  1. Nomar calls to wish his teammates well

    ESPN.com news services

ST. LOUIS -- For a band of players that has embraced each other throughout a season that very well might culminate in the franchise's first World Series title in 86 years, it's only fitting that the Red Sox would keep Nomar Garciaparra close to their hearts.

As if Garciaparra, the shortstop traded three months ago to the Cubs, were the 26th man on the roster, the current members of the Red Sox last month voted him a full postseason share, the Boston Globe reported Tuesday.

The roughly 50 or so full playoff shares are expected to be around $200,000 each.

Garciaparra also hasn't forgotten the Sox. According to the newspaper, he recently called Jason Varitek and Trot Nixon, his closest friends on the team.

"Being the class act that Nomar is, he wished us well," Varitek said. "He's been a tremendous part of this organization through the years, even this year. He's as deserving as all of us to be here."

The Sox ended Garciaparra's 10-year relationship with the team at the July trading deadline, sending him to the Cubs in a four-way deal in which they acquired Orlando Cabrera and Doug Mientkiewicz.

"He wished us well and told me to tell the guys he was thinking about them and was happy for us," Nixon said. "We all understand that certain things happen in baseball you can't control, but for as long as he was with the team and for everything he did, it doesn't feel right that he's not here."

While Cabrera has been a welcomed addition to the Sox, many teammates continue to honor Garciaparra's legacy.

"Nomar was such a big part of getting us to this point and helping this organization," Varitek said. "I'm not taking anything away from the job Orlando has done. I love everything about him. I just wish we could have both of them here."

  2. How many times have you watched the Packers on thanksgiving day? Now, how many times have you celebrated thanksgiving with your relatives? My uncle was a big Packers fan and my mom and grandmother were Eagles fans ... and ... well ... I guess it's because I don't like birds. I chose the Packers.

  3. I cannot stand Boston & New York fans equally. The Red Sox win one playoff series and suddenly act as if they've taken over baseball. They say "The Yankees Suck" and crap like that. Even if the Red Sox do win the World Series, its still 26 to 5(or 6, not sure) overall.

As for Yankees fans, you lost ONE series. Look at the past decade. 10 straight playoff appearances. 9 straight division championships. 6 American Pennats and 4 World Championships. Yeah it sucks losing to your rival in the playoffs but it happens to everyone. You don't have a right to bitch for a long time.

As a fan of a team where 70 wins is accomplishment, Im sick of all the Yankees/Red Sox bullshit. The Red Sox are NO better than the Yankees. Pedro=bought. Schilling=bought. Man Ram=bought. Passion of the Centerfielder=bought. Foulke=bought. So the Red Sox hands are not clean here either. So both of you quit your bitching and lets all hope for a day when Detroit/KC is the blood feud of the American League

  4. Houston=Overrated!

T-Mac and Francis are basically the same player. Selfish ball hogs who think they should be the first option. That offense should run through Yao, considering he's 7'5" and the best passing big man in years, but it wont cuz T-Mac is a dick. But look out for Bobby Sura!

    As to the Pistons repeating?

    Yes Sir!

  5. If Tony Clark is the hero I will slit my throat. I saw him for YEARS in Detroit underachieve time and time again

This game is just too close to call. The Red Sox got all the momentum in the world but the Yankees are the Yankees and this is at Yankee stadium so who knows. This is tighter than Bush/Kerry
