Downfall

I saw it last week, and thought it was absolutely fantastic.

For those who don't know, it's a German-made movie that pretty much focuses entirely on Hitler and the highest ranking Nazis he surrounded himself with , taking place right at the end of the Second World War.

I thought the acting was fantastic, and loved the way that they portrayed Hitler pretty much being in denial about what was going on right to the end.

The majority of the movie does take place in the bunker, but there is still a decent ammount of combat going on as the Russians get farther and farther into Berlin. The cobat stuff is also very realistic, and really well shot. The entire movie had a very realistic style to it, which I thought made everything work even more successfully.

You can tell that they tried to be as historically accurate as they could with the movie, and they pulled it off perfectly. Obviously, it seems a bit of a touchy area to make a film which focuses entirely on the high-ranking Nazi officers as the protagonists, but it was pulled off really well, as nothing was really glorified or anything there.

The movie really did just show what was going on from more-or-less of a neutral point of view, letting the characters get sympathy within the context of what was going on, since I'm not sure how well a "Aww, poor Heinrich Himmler!" film would be recieved.

Over-all, I thought it was one of the better movies I have seen in a while, and definitely recommend it to anyone who's a fan of WWII history, even though I don't think you neccessarily *need* to be to enjoy it (though having an idea of who's-who might help a bit).
