  1. That’s because combat sports’ biggest draw, Manny Pacquiao, is scheduled to fight Juan Manuel Marquez on pay-per-view from the MGM Grand Garden Arena on the same night. But according to UFC Chairman and CEO Lorenzo Fertitta, the FOX card won’t directly compete with Pacquiao.

The UFC on FOX card begins at 6 p.m. and will feature two fights. It will last one hour and be completed before the start of Pacquiao’s bout.

"We’ll be out of there before Pacquiao even walks to the ring," Fertitta said. "This is going to be a perfect night for any fight fan. Get together with your friends, watch two big fights in the UFC and then change the channel to ride into the Pacquiao pay-per-view."

The UFC has not announced which four fighters it will feature in the first FOX show, but Fertitta said the promotion had a plan. Starting in 2012, the UFC will show four cards per year on FOX.

Those events will likely feature more than the two bouts slated for the Nov. 12 card, which is expected to take place at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.

"It’s going to be a little different with the first one," Fertitta said. "It’s going to literally be back-to-back action. We aren’t going to mess around with a lot of pre-fight commentary, post-fight commentary. We are going to roll right in, set up the fights and let the action go."

"For the people coming live in Anaheim, it will be just like a full pay-per-view," Fertitta said. "It’s a full fight card and if the first (televised fight) goes real quick, we’ll fill in like we always do."

Just one hour? Soft debut, I guess. blah.

  2. So is Aaron Maybin an upgrade or downgrade after Vernon "Sackless" Gholston?

I'm pretty sure Gholston could at least play on Special Teams.

Well he's going to be prohibited from actually practicing for a week or two to get back into "game shape"...regain weight and recondition cardio. But yea, he had lost about 15-20lbs while this went on. But as House always says,

I really think Maclin is a better receiver then Jackson. Jackson is more "explosive" but as far as a complete player goes, Maclin wins hands down

Yeah, definitely. Maclin's Torry Holt, Jr. The production isn't anywhere near close, obviously, but the skill set and body type are pretty much identical.

  3. Huge news time: UFC has signed a deal with FOX. It's a 7/8 year deal at $90million a year, UFC will broadcast 4 shows a year on FOX, and they will move their SpikeTV/Versus cards to FX.

Woah woah, hold your horses there son. Its not a done deal yet, Dana himself has said that it is not finalised, they have come close to signing other tv deals before and then Zuffa's insistence on maintaining the high levels of control over the product has killed them dead. Until this is official (not saying it wont happen, just I don't want to count the chickens before they have hatched) I am going to state I am hopeful this will go through because the exposure of it will be immense. Plus those Fox cards would be of a very high quality..

Oh and EoE apparently a lot of older UFC content will be shown on Fuel in the deal, so maybe it will mean more MMA for the everyday fan who wants to watch all the old cards/clipshows/etc...

The $90 mil a year already includes a pay cut so that the UFC can retain creative control over the product, and the deal is all but official:

[update 2:20 p.m. ET] An anonymous Fox source confirms the deal to Heavy.com.

[update 3:43 p.m. ET] John Ourand, author of the SBD article, tweets, "Fox will have a 1pm press conference Thurs with Hill, Freer, Shanks, Landgraf for 'one of the biggest announcements in Fox Sports history.'"

But fair enough. I remember when the HBO deal was all but official, too.

  4. It's a battle between them and Miami, no doubt.

Andrew Luck is Washington's to lose, that team is garbage at just about every level.

Arizona was in the running for Evans apparently, but I wouldn't have liked us giving up a 4th for what would end up being a 1 or 2 year rental at the most, especially considering his greatest attribute (speed) is already starting to diminish. Oh well. He fits Cam Cameron's fetish for non-stop deep routes.

  5. No please, Mysterio, continue with your innovative suggestions on how to better run the league! I've been trying for years to find a more efficient method of keeping track of stats and scoring than pen and paper, I'd love to hear your input!

Get over yourself. It is a suggestion to expedite the process for the rounds that aren't as significant, not an excuse for you to act like a blithing child.

    Roddy White.

  6. So all your complaints and ideas have already been thought of, covered and enacted and you seem to be keenly aware of that. Yet, still you complain about them and suggest ideas that are already being used. Intriguing.

You're not even worth these keystrokes, troll. Do me a favor and get your head out of your ass.

  7. We have members from both sides of the Atlantic and both coasts of North America. We have grown men and a woman who have jobs, families (including kids) and lives outside of this place despite being as active here as possible.

Yeah, I know. That's where sending in lists of who you'd want to next draft to either bill_da_bill or anyone else who might be on by the time your pick comes up would come in handy; something we're already doing, anyways.

  8. Kindly blow it out your ass, I guarantee every single one of them has a higher post per day rating than you do. Ultimately, you'll learn that life happens, and these kinds of drafts take time, no matter how active participants are. Our league spans time zones from GMT to PST, sometimes the draft order just doesn't shake out in a way that's super productive.

If you've got this many complaints, I'm sure we can find someone else to take your spot. I don't care how other drafts you've been a part of have been run, or how you'd do this one differently. We had a set way of doing things, it's worked for the past 6 years, you signed up for it, we're not changing it.

Here's a thought: Shut up about problems until they actually become problems. 6 years of doing it this way and we've never missed a week one start, gee, I think we might have figured out a system that works.

Fuck me for valuing efficiency, right? No need to be a dipshit about it.

  9. Because it could take a while doing it this way. We are off to a great start, but you never know.

Depends on how much you shorten the time to pick for the later rounds I guess, but I can't imagine this taking longer than 2 weeks. But fair enough.

Last year we only drafted 12 rounds and that took us 5 weeks and that was with a group that is fairly active on this board.

.. The fuck. Not active enough, apparently.

    Here's a thought:

Why not reduce the time people have to make their picks for rounds 3 & 4 to 18 hours; rounds 5 & 6 to 14; rounds 7-10 to 12; and the last few rounds to 8 hours? Or you know, anything along those lines? Should expedite the process enough that we're not drafting for the next month+.
