  1. I think Serie A gets a bad repuation for being 'defensively minded' based on a generation of people watching 90s-early 00's stodgy Italian matches.  However, looking at this season the league is the only one from the top 5 leagues with over 3 goals per match on average (3.05), Bundesliga (2.95), Ligue 1 (2.75), Premier League (2.65) and La Liga (2.47).  It's also the only one of the top five leagues with over 1,000 goals in the season so far.

Looking more specifically at Inter, only Barcelona, PSG, Bayern and Atalanta have scored more goals than them in the top five leagues.  The interesting thing is that if Inter and Conte had been more defensively minded in the Champions League this year, they'd have qualified with ease in all probability.

Next season they should get an easier draw and that should help them progress. although it does depend on which player they'll have to sell due to their financial position.

  2. While we're on Liverpool and their centre backs, how do Liverpool fans see Joe Gomez going forward?  It's likely he's going to come back when you have a number of centre backs and every time I've seen him play he's always looked quite shaky.  Van Dijk beside him is always going to overshadow him, but a fully fit Matip (for however long that lasts) should be ahead of him and I'd say that Fabinho (and probably even Henderson) have shown themselves to be more capable at centre back.

Add Kabak into that, who is younger and has a higher ceiling to him plus any other signings they bring in and I could see him being 5th/6th choice next year.  If you give me a fully fit squad for Liverpool just now, Van Dijk, Matip, Kabak and Fabinho start at centre half before Gomez does.

I might be massively underestimating him and I don't heavily watch Liverpool so that's why I'm interested in opinions from those that have watched him more over the last few years.

  3. If I was looking to run another mafia-style game named Secret Hitler, would there be any interest?  It's very similar to Mafia but with less 'night abilities' so would be more down to deduction and questioning than anything else.

Basically up to ten players are split into two teams, liberals and fascists with the fascist group also containing the Hitler role.  Hitler is known to the fascists but Hitler doesn't know the fascists (in fames with 7 players+).

Each round, one player becomes president (set rota for who becomes president, with the president then nominating a player for Chancellor.  All players will then vote Yes or No to the proposed Chancellor and if a majority vote yet, that becomes the sitting government.  From there the president gets three policy cards which are either a liberal or fascist policy, the president then secretly removes a card before giving the remaining cards to the Chancellor who will then pick the chosen policy to be enacted.

Game ends when either five liberal policies or six fascist policies have been enacted, with the players in the party winning if that happens.  However, after a certain number of fascist policies are passed, the standing president can win the game for the liberals if they assisinate Hitler, or the fascists can win if Hitler is electer Chancellor.

Full details can be found here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secret_Hitler

If there was interest I do have two questions:

    1) Should this be played in the Mafia section or the main Cube section?

    2) Should it be added to the Mafia Waiting List rather than me jumping in with a game that could take people away from the next mafia game?

Didn't see the Saka one, but Pique's knee injury had nothing to do with the amount of games he'd played.

They could definitely increase the amount of subs. But in terms of the scheduling, teams who play in the CL have done Saturday/Tuesday/Saturday and Sunday/Wednesday/Saturday matches for years now.

He's not just talking about Liverpool of course, but I'm not sure what time slot that game could have been given last night that was any better, due to the internationals that had just taken place. Liverpool's next league game is 12.30 Saturday, but move that any later and it's even closer to the following CL game, so there's going to be complaints about scheduling regardless.

The difference this year is that for the CL games, they used to be every second week whereas this years it's every week.  So you'd have went previously, Saturday/Tuesday (CL)/Saturday/Midweek Off (League Cup etc)/Saturday to now Saturday/Tuesday (CL)/Saturday/Wednesday (CL)/Sunday.  Plus three international fixtures in both the October and November international breaks instead of the usual two.

I'm not sure why the Champions League couldn't have been single leg matches from the round of 16 onwards.  You could then expland the group stages to be played up until February next year and then single leg matches late February, March, April and May for the last 16, quarters, semi's and then final.

  5. I now understand why Premier League fans have such an issue with VAR, given that was the first real interaction I've had with it for a match I'm invested in!  That celebrating the Marshall save, followed by watching him ask the ref if it was fine, then celebrating again when Marshall did.  It was horrible!

    Always a rollercoaster with Scotland!

Then the Ryan Christie interview got me...
