later tonight for free after apparently being peeved that the label decided to push it back to "later next year" after they made an ARG and teasers promising the album on October 23rd.

Oh also, the album's cover is an erect penis with NO LOVE DEEP WEB on it. I'll avoid posting that because I'm really uncertain how that works.

http://twitter.com/deathgripz has the album stream (or outright download). It's as wonderfully abrasive as I thought it would be.

I'm kind of going on who is tops in my playlist this year. Makes it a bit more interesting than to simply trumpet my personal all-time favorites all of the time.

  3. Well, to make up for that embarrassing bit from me, I'm curious if anybody's kind of went through Brows Held High's archives and watched the movies he's reviewed. I've already seen Antichrist (shudder) but I can think that 85% of the movies he reviews are movies I kind of want to watch just for the experience. (Probably excluding A Serbian Film and a few of the more 'shock for shock's sake' entries.)

  4. Also, for the first time I really liked a Maven of the Eventide video. She dialed back the "lol, I like vampires" shtick and actually gave commentary about a movie (Dracula 2000). It was pretty good.

She knows her stuff, I've watched a couple of her episodes. The only thing I do not like is how she dips in and out of that accent.

She's a lot like Nella, I find. I feel like they're charming presences just being themselves that when they adopt a character with less of that involved, they sort of lose what makes them fun to watch in the NChick videos.

Also of note, on TGWTG, there is a review of a Sting documentary about his Christianity by Diamanda Hagan. Her crossover co-partner? SPOONY.

  5. I decided to start an Insatiable Phil Simms meme after I realized how much of a douchebag he is in the game.

Guarantee that 88% of the plays in a regular Madden game are either "terrible defense" or "a really awful pass."

  6. I think it's because Bill Belichick isn't part of the Coach's Association which is what EA hold the license for. I remember hearing something like that before

Yeah, what he said. Belichick does that classic contrarian thing of not doing what everyone else does. Perhaps he's waiting for Bill Belichick's Footbrawl.

But yeah, maybe it's because I've had some truly gamekilling bugs in NCAA 13, but the small bugs with the Infinity Engine (which I frankly expected considering how goofy the same type of engine was in Backbreaker) are not ones that I'm overly angry with. It's not "suddenly my running back only has four frames of animation and goes terrifyingly slow on options" awful.

By the way, I saw on Twitter that a few folks were pissed that fantasy draft is gone this year. Did you guys overly miss it or does Ultimate Team sort of defeat its purpose?

  7. The Nostalgia Chick reviews Charlie's Angels (2000)

In which Lindsay Ellis talks about feminism and directly responds to people who creep on her in the comments.

Yeah, that episode was really awesome and clearly the outfits on Eliza and Nella kind of fit as a comment on some feedback she got on "her boobs in To Boldly Flee." You can see about that all on the Twitters, though. And the episode itself was really quite funny.

  8. Damn, this is good. The only thing I've found a little faulty is in preseason when the game's lack of signing backup kickers/punters makes for situations where a punt only goes maybe 10 yards. That's pretty much it. I feel like Madden's finally made the type of progression that got people excited when 2K's NBA series did the same thing. And fortunately, compared to this year's NCAA, Madden actually feels like a finished product. I'm pretty happy to have the game delivered on retail on Tuesday and I've really enjoyed what I've played. Glad to have the addictive Madden back instead of the "eh, it's okay" Madden.

British film director Tony Scott, known for such Hollywood blockbusters as "Top Gun," "Days of Thunder," "Beverly Hills Cop II" and "The Taking of Pelham 123," jumped to his death Sunday from the Vincent Thomas Bridge spanning San Pedro and Terminal Island, according to Los Angeles County coroner's officials.

Scott, 68, climbed a fence on the south side of the bridge's apex and leapt off "without hesitation" around 12:30 p.m., according to the Coroner's Department and port police.

A suicide note was found inside Scott's black Toyota Prius, which was parked on one of the eastbound lanes of the bridge, said U.S. Coast Guard Lt. Jennifer Osburn.

Scott directed Tom Cruise in "Top Gun," one of the highest-grossing

films of 1986, and worked with the actor again four years later on the hit "Days of Thunder," which also featured his third and current wife, actress Donna Scott. The couple have twin boys.

Known for his trademark red baseball cap, Scott also directed "Beverly Hills Cop II," starring Eddie Murphy, "Enemy of the State," starring Will Smith and Gene Hackman, and "The Taking of Pelham 123," starring Denzel Washington and John Travolta.

Scott and his older brother, producer Ridley Scott, were co-producers on the CBS dramas "NUMB3RS" and "The Good Wife." The pair recently wrapped "Coma," a four-hour, two-night medical thriller starring Ellen Burstyn set for release next month on A&E.

Officers with port police, the Los Angeles Police Department and California Highway Patrol joined city firefighters and the Coast Guard in searching the water for his body.

Cargo vessels moved at slow speeds through the east side of the Main Channel during the search, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey.

"It's a dolorous task and we're working to treat the deceased with the utmost dignity and respect," Humphrey said.

Authorities used sonar equipment to track the man in the port's murky waters and his body was recovered by a dive team around 4:30 p.m., Alva said. Scott's body was taken to a dock in Wilmington and turned over to the county coroner.

One lane of the eastbound side of the bridge was closed to traffic during the investigation.

Erected in 1963, the 6,060-foot bridge links San Pedro with Terminal Island and rises 185 feet at its highest point above the Main Channel of Los Angeles Harbor. Many have taken their lives by jumping from the span.

Dammit. Obviously, quite a few of his films are awesome and favorites of this board. Moreover, this is bizarre and sad to read. Going to have to track down The Last Boy Scout and watch that tonight in a doubleheader with The Raid: Redemption.

  10. As a fan of the lower card guys, the severe depletion of them in '13 is worrying. I'm sure they might be DLC, but this is still pretty glaring to not have ready for a finished product:

    http://wrestlechat.net/complete-list-of-current-wwe-superstar-who-were-left-off-of-the-wwe-13-video-game-roster/

WWE Diva’s Champ Layla, Natalya, Ryback, Alex Riley, Antonio Cesaro, Reks/Hawkins, Prime Time Players, Camacho, Drew McIntyre, Evan Bourne, Ezekiel Jackson, Hornswoggle, The Uso’s, Johnny Curtis, JTG, Kaitlyn, Mason Ryan, McGillicutty, Rosa Mendes, Tamina, Tensai, Trent Baretta, Tyson Kidd, William Regal, and Yoshi Tatsu

I'm going to guess the NXT arena will be swept away from '13 as well since virtually everyone that competed on Redemption is not in the full game.

  11. Lots of NFL Head Coach stuff has made it. So excited for this, the possible replay value is amazing.

Yeah, and hopefully without the 8,000 menus of NFL Head Coach, this will be well done. I think I've heard an interview that the guy who was behind the ideas around Head Coach is doing this one, but I imagine because it's Madden, he's getting a little more backing on making these ideas viable to the player.

  12. That looks tremendous. I'm sure we give that a year or so, and it'll prove to be as amazing an innovation for the series as franchise mode was back in Madden 99. Makes me want to buy the Sunday Ticket thing, too. Dammit.

  13. Oh! Have one for the love column. Sheriff Lamb and Dick Casablancas on Veronica Mars. While both are played with comic relief, they're just such wonderful dicks throughout the entire run of the show. Season 3 kind of fucked it up with Dick being a lovable jerk as opposed to just a jerk who became hilarious, but both characters are damn great and I cheer the hell out of them.

  14. Battleship - D

Apocalyptic first hour. Fucking awful for most of its runtime and the creatures look similarly awful. At least Jesse Plemons was in it, the action was nice, and something something PETER BERG FUCKING MAKE A FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS SERIES MOVIE ALREADY. He even did an FNL-style soccer scene! Also, death to all AC/DC soundtrack songs. It was great in like Maximum Overdrive and that one track from Iron Man, but it's a trope worth escaping for a long long time.

  15. So I'm planning on getting this, but I've heard the 360 version has been godawful in terms of freezing issues and the additions are hardly worth the trouble. Has anybody who has played the 360 version gotten a good idea on if there's any big issues in dynasty as of this week?

  16. The Piano - B+

Even if it kind of drags around the middle, still so damn good. Amazing how well they played off the piano motif for some haunting music, too. And they made HARVEY FUCKING KEITEL uber psycho of the century into a character that Holly Hunter could conceivably fall in love with and we don't feel danger for. Good shit.
