Interesting with the Venom bit.
-
Tony Schiavone: A fearsome individual is Kevin Sullivan, but the bravery of Hulk Hogan knows no bounds!
Bobby Heenan: Neither does his forehead.
-
No more Repo Man? DEAR GOD, THINK OF THE CHILDREN! Unless, of course, Bill Eadie will make his return.
I just read over this diary, and must say thst it's quite good.
-
MIKE AWESOME! That rules. Raw may have been good before, but now it's fixing to get Awesome!
Ha, just went to EWB3 from that link. Quite interesting to be in my old account of Jonnism Version 2 again. Allowed me to find my old sig, and add it to this one, because this quote rules.
-
Interesting. Hopefully his signing in the WWF would also change history, and stop Macho from trying to put out a rap CD.
-
Shit! Knew I should have checked this more. Damn my brain. Ah well, I'll try again next time.
-
Yeah! We got to see The Richardster on Raw!
Good shows so far man. I'll be reading on.
-
World Heavyweight Title Match
Rhyno © vs. Chris Jericho
Logic says: Jericho. He came back from the injury, and getting to the top of the Raw mountain would be a logical way to end his run.
Rooting for: Rhyno. Beating Jericho after he came back from his injury would put Rhyno over as the badass monster that he's been built as.
Build up: Good build up over the first few weeks, but it's been a little dull the past while.
Asset?: Definate asset. The talented underdog vs the destroying monster is always good.
Memorable?: Yes.
WWE Heavyweight Title Match
Eddie Guerrero © vs. Edge
Logic says: Eddy. Why would one side have to change it's titles? It doesn't, and there's no reason for Eddy to lose.
Rooting for: Eddy. Edge is good when only in sight of Christian.
Build up: As good as possible with Edge involved.
Asset?: Could be better, but it could be a LOT worse, too.
Memorable?: Probably, yes.
Intercontinental Title Match
Molly Holly © vs. Chris Nowinski
Logic says: Nowinski. The title being on Molly, no matter how over she is, isn't a good thing.
Rooting for: Molly. I like Molly as she is on WWE TV, let alone with the amazing buildup for her that you've provided here. I'm just a mark for Molly.
Build up: Not really, compared to Molly/Christian. This is more like an aftermath to that.
Asset?: Sure. Nowinski is a good challenger, however....
Memorable?: Not really. It's no "huge victory" like it was for Molly to go over Christian.
WWE United States Title Elimination Match
Matt Hardy © vs. Konnan vs. Eric Angle vs. Bull Buchanan
Logic says: Matt. None of the others are really good enough to have good matches with the US title around their waist.
Rooting for: Matt. See above.
Build up: Fair. It hasn't sucked, but it could have been worse.
Asset?: Well, it gets the title on the PPV. That's always nice.
Memorable?: Nope. Unless there's gonna be a HUGE SWERVE, it's just a standard four-way elimination match.
World Tag Team Title Match (Special Referee: Chris Benoit)
Nick Mondo and Tommy Dreamer © vs. Batista and Michael Shane
Logic says: Mondo and Dreamer. Logically, there should be nothing keeping them from retaining the titles with Benoit as the referee.
Rooting for: Mondo and Dreamer. If there's one thing Dukes has been good for, is giving us the unexpected. And if we're all assuming Benoit will turn, then he won't be turning.
Build up: Save for Benoit being added, there's not TOO much behind it. So not a good buildup.
Asset?: I wouldn't take it off, but it's not a major asset either.
Memorable?: If Benoit turns heel, then yes. If not, then no.
WWE Tag Team Title Match
Billy Kidman and Rey Misterio © vs. Kurt Angle and Brock Lesnar
Logic says: Angle and Lesnar. They're bigger, stronger, and more rounded in their attack than the Animals.
Rooting for: Kidman and Rey. Angle and Lesnar have nothing to gain by winning the Tag titles from two guys who are.
Build up: Good, what with the Animals attacking Lesnar.
Asset?: I'd say a liability here, myself. There's really nothing to gain anywhere. The Animals are over enough to not get any major rub from TA, and TA won't gain anything by beating the Animals.
Memorable?: Not unless there's a major turn. So I'd say no.
Grudge Match
Sting (w/Chris Harris) vs. Randy Orton
Logic says: Orton. He's younger and seemingly has to go over Sting to continue being the Legend Killer.
Rooting for: Sting. With Flair not around, then someone has to stop Orton's legend killing eventually, and what better place than here?
Build up: Good. They've been pretty much back and forth the whole time.
Asset?: Not really.
Memorable?: No.
2 out of 3 falls for the Vacant WWE Cruiserweight Title
Ultimo Dragon vs. Jamie Noble
Logic says: Ultimo. Paul Heyman said so.
Rooting for: Ultimo. Who am I go to against Paul Heyman?
Build up: Good. They hounded one another until there is no better way to end it all than with a big match.
Asset?: Yes. I can't think of many better to give two/three matches to.
Memorable?: Yes. I say this'll be the Match(es) of the Night.
WWE All-Star Match
RAW: Eric Bischoff, Shawn Michaels, Triple H, Kane, Christian
SD!: Roddy Piper, Undertaker, Rob Van Dam, Charlie Haas, Shelton Benjamin
Logic says: Raw. They've been built as a team that can't play well with one another, and logic says that's who bands together at the last instant to get the win.
Rooting for: Raw. Why? Because of logic.
Build up: As good as an interpromotional match can be.
Asset?: The question is more "Can WGTT, RVD, and Christian carry all the other dead weight?" I think they can.
Memorable?: Short-term, yes; thanks to the PPV stipulation. Long-term, no.
TIEBREAKERS:
1. Which match will open the show? US title
2. Who will be the special surprise appearance I said would occur? Bret Hart. Hey, it is in Canada!
3. There will be one swerve at SummerSlam. What? A turn. Probably Benoit, but I'm gonna say Eric Angle.
4. What individual will score the pin in the All-Star match? Bischoff.
5. Will anyone get at least 8 of 9 matches correct? Sure.
-
Yay, I'm noted as one of Dukes's readers! I'm in good company.
I'll put up some predictions after the last Raw and SD before the PPV.
-
Hopefully Dukes didn't just find the old "Before They Were Famous" SMW DVD like I did, and thus would be debuting "Hollywood" Bob Holly
-
For myself, there hasn't been anything bad in this diary. Some things I enjoyed a little less than others, but nothing has been bad. You've even made a Nathan Jones push as painless as it could possibly be, by putting him with Ward.
You get absolutely NO complaints from me, whether you want some or not. Sorry dude, that's just how it is.

-
Kurt, WGTT, Simmons, Kidman and Rey would get cheered, Taker would just get booed, Eric would get silence, and Bradshaw and Barton would be told to go home.
Pretty sure that's everyone involved.
-
Nice stuff, only one complaint; his name is Hennig, not Henning. Nothing major, but it's just one of them things that just perturb me since I've always been a huge Hennig mark.
-
Heyman with John Heinylick? Bah.
Everything else seems good.
-
I like what all I've seen so far. Hopefully you can recapture what you had in previous diaries and make this just as good if not better.
Keep up the good work NBT.
-
I'd mark out for "Romeo" Paul Roma.
-
I'm hoping that Sting's friend won't end up being Luger. Maybe Vader? I'll be crossing my fingers in hopes of that one!
-
Your interviews are good, but there's a lot more jobber squashes than there should be. I know they had a lot of them back then, but I don't recall it being every match.
-
What you could do is lose the matches and post the interviews at the top of the Virch report. Your interviews are really good, but you're more or less just writing the matches twice.

February 1998's SUPERBRAWL VIII

Buff Bagwell vs. Diamond Dallas Page (WCW US Title Match)
Bret Hart & Ric Flair vs. Steve McMichael & Goldberg
Sting vs. Randy Savage (WCW World Title Match)
Which Dungeon member will Jimmy Hart choose?
1. Arthur Dexter Bradley
2. The Fake "Dr. Death" Scott Montgomery
3. "The Shark" John Tenta
4. The Mysterious "Hangman"
-
I hope we're not leading up to Age in the Cage, but that's a lot like how it appears. Here's hoping that something may happen to keep us from such a thing.
-
1. Pick the winner: Rhyno v. Chris Jericho v. HHH
2. Which man will not be involved in the decision? Jericho
3. Pick the winner: Molly Holly v. Christian
4. Pick the winner: Randy Orton v. Sting
5. Pick the winner: Shawn Michaels v. Kane
6. Pick the winner: Mondo and Dreamer v. Jeter and Matthews
7. Who will pin whom? Dreamer over Jeter
8. Pick the winner: Hall and Booker v. Nowinski and Mack
9. Who will pin whom? Hall over Nowinski
10. Pick the winner: Jazz v. Trish Stratus v. Tracy v. Lucille LaChienne
11. Who will lose the match? Jazz
12. Will any matches be added at the last minute to compensate for Benoit's injury? No
13. Which match received the highest *overall* EWR rating? HBK vs Kane
14. Which match's result forced me to use Arsenic on a wrestler's morale? Christian vs Molly
15. Which match was so well-received that the match following it was a letdown? Michaels vs Kane
Billy Kidman and Rey Misterio
I'll give it a 6. Good team, but now it looks like Kidman will have to splinter off for a bit, and that sucks.
Chris Jericho
Getting unique on a bad show? That's worth a 10.
Christian
8. He comes DAMN close to crossing the line, and it only makes it better.
Cruiserweights
9. All for it.
Dallas Page
10. I've always liked DDP, and him as a commentator is great. And then to add in Good Thing, Bad Thing? Awesome.
Eddie Guerrero
4. I love Eddy, but to me, everything around him just seems too unfocused. Maybe I'm just not reading closely enough, but he seems to be feuding with someone else every two weeks or so.
Eric Bischoff
7. There could be better roles for him, but at least he's playing what everyone knows he can: the evil boss who is a member of a stable and gives them everything.
Evolution (including Orton in-ring)
6. Shane being in it kinda confuses me, but at least there's no 3H all over the place. But there's also no Naitch all over the place, so that sucks. In fact, I don't actually know what happened to Flair in this universe >_> I remember what he did in the last "book", but where he is now I have no clue.
Jim Cornette
10. He rules the friggin Earth. Though I could easily see him step in as a manager to a new tag team, and end up feuding with Heyman and Team JAPAN.
Jim Ross
1. I hate JR, but Page seems to bring him out some.
Rhyno
10. As with Cornette, he rules the friggin Earth.
Los Maximos
2. Them begging to Piper was funny, but I hate the Maximos.
Matt Hardy
8. V1 around the US title is good, but he COULD be after the World.
Michael Cole
2. Good foil for Cornette.
Molly Holly
8. I liked her last interaction with Christian, and I hope that when/if she wins the IC title, we can see more of it.
Nathan Jones
5, just for being with Ward.
Nick Mondo and Tommy Dreamer
5. But I can see one of them turning before too long, and that should be interesting.
Recent call-ups (Jeter, Matthews, Hennigan, Tracy)
0, 3, 2, and 5, respectively. I don't like Jeter, Matthews is cool but only if York would have come along, Hennigan I don't care about, and Tracy is good in the role that she's doing, but I'm unsure about after that's done with.
Recent long-term signings (Cabana, Tomko, Rizzono)
7, 4, 5, respectively. Cabana rules.
Right to Censor
5. It gets Stevie consistant air-time, so it can't be ALL bad.
RNN host Randy Orton
4. The guests aren't being that great lately, but really; how do you compete with the times that he was in Canada?
Roddy Piper
9. Piper as GM was unexpected, and he's been great in his role.
Shawn Michaels
6. Just seems....mediocre. But at least he's not getting five hundred title shots, so that's cool.
Sting
9. A non-WWE legend being treated like a legend? WOW.
Team JAPAN and Paul Heyman
10. Heyman on TV is great, and having him with a awesome team like Ultimo and Tajiri is even better.
Three Live Kru
0. I thought they were funny in real life for awhile, but I hate 3LK by now.
Triple H
3. Generic face 3H, which is the same as generic heel 3H.
Undertaker and Torrie Wilson
4. Interesting enough to keep my attention, but not enough to like it much.
Women wrestlers (other than Molly)
1. Save for Victoria, it's all just the standard stuff.
