  1. With the release of the sequel, I finally went back to do a replay of Final Fantasy XIII. When it first came out, I had gotten to about Chapter 4 or 5 (I remember getting stuck on Odin but I don't remember if I ever made it past him) when a ton of things hit me all at once in my personal life and I never went back to it. I just wrapped up Chapter 7 and I'm having a lot more fun with the battle system than I remember. Digging the characters as well.

If I want a break from that it's NBA 2k12 all the way.

  2. Continuing my "watch everything I own in the order it was released" initiative. Finished 1986 with Aliens and I forgot just how epic that movie is. You still see elements of this film in just about every action/sci-fi released after it. The end where the queen is ripping up the floor looking for Newt is still one of the most genuinely frightening monster movie cat and mouse moments ever.

Debating whether I want to kick off 1987 just yet. Dolph Lundgren vs. Frank Langella with guest appearances from Principal Strickland and The Future Ex-Miss WCW Heavyweight Champion seem like a bit of a drop-off...

Oh who am I kidding? That sounds awesome! I HAVE THE POWER!

  3. After this summer (specifically contracts like the ones given to Rudy Gay and Travis Outlaw) Deng's contract is actually reasonable for a three of his caliber. His long range shot has kept improving and he looks good in Thibodeau's offense so far. Not to mention he's one of the best rebounders for his position. #1 offensive option? Never. Great third scorer behind Rose and Boozer? Definitely.

  4. Being a nerd, I made an Excel sheet with all of my movies sorted by year, then by increasing imdb average rating. I've been watching them in order, which started out awesomely with the "Dollar Trilogy" (Fistful of Dollars, For A Few Dollars More and The Good, The Bad & The Ugly.) Today I watched The Goonies, The Breakfast Club and then Back to the Future to polish off 1985. I think those movies are all common knowledge enough not to have to comment on but DAMN was that a blast of nostalgia.

Of course next is 1986, which doesn't look quite as promising. Ah well, at least I'll get to watch David Bowie's codpiece and Lance Henriksen getting disemboweled by an alien queen.

  5. Having seen a fair number of amateur films (and acted in a few... hmm, this sentence could be misinterpreted) I have to say that this one is pretty decent. The shots are mostly decent and I can look past a few of the "ACTING!" and bad CGI moments. If this guy got to put forth a version of this with a larger budget it would be pretty nice. Definitely the best fanmade film I've seen and this makes me want to see some more video game movies, ha. Maybe Prince of Persia will have a "Pirates" vibe?

  6. I imagine the first game I played was SOMETHING on the Atari, as I vaguely remember an uncle having one really far back in the day. This would likely have been Pac-Man or something like that.

I vividly remember when my dad buying us an NES. Somehow, I found out that the Nintendo cost $100, which was an unfathomable amount of money back then. We were eating dinner and my dad pulled out a $100 bill. I flipped out because I knew this meant I was getting Nintendo somehow. He brought back the Nintendo with Mario Bros. and Duck Hunt and years of nerd-dom was born. Niiiiiiiiice.

  7. Despite having a terrible offensive coordinator and no quality WRs to speak of, Kyle Orton showed signs of promise during his time with the Bears and managed to become a decent starter with Denver where he had Brandon Marshall and the ghosts of the shattered dreams of Shannon Sharpe and Terrell Davis to work with. If NECKBEARD can make something out of nothing in just as dysfunctional environment, "one of the best pure athletes" to ever be taken with the #1 pick doesn't really have an excuse.

  8. Perhaps the greatest moment in my life just occurred when I happened to be viewing a video clip from Nightmare On Elm Street 3: Dream Warrior's focused on the character of Kincaid. Synopsis: Every character in that movie has a dream power. Kincaid's dream power is that he is ridiculously strong. Whilst I arbitrarily play this clip, what song comes on in iTunes? "Break the Walls Down" from WWF Aggression RIGHT as Kincaid breaks a wall down. Classy.

I experienced another moment of musical synchronization a few years ago. I was driving back from work one day and "Knights Of Cydonia" was playing on either the radio or a mix CD I had made. My car or some other noise spooked a group of birds on BOTH sides of the road and prompted them to emerge from the trees at the same time and start flying in one direction at approximately 0:58 seconds into this video. Serend.. sere..er.. um... Good timing coincidence happened there at that point.

I guess the point of this thread would be to ask if people have had similar experiences with music syching up with certain real-time events that seemed really weird/preordained or whatever. I'm sure it's happened and DAMNIT. The public has a right to know!

  9. The OKC "whiteout" is one of the more impressive things I've ever seen from an NBA crowd. You just don't get that level of solidarity in the pro ranks nowadays. OKC stumbled in the first game but these guys are for real. I see them winning at least one championship in the next five years.
