The 2004 Spike TV VGAs Topic

For some reason, I found the show a little better than last year's. (Then again, last year's show was the equilvalent of Showgirls IMO when it came to TV broadcasts) That said, the show was pretty stupid with once again more emphasis on popular games than good games. (because Spike feels better alienating the "hardcore" base for the casual crowd  )

And that sucks.

99% of those people should never be allowed in front of a teleprompter again... the most single handed atrocity in television award shows I've seen in quite some time... and I've watched the Cable Ace Awards. And of course they're going to alienate "hardcore" gamers... they're still looked at as big nerds, while it's cool for guys like Snoop to play Madden or whatever other big game. I guess it could be considered somewhat of a victory for the gaming community that they get their own award show, but if that's the idea of the pinnacle of what designers should strive for and the cap off to a year in video games, I'd rather stay a big fucking dork.

GAME OF THE YEAR

Burnout 3: Takedown (Electronic Arts)

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (Rockstar Games)

Half-Life 2 (Vivendi Universal Games)

Halo 2 (Microsoft Game Studios)

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (Konami)

I love it when they add in the olbligatory "shit game that doesn't stand a chance" to the Game of the Year category. I mean, seriously, who's going to vote for Burnout3? Why even bother adding it to the nominations?
