I don't know what's the right thread for this.

    We just started watching GLOW.

I'm sure this has been discussed previously in these boards but don't want to risk spoilers. We've only watched a couple episodes. Is it worth it? Is it really bad? Any controversies? Really bad takes on anything? Just to know if we should keep going as we usually only watch one show at a time.

Regarding this, we've finished the first season. Took a while because we went on holidays for a couple weeks.

I liked it a lot. Most importantly my girlfriend liked it. She loved the season finale.

I'm always afraid she won't like the wrestling related things I show her, because all my previous girlfriends felt I wasted too much time watching something as silly as pro wrestling - to be fair, they weren't wrong.

We've been together for 9 years now, and she has shown countless times that she actually enjoys watching it, maybe not the unhealthy amounts of wrestling related content I watch but still. She even bought a Rey Fenix t-shirt. Despite all of that I'm still afraid she won't like these things because none of my ex-girlfriends did.

Ok, I went very off-topic with this, but it's just that it really makes me happy that I can actually watch these things with my partner instead of always having to do it whenever they weren't around so as to not bother them.

    Looking forward to season 2!

  2. The avalanche are so good. I don't mean because they just beat the predators since that was predictable. They looked good throughout the season and since MacKinnon came back they look unstoppable.

MacKinnon obviously one of the very best in the league. Cale Makar is ridiculous. Rantanen, Landeskog, Kadri, Devon Toews are all really good. More guys like Burakovsky, Nichushkin, Erik Johnson, Kuemper back at the level he was before the pandemic with the coyotes, even guys like Byram even though he's s very young and hasn't played a full season yet or Lehkonen since he arrived have great shifts.

I can see them having some troubles with the best teams in the east but they'll be fresh the next few rounds if they keep this level and that would be an important factor if they get to the final. I don't think there's anyone in the west apart from Calgary that has a good enough D to stop their offensive power and they'll get less rest days. And that's assuming they even beat Dallas, which I still assume they will eventually, even if the stars are giving them a run for their money.

MVP is truly a regular season award as playoff liability Nikola Jokic wins his 2nd straight.

It is, though. It may not seem so because they take so long to hand the damn thing but it is what it is.

Now, unrelated to the quoted post above, personally I think Jokic had an excellent regular season. I haven't retroactively checked what happened during the season with more detail to say if he deserves it more as a whole than the other main candidates. Also, statistically, which like it or not matters a great deal in these awards, he was the 6th scorer (3 ppg behind) and passer in the league, unrivalled efficiency, 2nd best rebounder and with a very, very noticeable improvement n D. He was so important to the Nuggets in both ends this season, even more so, considering they were without Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr. Nuggets with or without him were 2 different teams. Obviously this can be said about most franchise players in the NBA, but in his case was more noticeable and I'd say a lot more than last season, and he already got the MVP then.

I understand people may be disappointed but I'm being fully honest, I thought there was absolutely no way, the mvp would end up in someone else's hands. I actually thought Giannis had a better shot at it then Embiid, based on the trophy voting history alone but I didn't think any of the 2 had a shot at it this season. All three had excellent seasons but I just "knew" who was getting this year MVPs.

We'd have stayed 2 extra nights (Friday and Saturday). I might be converting poorly, it was around $225 a night.

That's tough then. I was there last month for 10 days and it was much, much cheaper. Granted I don't think anything of note was happening at the time but still.

It's not surprising that all the cheapest hotels would be gone by now which would mean only the expensive options would be available but I guess even cheaper hotels have ridiculous prices that weekend.

As someone who will be in Paris up to that Friday, I can say prices were obscene to stay there before the Champions League final got moved due to Roland-Garros and the influx of people that brings. We looked at extending our stay and trying for tickets to the final if we could snag them at face value but extending our stay would cost about 400 EUR alone.

People are always going to resell tickets to sporting events, more or less regardless of the controls in place. But I do get a tad peeved at massive hotel chains upping their rates for the occasion.

How many more nights were these 400 euros for?

I think it is innovative for reasons that are not entirely obvious and potentially not all positive. I also acknowledge that other artists did some of the stuff.

    • Firstly, what is the theme of the album? The theme of the album is very meta-  it is Fatboy Slim. On numerous portions of the album, he is calling himself by name and referencing the album and songs within. There was a time period in the 90s where dance music still attempted to have narratives or grander themes above and beyond the music. Baby is really just all about Fatboy Slim, which is very indicative of modern day house music. It is so self-involved, but not in a cheeky way like Fatboy Slim.
    • Secondly, I think whereas Chemical Brothers / Daft Punk / Prodigy were interested in making big beat music was influenced by other genres but still sounded like big beat music, Fatboy Slim's album feels like a grab bag of styles and sounds. There is not a consistent stylistic thread through the whole album. I definitely see a lot of the early 00s electronic music being influenced by this, in particular the dance punk and electroclash genres.
    • Thirdly, the samples. Sampling has always been prevalent in music, but Fatboy Slim does it in a way that is both very obvious and yet harmonious with the message. Fatboy Slim also is a lot more playful with the samples - both in terms of what he uses, but also how he manipulates them. Fatboy Slim takes way more inspiration from the Beastie Boys or DJ Shadow than say Frankie Knuckles.

It feels you interpreted what I said as negative criticism. It really wasn't. I love Fatboy Slim and that album in particular. I just thought they weren't as innovative music wise when compared to the others I mentioned. I think at the very least prodigy are very versatile and were able to jump out of the rave scene into the mainstream (not as much as Fatboy slim whose pop hooks were undoubtedly catchier, I won't deny) and most importantly into the punk scene too. They're just different even though for the most part they use similar beats with different samples and arrangements. I also like the obvious influence of Crystal Method's slower songs on a lot of active trip hop bands, although the same can be said about the Chemical Brothers or Fatboy Slim, I suppose.

I can see Fatboy slim's influence on the dance punk genre, definitely. I wouldn't say as much about electroclash as they kind of existed simultaneously but I suppose these styles as every other are a mix of different influences and you can see this and that from previous generations on something new or even contemporary.

Anyway, this is definitely my go to style of electronic music. Even if I say I don't like something as much as something else I probably still like it a lot.

Btw, Daft Punk for me are different, that's why I didn't talk about them.

Fat Boy Slims You've Come Along Way Baby is groundbreaking and definitely a marker of modern electronic music.

While I really like that album and I do believe it was influential to many, many bands who followed, I wouldn't say it was as groundbreaking as others although I'll definitely say it helped loads bringing Big Beat into the mainstream. Mostly because the year before you had Prodigy releasing Fat of the Land, Chemical brother's Dig Your Own Hole and the Crystal Method releasing Vegas, a masterpiece in the genre. Late 90s/early 00s were great for Big Beat/Breakbeat and You've come a long way baby is obviously a big part of that but I don't think it was as innovative as the others I mentioned.

  8. I refuse to accept real Madrid as a Babyface. Sometimes you have to accept a heel vs heel main event.

I didn’t think Real Madrid would be going on a baby face run defeating all the monster heels to set up the final against the big bad but somehow here we are.

Playoffs are anxiety. I DON'T LIKE THIS. I DON'T LIKE CHEERING FOR A CURSED TEAM.

It's not an ideal matchup for the first round either. Having to play the lightning who ended worse than expected due to underperforming and kucherov's absence half of the season.

I do believe the leafs are really good this year but it's unfortunate they have to play the lightning in round 1. This is definitely not what I would expect at round 1 (maybe I would when the lightning were very good and the leafs weren't but not now).

  10. I've been waiting for one since MLB 2k11/12/13 can't remember which but it's been a long time.

NHL would be nice too but people have been releasing yearly updates on older versions every year so I'm ok with that.

I really hope someone's able to make any half decent MLB game though because I really can't enjoy 2013 rosters anymore.

Carlo Ancelotti is now the first manager to win all 5 of the "major" European leagues.

I know you use the term 5 major European leagues because it's common usage but I really dislike that "concept". The french league barely won anything. The dutch and portuguese leagues have a lot more European titles and plenty of other leagues have similar records if not better than the french. Yes, PSG have a ridiculous budget but I really don't see how they could ever be in the same conversation as Spain, England, Italy and Germany.

  12. I play in a different prediction league where it's 1p for guessing the winner, 3 for guessing the margin (in the sense that saying 2-1 when the score is 1-0 is a more accurate prediction than saying 5-0) and 5 for the exact result. Also you bet on every match.

However, I know you guys have been playing using this system for many years now, and I just joined and have no problem with the current system. I'd keep it since everyone seems happy with it.

  13. I suppose in 2021 they used the fake documents mentioned in the article I read. We'll see if FIFA and CONMEBOL do something with the new information or if they just let it slide. The one thing I'm sure is, even if they allow Ecuador to play in the World Cup, they won't allow Castillo.

  14. 9 minutes ago, damhausen said:

If that happens does Peru get in automatically and then Colombia goes to an intercontinental playoff?

As I said, I don't know any further details but that would be the logical thing to do.

If it's about Rinson López, he played for El Nacional (a club), not the the national team.

No. This is Byron Castillo who played 8 times during the qualifiers. Apparently the documents they used were fake. Paraguay's FA or whatever found Castillo's real birth documents. I don't know why Paraguay did all the work since their missing the world cup regardless, but still.

I followed this up by … losing in the Europa League final again. This time to Arsenal.

Both times the deep European run has left my squad falling apart in the league towards the latter stages and RB Salzburg romping away both times despite winning the initial league stage.

Won the Austrian Cup twice though, so yay?

That was a really fast season!

  16. Personally, I don't care about alternate attires either and plenty of caws come with more than one attire anyway but i would be bored to death from seeing the same people over and over again. I only got back to WWE2K, the PC version, because I found mods that allow me to have about 500 slots and among other things, also allow me to replace the extra 5 Rey Mysterio slots I don't need with people I don't have yet.

Plenty of people have complained about the 100 CAW limit though. Not just me. :P
