Depends, is it Todd Boehly making the signings?

    Let's assume its somone sensible.

Chelsea are an interesting thought exercise in how many of their first team squad they're going to have to get rid of, and how many of those are going to have to be massive money-losing write offs.

A glance at Wiki tells me that come 1st July, they will have 41 first team players on their books, assuming Felix and Zakaria aren't signed or and no loans either way are extended.

    Keep Borderline Sell Loan?
    Badiashile Kepa Aubameyang Slonina
    Enzo Kovacic Pulisic Hutchinson
    Silva RLC Bettinelli Hall
    Kante Mount Mendy
    Chalobah Gallagher Sterling
    Mudryk Azpi Ziyech
    Broja Havertz Koulibaly
    Chilwell Cucurella Rahman
    James Ampadu Sarr
    DD Fofana Maatsen Bakayoko
    Chukuwuemeka CHO Lukaku
    Madueke
    W Fofana
    Colwill
    Gusto
    Santos

Sterling, Ziyech and Koulibaly all feel like it'll be dependent on who the new boss is and can they get the best of them. I think Ziyech the most likely to actually move on of the three.

A new manager might also try and keep Lukaku.

I do like East/West Bowl selection, DeMarvion Overshown though.

You know how surnames often derive from either places or jobs people used to do in the old days? I wonder what the etymology of the surname Overshown is.

Also, without having done any proper digging yet, I am broadly happy with what we went for last night. A QB in the 3rd is fine - potentially good enough to be something down the line, but no additional pressure on Goff this year beyond what he was already expecting.

Sources with NFL teams were not surprised that Alabama running back Jahmyr Gibbs went as a top-20 pick, because they viewed Gibbs as one of the few players with an elite grade in the 2023 NFL Draft. Interestingly, sources with the Jets say their team was planning on taking Gibbs with the 15th pick. They felt he was too much of a playmaker to pass on, and he would have been a tremendous receiving back for Aaron Rodgers to work with. Gibbs also is a very good pass blocker who could have helped the aging quarterback. The Jets took Breece Hall in the second round last year, but Hall is coming off a serious injury, and having a potent rushing attack with a two-headed monster would obviously have helped the Jets set up good down-and-distance situations for Rodgers. After the Lions took Gibbs with the 12th pick and the offensive linemen went off the board, the Jets felt that Will McDonald was the best value available and could help them field a dangerous edge rush group.

-Another player that the Falcons loved was Iowa linebacker Jack Campbell. Sources said that Atlanta was interested in trading up from its second-round pick to get Campbell. Additionally, sources with the New York Giants said Campbell was in the running for their first-round pick. If he fell to late in the first round, they were planning on seeing what it would take to move up for Campbell. Multiple team evaluators have said Campbell is similar to former Carolina Panthers All-Pro linebacker Luke Kuechly. Detroit snatched up Campbell at No. 18, breaking the hearts of some of the staff with the Falcons and Giants.

Yeah, the more I read the more I feel good about these picks. Read an interview with Holmes basically saying that you can't just say 'you shouldn't take an RB that early' when Gibbs is actually a multi-talented / multi-positional threat etc. They were the guys at the top of our board by the time it came round to us.

I really like that pick. Argue its a reach, but he can play.

I think its clear Holmes is going literally for 'his guys' and gives no shits what other teams' big boards are.

    I'm fine with it.

3x 2nd round picks tomorrow. Could be plenty of value to get there.

I like it honestly. I get the impression Holmes is probably just taking the guys he wants that fall in the 12 - 46 range with all these picks now. But I'm a fan of running backs, especially quick ones.

He's pretty darn rapid too. 4.36 for his 40.

  6. To be fair, those highlights look tasty. Him + Montgomery + Swift is a good RB room.

    Just now, Lineker said:

If Lions were going to take Jahmyr Gibbs at No. 12, why not just take Bijan Robinson at No. 6?

I suspect it was Witherspoon or trade down, and no other choices.

  7. Looking forward to this. Feels like one of the lesser predictable drafts in recent years.

I think I'd prefer we didn't go QB. We have greater need on D, and I think we should take the best available player on that side of the ball with the early pick.

I suspect we may trade down from our 2nd pick to be able to collect a few more Day 2/3 picks.

I did not like that episode of Picard.

    Spoiler

I was getting into Picard a bit in the last couple of episodes but I did not like this one. The Borg again. We had a whole season of building up the changelings and having a generally excellent antagonist in Amanda Plummer - only to go right back into The Borg again.

There was part of me hoping that when Jack went off he was going to end up at the Great Link or that when he was he said "a wormhole" he was actually going to stumble across a wormhole to the Gamma Quadrant and the Jem'Hadar would show up.  But no. We got the Borg. Again.

I've enjoyed seeing the TNG crew back together. Michael Dorn and Jonathan Frakes have been delightful the whole series. I wasn't a huge fan of bringing Data in in Season 1 of Picard, killing him again, and then bringing him back here but I was able to let it go because I like Brent Spiner. I much prefer this "it's Data but he's in an older body" idea. I kinda wish they'd just done this with Data in season 1 because it is fun. I also did like like that Geordi rebuilt their Enterprise. I feel like had it not been an 11th-hour swerve into more Borg I'd have liked it better.

But also Picard cums borg genetic material, I guess?

I feel like it was always going to come down to them tbh. The explanation also clear up some small plotholes that were left lingering from the original show.
