I did not like that episode of Picard.

    Spoiler

I was getting into Picard a bit in the last couple of episodes but I did not like this one. The Borg again. We had a whole season of building up the changelings and having a generally excellent antagonist in Amanda Plummer - only to go right back into The Borg again.

There was part of me hoping that when Jack went off he was going to end up at the Great Link or that when he was he said "a wormhole" he was actually going to stumble across a wormhole to the Gamma Quadrant and the Jem'Hadar would show up.  But no. We got the Borg. Again.

I've enjoyed seeing the TNG crew back together. Michael Dorn and Jonathan Frakes have been delightful the whole series. I wasn't a huge fan of bringing Data in in Season 1 of Picard, killing him again, and then bringing him back here but I was able to let it go because I like Brent Spiner. I much prefer this "it's Data but he's in an older body" idea. I kinda wish they'd just done this with Data in season 1 because it is fun. I also did like like that Geordi rebuilt their Enterprise. I feel like had it not been an 11th-hour swerve into more Borg I'd have liked it better.

But also Picard cums borg genetic material, I guess?

I feel like it was always going to come down to them tbh. The explanation also clear up some small plotholes that were left lingering from the original show.

ok Ghosts cover of Jesus He Knows Me is fucking awesome.  I'd put the official music video (which is insane) but there are some questionable scenes in it I don't think would be allowed on EWB

It's a cracking cover. The whole EP looks interesting to be fair:

    ‘See No Evil’ (Television)
    ‘Jesus He Knows Me’ (Genesis)
    ‘Hanging Around’ (The Stranglers)
‘Phantom of the Opera’ (Iron Maiden)
‘We Don’t Need Another Hero (Thunderdome)’ (Tina Turner)

They mentioned it yesterday, never before have two clubs in the same division gotten over 100 points. So it's truly a historic season, and arguably a call for promotion from the National League to be overhauled.

Of course that will never happen because EFL clubs have too much to lose, and there are some clubs in the Natty that would leap into the mid table immediately, as well as both Notts and Wrexham arguably being at League One levels already.

There's been a lot of talk of making its three up/three down soon between Nat League and L2 tbf.

im enjoying picard but this season is basically impenetrable to new viewers. I had to pause episode six like three times to explain something to my wife.

You haven't already made her watch all of previous Trek cannon?

  5. It was ok imo, without being special. I'm not as down on it as some reviewers (I think Serkis was great as the villain), but it probably could have just been a TV show.

  6. Continuing my journey through the 1001 Films to See Before You Die (2020 ed.) list, I watched The Big Red One (1980) and Seconds (1966) in the past couple of days.

Enjoyed both. The former I think is criminally under discussed when we're talking of damned good WW2 films. It's a 4/5 for me. The way they made an epic on a relatively shoestring budget was impressive. It's also manages to nail a varying tone too (mostly middle of the road drama with a hint of black comedy, but there's one hilarious scene in a tank, and at the other end of scale some near on harrowing parts).

Seconds was fun, and darker than I was expecting. The middle third sags a little, but the first and last third are really good. It's a sort of psychological thriller / horror / (soft) sci-fi where a company offers to let people (who pay ofc) to create new lives, involving plastic surgery and working up cover stories for the deaths of the original personas. Rock Hudson plays the main character post-surgery. I reckon it would be ripe for a remake these days, possibly as a prestige mini-series. Either way, still a 3.5/5

  7. If anyone digs the crossroads of doom, stoner metal and heavy psych, I HIGHLY recommend the new album from REZN, entitled 'Solace'. No reinventing of any wheels. Just a brilliant 40 minute journey. Also, the artworking is banging.

Algiers are a band I'm only aware of  because there's an Algiers who were a follow on from Dartz! (the greatest band ever to come out of Stockton) and I have to scroll past one to get to the other on Spotify. I'm assuming you're talking about the one with more than 90 monthly listeners...

  9. I actually prefer it post-time jump tbh. But yeah, one more season to round it off seems about right. I'm guessing we might start hearing more about the Section 31 show on the back of this and Picard both ending.

I would kill to see Sunset Boulevard in a theater. It would be so neat if there was something like that here but alas, the only classic movies we get are either Beauty and the Beast or Titanic during Valentine's Day weekend 😕

Some independent cinema will offer the ability to hire a screen out, including getting a print of whichever film you want. Not a cheap way to do it ofc, but a thought.
