  1. As for Jason Kendall, he definitely passed his prime. In the AL, you need power from your catcher. The small ball type stuff doesn't work as well and its not as if Oakland has a ton of power. But considering what they gave up for him, its a good deal. But there are plenty of catchers better than him out there. But Oakland's run is done anyway.

  2. Watching the game reminded me of a question I had...does anyone know if there's a particular reason Jim Nantz and Greg Gumbel switched places this season? IMO, Gumbel and Simms make a much better announce team than Nantz and Simms.

    I hate Jim Nantz.

  3. NEW YORK -- An agreement is close to completion where retired Miami Dolphins running back Ricky Williams will serve a four-game suspension beginning next month and then be reinstated to the team by the NFL, according to parties close to the negotiations.

    Williams

"I am pleased with the National Football League's proposal," attorney David Cornwell told the Associated Press on Tuesday. "I think Ricky will be pleased, too."

The league said Tuesday an agreement has not been finalized.

"There is no deal," NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said. "There may be a proposal, but there's no agreement." Aiello added that the league and Williams' representatives have been in discussions "for some time."

Williams must approve the deal, which would require him to immediately submit to league drug testing and continue on a regular basis. The running back is required to serve a four-game suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy.

The deal would allow him to move from the retired list to the suspended list for the final four games of the schedule. After that, his contract with the Dolphins would be in force.

Still at issue is whether Williams has the desire to play pro football again. Now about a month into a 17-month course at the California College of Ayurveda in Grass Valley, Calif., studying holistic medicine., Williams told the San Francisco Chronicle, "I understand their [Cornwall and Williams' agent Leigh Steinberg] wishful thinking. It's easy math. If I play, it puts more money in their pocket."

Although he wouldn't rule out a return to football, he indicated the game was far from his mind.

"I loved playing football, but the reasons I loved football were just to feed my ego," Williams said. "And any time you feed your ego, it's a one-way street."

Williams, 27, retired during the summer, giving up the $5 million he would have earned this season, which would have been his sixth in the NFL, amid reports he faced the suspension for substance abuse.

The Dolphins' season pretty much was ruined by Williams' sudden retirement. The star runner was the focal point of Miami's offense and the Dolphins, also ravaged by injuries, are 1-9 without him. They will have their first losing season since 1988 and Dave Wannstedt resigned as coach earlier this month.

The team filed a lawsuit last month in federal court against Williams after an arbitrator ruled he owes the team more than $8.6 million for breaching his contract.

Williams rushed for 3,225 yards in two seasons with the Dolphins, including a league-leading 1,853 yards in 2002. They acquired the 1998 Heisman Trophy winner in a trade with New Orleans after the 2001 season.

Throughout his career, Williams has been plagued by strange behavior, including conducting interviews with his helmet on when he was with the Saints. He suffers from social-anxiety disorder and was a spokesman for an anti-depressant. He said marijuana helped him once he had to stop using the anti-depressant because it didn't agree with his diet.

Williams found laughable reports he retired because he wanted to continue smoking marijuana.

  4. Peyton Manning TD passes vs. Lion points. Ill go with Peyton

Edgerin James rushing yards vs. Lion total offense. Ill go with the Edge.

Marvin Harrison catches vs. Joey Harrington checking down to a 4th option 3 yards short of the 1st down. I take Joey Blue Skiez

Just some prop bets for Thursday. Continue with your thoughts

  5. What shocked me the most about the fight now that I've calmed down is that Rasheed Wallace wasn't involved in it. I would've expected him to jump up in the stands and start punching people with Jackson and Artest, but he was nowhere to be found, which saddened me, as I love it when Wallace goes crazy.

I think it would rock if Artest bought a ticket for the next Pistons/Pacers game, just in case there is a fight so he can beat some more guys up, but then I figure that I've been watchign too much wrestling  :P

  6. Evidently that fat piece of shit who was attacking Jones from behind is Ben Wallace's brother. Looks like being a pussy runs in the family...

In all fairness to Ben, I don't think his mind is completely on basketball right now. He did miss a few games this year already, because of the death of his other brother. His mind could be in other places, the death of a loved one is a huge stressor, and perhaps caused Ben to vent his frustrations in the wrong way. I also wouldn't say Ben Wallace is a pussy either...

  7. Ive never seen a riot or anything. Like I said, since 1984 nothing has happened. NOTHING! As for treating opposing players, what are we supposed to do? Cheer them. You heckle the opposition

And again, the Palace is not in Detroit. Its called "The Palace of Auburn Hills" cuz its in Auburn Hills, MI

Im surprised Artest got the year. I thought he'd get 20 tops. But Stern isnt messing around. The Ben Wallace suspension is proof of that. 7 games for a two-handed shove. 143 games for 9 players. This proves David Stern dont take no shit

  8. I think Ohio State was just the better team yesterday. You still have to remember, TRUE FRESHMEN starting at Quarterback and Tailback. Plus, The Horseshoe aint exactly an easy place to play. The defense has been bad lately and Ohio State was ready for it. At first, they stopped Michigan from bringing a safety up by having Teddy Ginn, Jr. and Santonio Holmes just abuse the Michigan secondary. Then once Michigan started playing more zone coverage, Troy Smith burned them with his legs.

But 9-2, a Big Ten Championship and a Rose Bowl berth. I sure wouldve taken that in August as Id only heard of Chad Henne as young kid who probably would get red shirted and never heard of Michael Hart. Seriously, the starters were supposed to be Matt Guetirrez at QB and David Underwood at tailback and Clayton Richard was the no.2 QB. So, Im happy

As for Wisconsin, they choked. They knew going into Iowa that they just had to win, but they couldnt. Theyve been the fraud of the conference for years and just took a lil while longer to show this year

  9. Detroit fans are not rowdy or any of the crap we've been hit with since Friday. First, it wasnt in Detroit. It was in Auburn Hills. A rich suburb thats about 45 minutes away from Detroit. Most of the people at the games are from Oakland and Macomb Counties. Neither county houses Detroit. We've had one bad incident in 20 years, when the Tigers won the World Series in 1984. Since then, the Pistons have won 3 NBA Titles and the Red Wings have won 3 Stanley Cups. Nothing. No riots or any crap like that. Ive been going to events here for years and nothing close to that has ever happened. This is one bad incident so you outsiders dont bring your rippin on Detroit bullshit without knowin the facts.

And Im sick of people ragging on Palace security. I go Pistons games all the time and Ive never any problems with them. You go through metal detectors to get in. And, are these people supposed to know that Artest was gonna charge into the crowd. The guards are usually in the aisle ways and not in the middle of the sections. Are they supposed to plan every night, "Well.....theres 1% chance a fucking lunatic might charge into the stands, so lets put armed guards in the seats."

  10. I will give you an example:

July 7, 1996; Daytona Beach, FL

Go look at all the shit Hulk Hogan, Scott Hall and Kevin Nash get pelted with.  The ring was full of garbage.  Gene Okerlund took a cup right in the face.  Look at how many times the over the years the NWO was pelted with garbage in the ring.  How many times did they attack the fans?  NEVER

    What a stupidly irrelevant analogy.
