  1. A Tribe Called Quest - "Midnight Marauders" and "People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm"

For me, A Tribe Called Quest are the quintessential hip hop group. Avoiding putting any real focus on image or marketing, they gained massive success with their rhymes. Listening to these two albums is like a gateway to the rest of the genre, because in almost any really good hip hop album since you can find a little Tribe influence.

Our Lady Peace - Spiritual Machines

This is one of those great passed over albums, at least in the States. While Clumsy and Gravity both went Gold in America, this one almost got lost in a shuffle in the nu metal that was dominating the charts at the time. However, I must stress that this is not only the best album that Our Lady Peace ever recorded, but also one of the best concept albums ever recorded. I love how it pretty much comes full circle, taking you on the journey with them.

2pac - Me Against the World

If you need me to explain this, perhaps you should read a book about the mid 90's pop culture. This album was the best 2pac ever recorded, and probably his most influential.

Coldplay - "A Rush of Blood to the Head" and "Parachutes"

Listen to Parachutes and be impressed with how great a debut it is. Then, listen to A Rush of Blood to the Head and be amazed at how quickly they were able to top it. I highly anticipate the third album, although it seems doomed to disappoint.

Ozzy Osbourne - "Blizzard of Ozz"

Listen to Dee. You will then need no further explanation.

  2. I'm just going to watch it because it will be funny. And if it's funny, it's going to be entertaining... And that's how I like my films.

It may end up being funny, but probably in all the wrong ways, like how From Justin 2 Kelly was funny. I mean, it was a laugh riot, but no credit to the directors.

  3. I don't look forward to it at all to be honest with you. I think the niche of Thunderbirds was the puppets, even if the show wasn't exactly rocket science. Using the same lame premise and instead using real people will just turn it into one of those generic sci-fi movies that everyone ignores. I'm predicting it'll be a huge flop, but who knows, maybe the millions of people that have seen the show at some time will help it's box office.

  4. Anti-Flag-The School of Assasins

*shudders* Anti Flag makes my ears bleed. Other then that, it's a nice idea, but since the majority of people picking it up will be under 18 I don't know how much good it will do. Hopefully it'll produce a generation of non-Republicans.

  5. i can remember all my hip hop listening school mates hating him like crazy, otherwise i think that was becaus they totaly were cought up in that silly east oast vs west coast stuff  ;)

That's kind of funny, because I think all of Mase's stuff came out after both Biggy and 2pac were dead. News slow getting back to Germany? ;)

  7. Daily Hip-Hop News:

    Mase: "Harlem... We Back Man"

    written by Carl Chery

    Friday - May 14, 2004

Several months following reports of Mase's return to Hip-Hop, his new single has hit radio and internet download sites while the rapper makes impromptu public appearances declaring to the world he's really back.

On "Welcome Back," the Harlem rapper-turned-minister-turned-rapper-again effortlessly spits his signature lazy flow over a sample of the theme song from the 1970s television show, Welcome Back Kotter. However, references of polygamy and flossing synonymous with the old Mase are noticeably absent. Instead, Mase rhymes on his changed life and his comeback without uttering a curse.

"Self controlled and I ain't telling no lie/trying to find a soul mate you end up being soul tied/I make my money man/without the coca/livin la vida without the loca," Mase proclaims.

Though a far cry from his previous material, the hook highlighted with children chanting, "welcome back" makes the track fit right into his radio friendly catalogue. Later on the track, the former pastor of Atlanta's S.A.N.E. Ministries comments on his lengthy hiatus.

"The names have all changed since I've been around/but the game ain't the same since I left out," he sings.

While early reports said that Mase was seeking a deal with Nelly's Fo Reel Entertainment, he made a surprise call into New York radio station Hot 97 while radio personality Sunny was interviewing P. Diddy on-air yesterday. During the five minute interview, Mase confirmed his rumored return, declaring to Diddy, "Ya'll need to go get me something from Jacob's... I've got to be clean when I walk back in."

Diddy mentioned he has reserved Madison Square Garden mega-arena for a celebratory welcome back concert for the rapper who retired from rap five years ago to pursue God and ministry. Mase mentioned a possible appearance at the upcoming Summer Jam concert.

Apparently this had been rumoured for quite some time, but I can't find anything about it on these boards, and it's news to me. It's good news actually, I really dug Mase. It's also good to see he's found a happy medium between his faith and his passion, instead of just ignoring one of the two. Discuss.

  8. I've always preferred Soundgarden, but this sounds amazing.  I never heard the Nightwatchman song, is it any good?  Whats it like?

It's just Tom and his accoustic guitar, it's awesome. You can check it out here, and the song is called "House Gone Up In Flames".

  9. The Star Wars Heir To The Empire trilogy would be way better than Episodes 1 & 2. Whitley Strieber's Communion and.. whatever it's sequel was called, would be cool if they did it right.

Better yet, pick out just about any of the Star Wars Expanded Universe novels. I'd go with Timothy Zahn's Thrahn trilogy. Great stuff.

  10. 1984 (It's been done, but never that well)

I think a lower budget version of 1984 that concentrated on the real themes of the book as opposed to the high budget drudge they made in the 80's would be great. Of course, it'll never happen because studio execs don't think low budget when it comes to something high profile.

I'd like to see an onscreen version of Kerouac's "On the Road", and apparently so does Scorsese, although he's owned the film rights to it since '67 and done nothing about it. I just hope this doesn't go the way of Scorsese's planned Dean Martin biopic and never end up happening.

  11. I don't wanna understand this horror

    there's a weight in your eyes i can't admit

everybody ends up here in bottles

but the name tags are the last thing you wanted

as the world explodes you fall out of it

and you can't let go because this

    will not go away.....

there's a house built out in space

and can't see the thief that lives inside of your head

but i can be some courage at the side of your bed

    and i don't know what's happening and i can't pretend

but i can be all, be all

someone help us understand who ordered

this disgusting arrangement of time and the end

i don't wanna hear who walked on water

cause the hallways are empty, clocks tick

as the world implodes we fall in to it

and we cant go home because this

    will not go away.....

there's a house built out in space

and i cant see the thief that lives inside your head

but i can be some courage at the side of your bed

    and i don't know what's happening and i can't pretend

it's a long, long get away, it's a long, long get away

make it home again, make it home again

it's a long, long get away, it's a long, long get away

and i cant see the thief that lives inside your head

but i can be some courage at the side of your bed

    and i don't know what's happening and i can't pretend

but i can be all, be all i'm here

but i can be all, be all i'm here

it's a long, long get away

    Our Lady Peace - Thief

I walked around my good intentions

And found that there were none

I blame my father for the wasted years

    We hardly talked

I never thought I would forget this hate

the a phone call made me realize

    I'm wrong

If I don't make it known that

    I've loved you all along

    Just like sunny days that

    We ignore because

    We're all dumb and jaded

And I hope God I figure out

    What's wrong

    I walked around my room

    Not thinking

    Just sinking in this box

I blame myself for being too much

    Like somebody else

I never thought I would just

    Bend this way

    Our Lady Peace - 4 A.M.

He said I'm gonna buy this place and burn it down

I'm gonna put it six feet underground

He said I'm gonna buy this place and watch it fall

Stand here beside me baby in the crumbling walls

Oh I'm gonna buy this place and start a fire

Stand here until I fill all your heart's desires

Because I'm gonna buy this place and see it burn

Do back the things it did to you in return

Ah, ah, ah Ah, ah, ah

He said I'm gonna buy a gun and start a war

If you can tell me something worth fighting for

Oh and I'm gonna buy this place, that's what I said

Blame it upon a rush of blood to the head

HONEY, all the movements you're starting to make

See me crumble and fall on my face

And I know the mistakes that I made

See it all disappear without a trace

And they call as they beckon you on

They said start as you mean to go on

Start as you mean to go on

He said I'm gonna buy this place and see it go

Stand here beside my baby watch the orange glow

Some'll laugh and some just sit and cry

You just sit down there and you wonder why

So I'm gonna buy a gun and start a war

If you can tell me something worth fighting for

And I'm gonna buy this place, that's what I said

Blame it upon a rush of blood to the head

    Oh to the head

HONEY all the movements you're starting to make

See me crumble and fall on my face

And I know the mistakes that I made

See it all disappear without a trace

And they call as they beckon you on

They say start as you mean to go on

As you mean to go on, as you mean to go on

So meet me by the bridge, meet me by the lane

When am I gonna see that pretty face again

Meet me on the road, meet me where I said

    Blame it all upon

A rush of blood to the head

Coldplay - Rush of Blood to the Head

This party is old and uninviting

Participants all in black and white

You enter in full blown technicolor

Nothing is the same after tonight

If the world would fall apart

    In a fiction worthy wind

    I wouldn't change a thing now that you're here

Yeah, love is a verb here in my room

You enter and close the door behind you

Now show me the world seen from the stars

If only the lights would dim a little

I'm weary of eyes upon my scars

If the world would fall apart

    In a fiction worthy wind

    I wouldn't change a thing now that you're here

Yeah, love is a verb here in my room

Pink tractor beam into your incision

Head spining as free as dervishs' whirl

I came here expecting next to nothing

So thank you for being that kind of girl

Incubus - Here In My Room

What can I say, I'm a sucker for the introspective songs.

  12. New York Minute - 2.5/10

May brings the debut of the summer blockbuster season. It also apparently brings the debut of really shitty movies. The best indication that child actors should never grow into adult stars is New York Minute, the film that defies the notion that comedies should be funny. This is the most dull film I've seen this year; completely void of originality or wit. The acting is attrocious, and unlike You Got Served, there are no redeeming dance sequences. I laughed 3 times the entire time, twice were Eugene Levy's lines and one was Andy Richter's. From Justin 2 Kelly was more fun than this. Thumbs way down.

  13. You Got Served - 4/10

For those who think choreographed group dancing is only for women and gay men, You Got Served will come as a big shock. However, to those who think boy band members should stick to their day job's, this will only reaffirm their beliefs. You Got Served is one of the worst films of all time from the perspective of direction, acting and screenwriting. However, I must take exception to those who say that it's without it's good points. For those who take You Got Served for what it is (a shameless spectacle), the movie might not be as bad as one would expect. The dance scenes are, simply put, spectacular. If you're a fan of: a) the recently broken up B2K, or B) breakdancing, you might have something hear. If you aren't, you might want to avoid this one. Thumbs down, although if you look close there are a few good points.
