  1. So Multiversity was purified, super hero comics weirdo wizard Grant Morrison firing on all cylinders- if you are into that kind of thing.. I am.

I cannot wait for issue two, which will have some purty Chris Sprouse art. The wait for Cameron Stewart on a Marvel family tale and Frank Quietly on the Charlton Comics-based issue will also be adverse for this Morrison fan.

  2. Anything with Frank Quitely is must read for me. Other artists that I can think of off the top of my head that get me jazzed would be: Chris Burnham, Declan Shlavey, John Romita Jr., Brandon Graham, Becky Cloonan, Jerome Opena, Greg Capullo, Steve Epting... Ehh I'll just stop there I could go on forever.

  3. Thanks for sharing (bumping) this. I was especially intrigued because I never really got through your top two favorite films. I saw most of these during an epic Miyazaki marathon TCM ran back in like 2006. Watching Spirited Away immediately followed by Princess Mononoke for the first time, on the first night of the marathon, was life changing. It was just something I randomly stumbled upon channel surfing at that.

I think I had become visually overstimulated in the midst of it that and did not finish Kiki's or Porco Rosso. I was very sleep deprived in school that week. So like I said, thanks for sharing. I'm looking forward to laying some fresh eyes on those and likely loving the hell out of them.

  4. This is HBO we're dealing with. It's not like they have ever been that strict with a timeframe for when a show has to air. It's not like people will cancel their subscriptions if they tune into HBO in the first week and True Detective isn't on. The multiple directors will the hurt the quality, IMO. That's what Season 1 one had that made it so great and unique, one vision directing with one voice crafting the story. It was essentially an 8-hour movie.

Yeah, having multiple directors is totally understandable, but still dissapointing. I remember some super early rumors had William Friedkin directing season two which would have been badass.

  5. I am a huge Remender fan and I don't think anyone can touch his dialogue in hero books right now. Additionally, I don't think anyone takes better advantage of the rich tapestry of characters and wackiness in the Marvel U than Remender. He even made a loathed-by-many Fantomex into my favorite Marvel character (when he writes him anyways).

As said, Uncanny X-Force and Uncanny Avengers have both been excellent reads. Even his Venom and Secret Avengers runs were fun. Hopefully AXIS is goodness too (who am I kidding it's gonna be a melodramatic blast). I'm also hella psyched for that Avengers GN he's doing with Jerome Opena.

While on the Marvel tip- Hickman's Avengers are hitting his Fantastic Four run sweet spot for me where all the pieces are falling into place and humming along in perfect harmony. Especially New Avengers. If you dig Marvel and mind-bending sci-fi, you owe it to yourself to check those runs out.

  6. I still wish Bill Simmons' fantasy casting of Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer would actually come to fruition. That'd be amazing and unhinged.

But season 2 should be quality regardless. I'm half way through Nick Pizzalatto's 'Galveston' right now and am enjoying it very much. It's helping with the TD withdrawl.

  7. I finally gave Broad City a chance and ended up polishing off the whole season in quick sucession. I also appreciated that you can see a little of Amy Poehler's infuence in the tone as a producer for the show. Her cameo in the finale was awesome.

A nice article that gives some background about the King in Yellow stuff that littered throughout True Detective.

Yeah that article is getting alot of attention amongst fans of the show. I thought these two WSJ pieces about the literary influences of this show were also really interesting.

    As for tonight's episode...

From my perspective this episode makes it pretty clear that the killer won't be Hart or Cohle. I think the best theory I've seen around is that this cosmic terror cult is deeply entrenched in the government and cultural institutions of the state and Hart and Cohle (atleast Cohle) are still working at the case on the down-low. The juxtoposition in the last two episodes between their on-record statements and the reality of how key events went down play a big factor into that reading. I mean Cohle voices his suspicion of the special task force in this episode. TL;DR THIS SHOW IS SO GOOD CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT EPISODE.

  9. Pass interference is rarely called on a last minute hail mary. Like, ever. The "real" refs wouldn't have called that either if you use history as your reference point.

Fair enough. Definitely something I would never have noticed if not for the confusion over the TD call.

  10. Wow, incredibly blatant offensive pass interference by Golden Tate that should've ended the game on a iffy TD call to begin with. As a Vikings fan, I love seeing the Packers get jobbed like this, but this has to be the straw that breaks the camel's back for the replacement refs.

  11. Holy shit that John Clayton ad is fucking incredible. I've always loved the insane 'John Clayton has a ponytail you can't see/John Clayton is in a wheel chair you can't' see rumors. I have to think this is slight acknowledgement of them, not to mention just a great, hilarious commercial.

  12. Watching hard knocks and the highlight is Tannehill not knowing what teams are in what division. He thought the Giants were in the north and the Chiefs in the East. Matt Moore asking "How do you not know this?" just made me laugh.

The other thing that killed me about that part was Tannehill being completely dumbfounded as to why Miami would geographically be considered for the eastern division of the AFC. Funny shit. Really good episode in general.

  13. Ha it's nice to know that someone remembers me VerbalPuke. As for where I've been, I still lurk around from time to time and my musical tastes are constantly changing. I'm really into the popular drone stuff right now such as Boris and Sunn0)) and I just went through a real intense Nancy Sinatra/Lee Hazlewood phase but anywho, yeah the rough trade compilations are often a great place to start with new music. I got the post punk one to start off and I recently picked up the country set on a whim and have ended up getting into alot of the artists on it. I've been snagging everything by Giant Sand, X, Golden Smog and Songs: Ohia after a few listens.
