i regard the tony hawk 2 soundtrack as awesome. i don't particulary listen or like many of the bands on it now, but back then it opened my mind and taught me that there is much better music outside the top 40. that and napster.

i'm loving it so far. but i agree that it isn't your "typical" first single for an album, in that theres no catchy chorus to it.

can i recommend an excellent torrent thats floating around every month. "indie rock playlist (month) (year)" (current one is march 2008..duh) has around 100 songs on it of whatever indie songs are playing on radio for that month. great way to find new shit. and since its torrent you can easily uncheck the songs you already have.
