British 125 GP Rider Dies

Meh - It hasn't be posted, the new's is a bit old but I just found out about it before. I'd never heard of him before and I'm sure no one else has either but it's still terrible.

The tenth round of the British 125GP Championship, at Cadwell Park on Monday, was marred by the tragic death of Chris Jones.

The fourteen-year-old Red Bull Rookie was caught up in a start-line accident involving nine riders. He was flown by the Yorkshire Air Ambulance to Hull Royal Infirmary, where he sadly succumbed to his injuries this morning (Tuesday).

"To have a fatality in motorsport is always terribly sad, but for a 14-year old to lose his life is quite devastating and my thoughts are mainly of course with Chris's family, but also his team and the many friends he had in the motor cycle racing world," said Jonathan Palmer, chief executive of MotorSport Vision.

"Chris was an extremely talented young rider who was surely destined for great future success. He had been racing bikes since the age of nine and had competed in over 60 races in that time. I have watched him compete many times in 125cc races at our circuits and admired his talent. Chris was absolutely passionate about his sport and it showed in his results.

"I would also like to pay tribute to the most professional work undertaken by event organisers MCRCB, and the emergency and medical team at Cadwell Park yesterday who, together with Yorkshire Air Ambulance and staff at Hull Royal Infirmary, did everything they could possibly do to save Chris's life," he concluded.

Jones was competing in his first season with the Red Bull Honda squad and was proving his talent, with two wins and several further podium finishes to his name. He was third in the points coming into the Cadwell Park event and destined for a bright future.

Carl Thomas Andrews (14) sustained a right shoulder injury in the same accident and was transferred by ambulance to Lincoln Hospital, while Jon Vincent (38) sustained abdominal injuries and was transferred by ambulance to Grimsby Hospital.

Been all over around here. He was in the school I go to sixth form at and I think he would of been in year 10. His Mom and Dad own a motorbike shop in town, just minutes away from me house and that's had follows outside it since the tradegy. 2 other lads (17 and 18 years old) also died in incidents in the same week

I never knew him but about he was talented. RIP
