Me too. I feel some of the strongest stuff was from Season 1 when we found out what happen to Rick and how Lori and Shane ended up together. Without it, you just have to except what the characters are telling you and they never consistently tell the truth.

I think that's the point of The Walking Dead, they are not supposed to trust anyone and you're not supposed to know everything. That's why in the comics you'd never get a flashback, it doesn't actually matters

It's a fun league to follow, I think; obviously the level of quality is much lower than top leagues but it's a league with a lot of parity and unpredictability (except for the annual certainty that Toronto FC and Chivas won't make the playoffs and New York won't win a single trophy).
