  1. yeah I was in a PPR last year and McCoy was great for me. PPR favors backs like him, so the pick didn't really surprise me. I probably would have taken him in the 2nd if he was still around.

Yeah, he's basically Westbrook without the injuries.

Now watch him get hurt.. which reminds me, why is this draft so early? Usually want at least a pre-season game or two before drafting, IMO. Especially this year, with the shortened off-season.

  2. Chris Johnson going in the 2nd round is kinda shocking and with Andre Johnson he's off to a great start.

Yeah, that's pretty good. It was between Shady and Johnson for me, but I went with Shady just in case Johnson's hold out is legit and it lasts into the season.. and since he's already foregone his 4th accrued season, I'm guessing he's in it for the long haul. Besides, in a PPR, McCoy is money.

  3. The pictures didn't annoy me. The only things that bothered me was the Eminem thing coming on here in an already bad mood and people bitching about me not making the 1st pick yet like I was supposed to be waiting here for it to start and/or be psychic.

Seriously? It's pretty well known that LeSean McCoy's nickname's Shady, dating back to his Pitt days. Figured that would be pretty common knowledge here, too. Whatever, I'll try not to be so damn arcane from here on out. :P

No Future Likely for UFC and Strikeforce on CBS and Showtime, ProElite Close to Deal

by Brent Brookhouse on Aug 8, 2011 12:16 PM PDT in MMA News

Many MMA fans have taken Zuffa's repetition of Strikeforce being "business as usual" since the purchase to mean "just a matter of time." There has been much speculation that Strikeforce would be shut down in 2012 when their deal with Showtime and CBS comes to a close. Cage Potato is now reporting that the resurrected ProElite is close to signing a deal with the networks which should represent the final nail in Strikeforce's coffin:

Sources close to the promotion that was recently brought back from the verge of death by Stratus Media Group, who acquired a 95 percent ownership stake of the company in June, have informed CagePotato.com that ProElite is in the final stages of negotiations for a multi-year television deal with Viacom that will see its events broadcast on both Showtime and CBS starting in the first quarter of 2012.

Viacom owns 20 percent, or approximately 11,991,172 of the 59,955,862 outstanding shares of ProElite (PELE) which are currently trading at 48 cents each after sitting at a penny for the past three years since EliteXC folded. At the height of EliteXC's popularity, the ProElite's shares routinely traded at $15. A resurgence of the company aided by a deal with Viacom, would mean that for every dollar they can raise the stock purchase price by, the media conglomerate could stand to earn close to $12 million U.S.

Zuffa isn't likely to give up air time in any of their deals to put Strikeforce on TV, and they're not going to look for new deals for the smaller promotion when they're still trying to better the UFC's broadcast situation. One can only assume that Strikeforce is going to make it through 2011 and that will be it.

But today is the day to be upset that you didn't buy a ton of $0.01 shares of ProElite as the shares are going to see yet another huge bump after the deal is completed and officially announced.

Update by Brent Brookhouse: TJ Thompson of ProElite refutes the claim on Twitter:

We have no imminent deal with Showtime/CBS. We @ProElitemma are not sure what "source" cage potato used but they were wrong.

It could be that there is no deal, it could be that this is careful language to make it sound like they're not ready to sign for negotiation purposes or it could be that this is a public company that does not want such big news made public yet.

  5. I still think the Eagles will trade Asante, locking up a huge incoming draft class is top on Philly's checklist. They're going to contend with or without Samuel so at least trading him helps them compete more down the line. I mock Andy Reid for his late-game coaching, but the man is the best in the league when it comes to personnel decisions.

    Bill Belicheck says Hi.

He's a better coach and drafter, Reid fills holes better. If Reid could coach and there was no such thing as Spygate he'd have 2 or 3 rings at this point and Belichick might have 1.

Woah, let's not get ahead of ourselves here and pretend only the big, bad Pats were the ones jacking signals. They were just the ones who got caught.

That's a pretty severe claim, got any evidence to support it?

I know I'm a bit late on this but he's right. Jimmy Johnson has admitted to "stealing" signals as well and he was taught to do it by other teams. It's a common tactic in the league and really isn't that much of a big deal as the media or Goodell made it out to be. Besides, even after getting caught, they still went on to have an undefeated season and still are consistently among the best in the league so I doubt it really made that much of a difference.

Pretty sure I've heard that Howard Mudd, Marty Schottenheimer, Jim Johnson, Tony Dungy, Mike Shanahan, Bill Cowher, etc. have done it as well. I'd be willing to bet just about the entire league has, or possibly still does, "steal" opponents signals.

Oh, I missed that post. My bad.

But yeah, Jimmy Johnson and Schottenheimer (and the guys who coached under Schottenheimer) were who I was thinking of.

  6. DREAM announced the brackets for their upcoming Bantamweight GP today:

Dream will be staging the first round the World Bantamweight Grand Prix at Dream 17 on September 23rd. It was already known that the three top finishers from the recent Japanese BWGP made it into the World GP, and Dream had also previously confirmed that Rodolfo Marques and Bibiano Fernandes were participating. Today, Dream announced the final three contestants and the opening round matchups. They also apparently removed the third place finisher from the Japan GP, Kenji Osawa, and replaced him with the man he narrowly defeated in the third-place fight, Takafumi Otsuka.

The final three contestants announced were WEC veteran Antonio Banuelos, former Dream grand prix contestant Abel Cullum, and BE's # 4 bantamweight prospect Yusup Saadulaev.

Here are the first round matchups:

    Antonio Banuelos vs. Hideo Tokoro

    Bibiano Fernandes vs. Takafumi Otsuka

    Masakazu Imanari vs. Abel Cullum

    Rodolfo Marques vs. Yusup Saadulaev

The rest of the card includes Tatsuya Kawajiri's first foray into the featherweight division when he takes on Joachim Hansen, Dream lightweight champion Shinya Aoki facing "Razor" Rob McCullough, Willamy Friere vs. Satoru Kitaoka, and "Lion" Takeshi Inoue vs. Caol Uno.

Really looking forward to seeing Marques and Saadulaev, and Banuelos/Tokoro & Imanari/Cullum should both be fun fights. Interesting to see how Kawajiri looks at Featherweight, too.

  7. He better be...I have him and Colston as my two top receivers.

I'm in a keeper league and I have someone who wants to trade me Steven Jackson for my first round pick (4th) overall. Don't know what I should do.

I have Beanie Wells, Ronnie Brown, CJ Spiller, Fred Jackson, Mike Tolbert. With a bid on Marion Barber...If I take the deal I'm going to want compensation because that means I won't be picking till the third round...

Can you get your hands on a Ray Rice, Arian Foster, Rashard Mendenhall, etc. with that pick? If you can, then don't take the deal, but if they're already locked up then yeah, go for it. Your HBs are pretty blah.

  8. Also, Fedor should really think about hanging them up. He still looks great from a technical standpoint, but his physical skills are clearly fading. He's not hitting as hard as he was, he can't take a punch like he once could, and he can't avoid blows like he once did.

To be fair, not many people can take a clean Hendo uppercut like that and not go lights out.

  10. Fedor was out cold and taking unprotected shots to the head, before getting it together and rolling over. Perfectly legit stoppage, he was out after that uppercut.

Yeah, this. He was out cold from the first uppercut, you didn't see him go completely limp and eat shit? The next couple of shots (which I think were technically illegal, but whatever, it wasn't intentional) stirred him back to life and then he started to roll over, but that was a legit stoppage. It's a shame because I would've loved for him to come back and win the fight like he used to always do, but oh well. It is what it is.

  11. And I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not with that last point. If they're roughly equal in skill, striker vs. grappler often ends up as a boring decision because neither man wants to go to the other's strength. If they have the same strength, at roughly the same level, they're much more likely to end up slugging it out on the feet.

The bigger issue is the lack of depth in Strikeforce's divisions, but I thought Woodley/Daley was a bad match-up from the get-go. Daley is a slugger through and through, and has relatively nothing to offer off of his back or via his grappling; he's the black Dan Hardy (with actual KO power). Matching him up with a powerhouse wrestler like Woodley was just asking for a boring fight, which does nothing for anyone.
