  1. Been playing this since Saturday, but decided to re-start and 5-star every case. I know that you can just go into the cases and redo the ones that you messed up, but I find this more satisfying, oddly enough.

I do have to say, undoing one of my favourite mistakes will be hard, though:

Tossing Matt from Heroes into the can for murder gave a distinct sense of catharsis. It was like punishing him for Heroes in general. And it was awesome.

I think I'll buy all the DLC tonight, that way it shows up at the proper times in the story's arc. This game is brilliant.

  2. Definitely agree on the major pass. I've finished many a fight while in rubber guard, attempting the gogoplata while waiting for my opponent to try and pass - which, succeed or fail, they seem to become vulnerable to submission attempts. I've managed to get fairly good at chokeholds (currently playing as a judoist, so he's naturally good at chokes anyhow), so that usually means the finish, provided I can get it locked in tight.

  3. Got this the other day. Most fun I've had with a sports game in a long time.

Finished my career as a HW today, going undefeated through to the end. My Lightweight fighter isn't having much luck. I decided to go to the league with the single 20-minute round, and I've been having a hell of a time, barely eking out victories in the dying minutes. My fighter has an enormous glass jaw and absolutely no stamina retention (the two places I'm obviously focusing my efforts at the moment), so that's the big issue. I just had back-to-back rematch fights that each went to the final minute. In the first one, I managed to catch a lucky break and start pounding out knee strikes in the thai clinch for the TKO victory. Second one ended a bit more on my terms with a step-up armbar.

Read that the sequel for this game is not a matter of if, but when. Quite pleased with that; I'll even pay full price for that one. EA Sports have sold me on this one.

(That said, when I went 40-0, I feel like a great section of the audience were saying "Yeah, that's all well and good, but how would he stack up in the UFC?" :shifty:)

  4. The television season is almost nearing the end.

NBC released its finale dates for most of its series, and what stands out is an hourlong finale for Community on May 12 with Josh Holloway and hourlongs for Parks and Recreation and The Office.

30 Rock will also be celebrating its 100th episode on April 21 with a one-hour edition as "TGS, the show-within-the-show, faces the prospect that its 100th episode may be its last. A new corporate boss, a star in hiding and a mind-altering gas leak may doom America's fourth-favorite Friday night sketch comedy show."

The Event, which returned from its hiatus Monday, ends its season (or will it be the series?) on May 23.

  5. I found the main story on Community fell a bit flat for me this week. It was still a solid episode (and excellent when placed up against any other television show I watch), but I found Abed's story more interesting this week. Maybe it's just that Annie-and-Jeff-centric episodes are my least favourite, with the exception of anything focussing on Shirley.

Two weeks without Community may kill me, though.

  6. It’s the morning after the Grammy Awards, when the recording industry is still recovering from after-parties, after-after-parties and any pathogenic bacteria it might have picked up from Lady Gaga’s egg, so who would expect there to be any music news before Justin Bieber wakes up?

Radiohead, that’s who. That nonconformist British band opted to wait until immediately after the Grammys (and, in Britain, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards) to announce that its next album, “The King of Limbs,”will be available as a digital download on Saturday before its physical release in May.

But unlike its last album, “In Rainbows,” for which Radiohead allowed online customers to pay what they wished (if they wished to pay anything at all), “The King of Limbs” will not be sold at such flexible prices. On its Web site for the new album, thekingoflimbs.com, the band said that a digital version can be purchased in advance for $9 (for MP3 format) or $14 (for WAV format).

Radiohead is also offering what it calls a “newspaper album” release of “The King of Limbs” (a metaphor that was lost on at least one newspaper employee) which includes two 10-inch vinyl records and a compact disc, as well as “many large sheets of artwork, 625 tiny pieces of artwork and a full-color piece of oxo-degradable plastic to hold it all together.” This release is sold for $48 (for MP3 digital files) or $53 (for WAV), and will be shipped on May 9, the band said.

    Source.

    Eeeeek.

  7. The White Stripes would like to announce that today, February 2nd, 2011, their band has officially ended and will make no further new recordings or perform live.

The reason is not due to artistic differences or lack of wanting to continue, nor any health issues as both Meg and Jack are feeling fine and in good health.

It is for a myriad of reasons, but mostly to preserve what is beautiful and special about the band and have it stay that way.

Meg and Jack want to thank every one of their fans and admirers for the incredible support they have given throughout the 13 plus years of The White Stripes' intense and incredible career.

Third Man Records will continue to put out unreleased live and studio recordings from The White Stripes in their Vault subscription record club, as well as through regular channels.

Both Meg and Jack hope this decision isn't met with sorrow by their fans but that it is seen as a positive move done out of respect for the art and music that the band has created. It is also done with the utmost respect to those fans who've shared in those creations, with their feelings considered greatly.

With that in mind the band have this to say:

"The White Stripes do not belong to Meg and Jack anymore. The White Stripes belong to you now and you can do with it whatever you want. The beauty of art and music is that it can last forever if people want it to. Thank you for sharing this experience. Your involvment will never be lost on us and we are truly grateful."

    Sincerely,

    Meg and Jack White

    The White Stripes

From their label's website. Colour me unsurprised, but a bit sad.

  8. Aparently David Tennant is now engaged to Georgia Moffat, according to some reports.

I'll give you a minute to process this: The actor who played the 10th Doctor is now engaged to the actress who played his daughter and the actor who played the 5th Doctor will be his father-in-law when they get married.

Now she's pregnant with a baby girl.

So the Doctor's daughter is inside the Doctor's daughter, who played the Doctor's daughter.

  9. GoGo, you're quickly becoming simultaneously my favourite and least favourite poster, based on the fact that you post what I believe/am thinking before I believe/think it.

Glee has the rest of the season to become interesting again, or I leave it forever. It's rapidly becoming this year's Heroes in my books.

  10. Joe Banks, 82 years young, has come to this pond everyday for the past 17 years to feed the ducks. But last month Joe made a discovery: the ducks were gone. Some say the ducks went to Canada, others say Toronto. And some people think Joe used to sit down there near those ducks. But it could be that there's just no room, in this modern world, for an old man and his ducks.

{Coming Up Next! The first of 3 LOST characters, An Agent with a Black heart, and a man that should know better then to talk about the war)

Forget that. This is the greatest injustice in this thread, ever. I didn't vote for either...but just guess which one of them I hate.

  12. So, rather than get caught up in new shows, I've decided to regress into older shows that I have yet to watch. I'm five episodes into the first season of the Sopranos and have been enjoying it well enough so far (it helps that I'm on an enormous mafia kick at the moment).

I've also got the first series of Torchwood to dive into eventually, although I've heard that it's sort of disappointing at the beginning but picks up after a while. (Not that it matters - Captain Jack'll be there, and that's all I care about). I've also been considering watching some classic Doctor Who, as I'm only familiar with the series from the 2005 reboot...I've been getting conflicting "This is a good place to start" reports, though.

Finally, I've borrowed the first season of Six Feet Under and am looking forward to starting it, and I've got Season 1 of The Wire ready too. I think I'm set, along with my usual weeklies (House, Glee, The Office, Community, Chuck (although, I have some catching up to do on those last two) and occasionally the Sunday Night Animation Block), but I'm curious, EWB: What shows that're done their runs am I missing? I know, this is vague, since you don't know what I've watched, but I'm interested in your input.

  13. Regarding the singing and no one noticing - I think that was the point with Empire State of Mind. Unless I'm forgetting another number, the whole point was that only a couple of people (Sunshine and Tennis-balls-mouth-guy) noticed or cared.

All in all, I liked the show, but thought it lacked in one important place - Emma.
