Zero Tolerance

Friday January W3, 2006

What will go down this Friday night on SmackDown, just four days after Vince McMahon issued a 'zero tolerance' policy between WWE Champion John Cena and World Heavyweight Champion Batista? McMahon is making it tough for Batista and Cena not to break the policy as he has booked them to team together this week! The two champions will have to learn to work together before they can take each other apart at the Royal Rumble.

Also this Friday night Kane battles Booker T in match six of the Best-of-Seven Series for the United States Championship. Will Booker T's assault on Kane this past Monday night affect this match? Is Kane at a psychological disadvantage after being a victim to Booker T on the last two shows? We'll find out on Friday night when either the series will be tied at 3-3 or Booker T will be walking away United States Champion!

Triple H, and everybody else, was baffled by the interruption from Rob Van Dam's theme and video last Monday night on RAW. The event saved Edge from a Pedigree, but Triple H will look to finish what he started this Friday as he meets Edge in singles action.

Ric Flair picked up another huge victory on RAW, albeit with interference from Randy Orton, when he beat Kurt Angle 1 - 2 - 3. Angle will surely want to get his hands on Orton this Friday.

Last Friday on SmackDown Shelton Benjamin failed to live up to his promise of a victory against William Regal, although it was more down to the influence of Paul Burchill rather than his 'new attitude'. Benjamin seeks revenge when he battles Burchill on SmackDown.

Tune into SmackDown this week - TV that's changing Friday nights, at 8/7 CT on UPN!

WWE Signings

Friday, January W3, 2006

The wrestling rumour-mill has been buzzing lately. It looks like WWE has begun to bring in a few more people following the massive roster cuts. These fresh new faces won't be debuting any time soon, they will likely see a good few months at least in development at OVW or DSW.

The first new signing that we can confirm is James Gibson (Jamie Noble). He had a good run with the WWE before, but was released from his contract. A couple of months ago he spoke to WWE about a possible re-signing but nothing seemed to come of it. It has now, though, and it seems Gibson will go back to his old moniker of 'Jamie Noble' and return to the Cruiserweight division, which lost quite a few stars in the huge roster cut a few weeks ago. Noble may spend a couple of weeks in OVW at the most, but it is more likely he'll go straight to television with a couple of dark matches here and there.

It also seems as if TNA has been raided. Some of its big names have been snapped up by WWE and they will likely check into OVW or DSW and learn to work the WWE style before they debut on television. The names that we can confirm are:

  • Tracy Brooks

  • Lance Hoyt

  • Chris Sabin

  • Petey Williams

There have also been rumours flying around that Alex Shelley was approached, but nothing has been confirmed. We'll keep you up to date.

WHAT: WWE Friday Night SmackDown!

WHEN: Friday, January W3, 2006

WHERE: Bryce Jordan Center, University Park, PA

CROWD: 15,000

Shelton Benjamin v. Paul Burchill w/William Regal. After playing a big part in Shelton Benjamin's loss to William Regal last week, Paul Burchill got a chance to take Benjamin on one-on-one. It wouldn't turn out that way, though, as Regal used every opportunity to intervene in the match from ringside, tripping Shelton and even shoving him off of the top rope to the outside. Shelton's resilience kept him in the match and his new attitude lead him to leap onto Regal on the outside. Burchill looked to lock in the Royal Mutilation, but Shelton got to the ropes quickly. Benjamin connected with the Dragon Whip and, shortly after, the T-Bone Suplex! Shelton went for the pin, but Regal came into the ring and began stomping away on him, causing the referee to ring the bell for a disqualification.

Burchill and Regal double teamed Shelton following the match, Regal releasing some stiff punches and then Burchill locking in the Royal Mutilation. They looked happy with what they had done as they left Shelton nursing his injuries.

We were then shown a brief clip of World Heavyweight Champion Batista arriving at the arena earlier tonight, signing autographs for fans. Cole and Tazz commentated over the clip and discussed Batista's match with John Cena at the Royal Rumble, and also how the two had to team up tonight on orders of Vince McMahon.

Lashley v. Matt Striker. Two relatively new WWE Superstars did battle in what some saw as a mismatch, being that Lashley is the much bigger and stronger of the two. It began as one would expect with Lashley dominating the action and punishing Striker with powerful moves and getting the crowd behind him. Striker came back and connected with a couple of high-risk moves from the top rope, but Lashley recovered quickly and felt nothing when Striker tried to clothesline him - twice. Striker went for a third, but was instead caught with a boot to the gut and the Dominator followed. Lashley picked up the three and the victory.

Lashley was announced the winner, but his celebration was cut short as The Boogeyman's music hit and a lot of smoke filled the ring, masking everything from sight. After a minute or so the smoke began to clear and we saw The Boogeyman in the ring! Lashley looked on from a few feet away, bemused, as The Boogeyman stared him down before turning to Striker, pulling a handful of worms from his pocket and forcing them down the former school teacher's throat. Lashley looked disgusted as The Boogeyman slid out of the ring and retreated up the aisle.

Ken Kennedy was standing by backstage with his guests Booker T and Sharmell. Kennedy asked why Booker couldn't hold on to a lead, bashing his in-ring skills, and particularly his patented 'Spin-a-Roonie'. Before Booker could respond, Sharmell got in Kennedy's face and yelled at him before Kennedy held a hand up to her and informed her that the question was directed at Booker. Sharmell looked angry, but Booker calmed her down before telling Kennedy that the drama of this Best-of-7 Series was about to come to an end. He said that he would defeat Kane tonight, 1-2-3 and walk away with the United States Championship before going on to the Royal Rumble in nine days and winning the prestigious Rumble match itself. Booker had the last word, saying there was no way Kane would win another match because if he did match number seven would be at the Royal Rumble, which would cost Booker his Royal Rumble spot - and that wasn't going to happen.

Edge w/Lita v. Triple H. This grudge match got underway with Triple H dominating the in-ring action and forcing Edge to take breathers on the outside, regrouping with Lita. This pattern continued until 'The Game' followed Edge out and beat him up on the outside, using the commentary desk and steel steps as aids. Edge would fight back in the ring, though, and nail Triple H with a missile dropkick off of the top. Then, just like last Monday night on RAW, Rob Van Dam's theme music and video played. Cole and Tazz were questioning this, as RVD wasn't scheduled to be back until RAW next Monday. The distraction allowed Triple H to come back and hit Edge with a facebuster and a neckbreaker for a near fall. The match continued and Edge managed to lock his opponent in the Edgecator. 'The Game' managed to get to the ropes and then connect with the Pedigree! He couldn't capitalise, though, as Lita helped Edge to roll outside of the ring. A few moments later, Edge connected with the Spear but was too fatigued to make the cover. As the two men staggered to their feet, Rob Van Dam showed! Van Dam jumped out from the crowd with a steel chair and hopped into the ring. The intruder smacked both Edge and Triple H with the chair, causing a double disqualification/no contest ruling. RVD then put Edge and Triple H's motionless bodies on top of each other and hit a Five Star Frog Splash before exiting through the crowd. The crowd, Michael Cole and Tazz went crazy at Van Dam's appearance.

A Royal Rumble video was then played, highlighting a past memory of the Rumble match. This one was from 1999 when Vince McMahon won the Rumble.

Backstage we saw Vince McMahon yelling at Rob Van Dam who had been grabbed and restrained by security. McMahon told security to take Van Dam away as he wasn't scheduled to be here tonight and therefore was a trespasser. Before they did, though, the Chairman punished Van Dam for his interference in Edge and Triple H's match - RVD would face both Edge and 'The Game' in a handicap match next Monday on RAW!

Another video was played, this one highlighted the Best-of-Seven Series for the vacant United States Championship so far. It began with the three Booker T wins and Sharmell's carrying of a broom to indicate a 'sweep' that never happened. Benoit's victory at Armageddon to make it 3-1 followed and then Vince McMahon's announcement that Kane would replace Benoit in the series. Kane's victory over Booker T to make the series score 3-2 finished the package.

Kane v. Booker T w/Sharmell - Match 6 in the Best-of-Seven Series. Booker T took the momentum early after Kane missed a big boot and was side-kicked over the top rope. Booker tried an aerial assault, but his dive from the apron resulted in a slam into the ring post by 'The Big Red Monster'. Kane overpowered his opponent, but was out-done in the ring when an awry big boot landed Kane groin-first on the top rope. Booker followed with another kick to topple Kane over to the outside. Booker wore Kane down in the ring with a rear chin lock, but Kane battled back and connected with a sidewalk slam. Booker rallied with chops and punches, but a Book End only got him two. He then attempted the Scissors Kick, but Kane dodged it and hit an inverted suplex. 'The Big Red Monster' put some offense together, culminating with a high-flying clothesline off of the top rope. Booker escaped a Chokeslam with a kick to the gut but again missed the Scissors Kick. Kane looked for a Tombstone, but another counter from Booker prevented it. Booker went up-top, but was caught by the throat and Chokeslammed mercilessly to the mat. Kane rolled into the cover and picked up the three count in a hard-fought match. Kane had done the unthinkable and tied the series at 3-3 after Booker T had been up 3-0!

The cameras went backstage to see 'The Legend Killer' Randy Orton walking backstage, looking cocky as usual and briefly chatting up some women. Kurt Angle then came out of nowhere and beat Orton to the floor with clubbing blows. Angle continued the assault, throwing Orton into walls, tables, crates and even doors. Kurt then threw Orton into a stack of boxes with an overhead belly-to-belly suplex. Not content with his work, Angle continued the beating and drilled Randy with the Angle Slam onto the concrete floor. Many crew members and medical staff quickly rushed to Orton's aid with Angle laughing from a distance.

After a commerical break we saw Kurt Angle retreating from the damage he caused, still laughing. Vince McMahon walked up behind him, not at all happy with the Olympian's actions. McMahon said Kurt would have to pay for his actions - Monday night on RAW when he will battle Randy Orton in a Street Fight! Angle looked annoyed by McMahon's decision and he stormed away.

We then went elsewhere backstage to Jerry 'The King' Lawler who was standing by with WWE Champion John Cena. Lawler questioned Cena on whether he and Batista will be able to work as a cohesive unit tonight with their Royal Rumble Unification match just nine days away. Cena responded by saying that he and 'The Animal' Batista are both professionals and have shown it through their championship reigns - therefore, they should be able to get along until the Royal Rumble. Cena said he would team up with Batista tonight because he had to. He would also 'not physically provoke or harm Batista' because he was being prevented from doing so. At the Rumble, however, Cena would 'beat Batista and become the undisputed World Champion' because he is better than Batista. Cena left and headed towards the ring for the main event of the evening.

World Heavyweight Champion Batista & WWE Champion John Cena v. Carlito & Chris Masters. The tag team main event got underway and the champions dominated working well as a team. Cena would be isolated by Carlito and Masters, who also worked together well, using frequent tags to keep a fresh man in the ring at all times. Cena battled back and hit the spinning-out powerbomb on Masters and followed up with the Five Knuckle Shuffle for a near fall. Cena made the tag and the World Heavyweight Champion cleaned house. He connected with a spinebuster on Carlito and then a Batista Bomb on Masters! Batista looked to have the match won when for some reason he tagged in his fatigued partner. Cena looked questioningly at Batista, who exited the ring, picked up his title and began to walk to the back! Cena yelled after him, but it was no good as 'The Animal' kept on walking. Carlito and Masters looked for a double team, but Cena overcame it. The WWE Champion was soon locked in The Master Lock as the numbers game became too much, but Chris Masters wasn't the legal man so he released the hold. Carlito was the legal man and he punished Cena with a modified neckbreaker for the three count and the huge upset victory! Carlito and Masters celebrated as Cena was left in the ring, obviously angry at Batista's actions. SmackDown went off the air.

Good match to start the show. Atleast Shelton didn't lose, I'm thinking you're going to bring someone in to even things up with Regal/Birchill, but I don't know who.

I plea with you, don't do Boogeyman/Lashley, that might be the single worst feud ever. Hopefully it was just one of Boogeyman's random appearances.

Wow, Van Dam appears...I don't know why...but he did! I can't see where you're going with this one, you could put in a three way, but I wouldn't get what Van Dam has against them...maybe it's just his way of coming back? If so, then having the music go off twice in the matches was a waste...

Batista walking out on Cena is interesting, I like where you're going with the whole feud, you've got me interested with this one. I still don't know who to root for or who I think will go over...

Six Days Away

Monday January W4, 2006

The Royal Rumble will be just six days away when RAW comes to your screens this Monday night. The card for the pay-per-view is jam-packed, from the Rumble match itself to a Unification match where we will crown an undisputed World Champion.

Speaking of the World Champions, tune into RAW to see WWE Champion John Cena's reaction to Batista leaving him two-on-one in SmackDown's main event last Friday. It obviously cannot be a physical reaction because of Vince McMahon's 'zero tolerance' policy. Batista will be in singles action as he meets 'The Masterpiece' Chris Masters.

Also on RAW this week Randy Orton meets Kurt Angle in a Street Fight. Vince McMahon ordered this match after Angle's backstage assault on Orton last Friday. Tension is building between 'The Legend Killer' and the Olympic Gold Medalist and this Monday's match might only exasperate it. This one's sure to continue into the Rumble match, which both men will be a part of on Sunday.

Last Friday night on SmackDown, Rob Van Dam made a somewhat premature return. He wasn't scheduled to be on SmackDown and after invading the Edge versus Triple H match, Vince has forced 'Mr Pay-Per-View' to battle both men in a handicap match on RAW this week. Van Dam is at a huge disadvantage, but can Edge and 'The Game' work as a team? And will we get any answers as to why RVD did what he did?

Kane picked up the victory in match six of the Best-of-Seven Series against Booker T on SmackDown, levelling the score at 3-3. The seventh and final encounter will happen at the Royal Rumble, but both participants will be in attendance this Monday. Booker T will see action in a 'warm-up match' for this Sunday's all-important bout. Kane will be watching closely to see if he can pick up any advantages going into match seven.

You don't want to miss RAW this Monday night, 9/8 CT on the USA Network.

WHAT: WWE RAW

WHEN: Monday, January W4, 2006

WHERE: Copps Coliseum, Hamilton, Ontario CA

CROWD: 15,000

Paul London v. Booker T w/Sharmell. Booker T's 'warm-up match' for the seventh and final match in the Best-of-Seven Series for the United States Title would be against former Cruiserweight Champion of the World, Paul London. London's pace and fearless attitude put him on top in the early going as Booker took to the outside, only to be leaped on by London, jumping out from the ring. London would attempt an asai moonsault from the apron, but Booker caught him mid-move and slammed him to the floor. Booker continued to work London's back, using an array of different holds to apply pressure to the already damaged area. The never-say-die-attitude that London had kept him in it and the crowd willed him on, leading to him mounting a comeback that was capped off with an impressive top-rope hurricanrana. Both men were down, but managed to get themselves up to trade blows in the middle of the ring. London connected with a dropsault and set Booker in position for a top-rope move, but Booker countered with a superplex. The former United States Champion began to rally and hit his trademark moves before finishing off London with the Book End.

Following the bell to signal the end of the evening's opening bout, 'The Big Red Monster' Kane rushed to the ring and jumped Booker T. Booker tried to fight back, but was too fatigued and Kane took advantage with throat thrusts. Kane's Chokeslam attempt was blocked with a gut kick but Booker's following Scissors Kick missed the mark. Booker jumped to his feet only to be clotheslined over the top rope by his Royal Rumble opponent. Kane stood tall in the squared circle as Sharmell lead Booker T up the ramp and backstage.

Vince McMahon was in his office when Rob Van Dam walked in, the crowd cheering for him wildly. McMahon said he was glad Van Dam was there and he demanded an apology and an explanation of his actions last Friday night on SmackDown when he interrupted a match between Edge and Triple H, attacking both competitors. RVD said that he wouldn't apologise to Vince, but he would explain. Apparently Van Dam wanted to prove that he is 'a main event player that can go with the likes of Triple H and Edge'. Basically, RVD said that he had been 'the man' in ECW, that he was 'at the top of the extreme mountain'. His success in WWE so far had not reached that point and Van Dam was going to make himself the star he was in ECW, he was going to be a main eventer, he was going to be the World Champion because he felt he had to prove to everybody that he is still the best, still 'Mr Pay-Per-View' - and he was going to use 'extreme means' to do so. RVD left the Chairman's office leaving Vince with a look of disapproval on his face.

Matt Hardy w/Rey Mysterio v. Joey Mercury w/Melina, Johnny Nitro. This singles match would be between two of the eight competitors in next Sunday's four-way tag team elimination match for the vacant World Tag Team Championship. Each man was accompanied by his tag team partner, and Mercury also had Melina at ringside. The match got off to a fast start with both men locking up and proceeding to pull off some exciting chain wrestling. Hardy went for the Side Effect, but Mercury battled out and hit a DDT. The match continued to be even until Johnny Nitro tripped Matt Hardy up. Mercury took advantage and connected with a jumping side kick for a near fall. It would be Rey Mysterio's turn to intervene when he connected with a modified 619 to Mercury late in the match-up. Melina distracted Matt Hardy, but Mercury was countered and Hardy hit a scoop slam, followed by a second-rope leg drop for a two. Hardy looked for the Twist of Fate but Snitsky suddenly appeared in the ring. Hardy was attacked as Tyson Tomko entered the ring and nailed Mercury with a big boot. The referee called for a no contest ruling as chaos ensued. Rey Mysterio and Johnny Nitro joined the mix as a six-man brawl erupted. The Mexicools then ran down the ramp, Juventud directing traffic, giving Psicosis and Super Crazy his orders. All eight men involved in the World Tag Team Titles match at the Royal Rumble were now in the ring, trading blows.

The focus of the cameras then changed to Juventud at ringside as Kid Kash jumped the Cruiserweight Champion. Kash quickly laid 'The Juice' out with a devastating Brainbuster - on the steel ramp. Juventud lay motionless and Kash fixated his vision on the Cruiserweight belt. RAW went to a commercial break as the in-ring chaos continued and Juventud was down and completely out of it on the entrance ramp.

Next up, Ken Kennedy stood backstage and introduced himself as usual before his guest, WWE Champion John Cena, walked into the scene. Kennedy asked how Cena felt after being made to look a fool by Batista last week on SmackDown. Cena said he didn't look like a fool, but Kennedy did. After insulting Kennedy a little more the champion focused his attention on World Heavyweight Champion Batista. Cena said that Batista was clever, he managed to get into Cena's head without violating the 'zero tolerance' policy that Vince McMahon had introduced. Cena said he could be clever, too, and he would get his revenge before their Royal Rumble match - without violating the policy.

Rob Van Dam v. Edge w/Lita & Triple H. Edge and Triple H were not the ideal pair to team up and it showed before the match even got underway as Lita had to seperate them and focus them on their opponent instead of each other. Rob Van Dam made his return to RAW to the delight of the fans, who nearly blew the roof off of the Copps Coliseum. The handicap match got underway after Edge and Triple H bickered as to who would start in the ring. RVD took control over Edge to begin with and connected with numerous hard-hitting kicks. Triple H would be tagged in, although unwillingly so, and he went to work. Van Dam tried to use his aerial offense, but was cut off when a top rope flying cross body was countered into a backbreaker by 'The Game'. Triple H continued to beat down his opponent with punches to the head and a neckbreaker to get a near fall. Van Dam rallied back and Edge refused to let Triple H tag him in as Van Dam was on fire. RVD hit the Rolling Thunder, but Triple H rolled a shoulder out. 'The Game' hit a spinebuster out of nowhere and Edge tagged in. 'Mr Money in the Bank' stalked Van Dam, looking for the Spear. RVD was able to dodge the move, though, and Edge once again connected with Triple H! Edge once again laughed until he was kicked in the head from behind by RVD. Van Dam went to work on Edge and hit an enziguri, followed up by a spinning leg drop for two. Edge was down in the center of the ring and RVD headed up top, only to have Edge move out of the way. Triple H was back up by this time and he came back into the ring and gave his own partner a Pedigree! 'The Game' left the ring as Edge rolled into a perfect position for Van Dam to hit the Five Star Frog Splash, which he did! The pinfall was academic. Rob Van Dam had overcome the odds and escaped with the win, albeit due to conflict between his opponents.

Following the match we went backstage to see Batista warming up for his match tonight. 'The Animal' suddenly stopped as the camera swung around to reveal that John Cena had just entered the room. The two got in each other's face before Cena stepped back, offered Batista a handshake and wished him good luck for his match tonight. Batista, somewhat suspiciously, completed the handshake and watched as Cena grinned and left the locker room.

RAW's announce team of Joey Styles and Jerry 'The King' Lawler then ran down the Royal Rumble card so far, Styles announcing the matches and Lawler giving his thoughts on them. So far there's the four team elimination match for the vacant World Tag Team Championship between MNM, Matt Hardy & Rey Mysterio, Snitsky & Tyson Tomko and The Mexicools' Psicosis and Super Crazy, Juventud's defense of the Cruiserweight Championship of the World against 'the notorious K-I-D' Kid Kash, match seven in the Best-of-Seven Series to determine an undisputed United States Champion between Booker T and Kane, the unification match between Batista and John Cena to unify the World Heavyweight and WWE Titles and of course the Royal Rumble match itself between thirty WWE Superstars with the winner getting a shot at the World Championship and the chance to headline WrestleMania 22.

World Heavyweight Champion Batista v. Chris Masters. This was a match-up between two very powerful and dominant WWE Superstars. Batista had an experience edge but Masters took it to the champion as the match got underway. Masters went for an axe handle, but Batista ducked and hit a big clothesline that roared the fans into gear, getting behind the champion and starting to chant 'Ba-tis-ta! Ba-tis-ta!'. 'The Animal' sent Masters into the corner and followed in with shoulder thrusts before connecting with a powerslam for a near fall. Masters rallied back and went for The Master Lock, but Batista was able to power out before he could cinch it in. Batista then clotheslined Masters to the outside as WWE Champion John Cena made his way down to ringside. The two champions exchanged looks before Batista continued to dominate Masters on the outside. As the action returned to the ring, Masters accidentally took out the referee with an axe handle when Batista dodged the move. Batista hit a Spinebuster, but there was no referee to count. As Batista checked on the referee, John Cena grabbed a steel chair from ringside and slid it into the ring, towards Masters. Cena then got up on the apron and distracted Batista as Masters got to his feet, steel chair in hand. 'The Animal' turned around but managed to duck the chair which he then snatched away and waffled Masters with. Cena looked on in anger as his plan had backfired. Batista drilled Masters with a Batista Bomb as the referee came to - just in time to count the three. Batista celebrated with his World Heavyweight Champion and stared down John Cena after the match - Batista had won this round.

Following commercials we returned to the locker room backstage. Kurt Angle was standing there in his ring attire and his 'American by Birth' t-shirt. The Olympian kissed his gold medal but moments later he was blindsided as Randy Orton dived into the picture and took him out! The two began brawling in the locker room and then made their way out into the hall. The two exchanged blows and battled throughout the backstage area, using various weapons they found on their way such as a cardboard box, a metal pipe and even a fire extinguisher. The cameras followed them around the backstage area, through a concession stand and eventually they made their way out into the crowd. A referee was now following them - the main event street fight was underway!

Kurt Angle v. Randy Orton in a Street Fight. Both men battled through the crowd and up and down the arena steps, throwing each other around mercilessly. The fight eventually got to the ringside area as Orton threw Angle over the barricade and followed up with a flying clothesline off of the barrier. The two participants brawled around ringside each having an equal amount of offense until Angle dropped Orton face-first onto the steel steps with a drop toe hold. Angle then tossed the steel steps inside the ring, as well as a steel chair. The Olympian shoved his adversary into the squared circle and mounted him, clobbering him with fist blows to the head. He then reached for the steel chair, but Orton had staggered to his feet and was able to dropkick the chair, which bounced back and smacked Kurt Angle in the head! The two men pulled themselves up, Kurt with blood trickling down his face from the chair. Orton went for an RKO, but Angle countered by pushing him onto the steel steps! Randy climbed outside the ring and Angle followed. The Olympic Gold Medalist continued to brutalize his opponent with punches before connecting with an overhead belly-to-belly suplex on the outside. Back inside the ring Randy Orton got some momentum back with a modified backbreaker that got a two count. 'The Legend Killer' reached for the steel chair used earlier, but Angle ducked and tripped Orton before cinching in the Ankle Lock. The hold was on tight, but Orton managed to grab the chair once again, turn onto his back and deliver a shot to Angle's head to release the move. Angle escaped the ring and pulled something out from underneath the apron before returning back in between the ropes. Orton looked to cause further damage with the chair, but Angle threw a white powder into his eyes, temporarily blinding his opponent! Kurt then nailed Orton with a DDT onto the steel chair! Kurt was slow to capitalise and as a result could only draw a two count from the referee. He looked to end the match then and there with an Angle Slam, but Orton kicked out. The Ankle Lock was applied again but Orton would escape the submission hold and moments later connect with the RKO! Orton crawled slowly towards his opponent and draped one arm over for the pin, but Angle rolled a shoulder up at two and three quarters. Orton signalled for another RKO while stalking the Olympian, but Angle blocked it and connected with another Angle Slam - this one on the steel ring steps! Angle then grabbed the steps and put them on top of Orton before standing on the steps and pressing Orton to the mat! With no way to kick out, Orton was pinned for the three. The final picture as RAW went off the air was Kurt Angle standing on the steel steps, taunting the trapped 'Legend Killer'.

Wow, great show. I loved everything on it, especially the final couple matches. I can see Cena turning heel which is something we've all wanted to see for a long, long time.

And the Angle/Orton battle was great aswell, but I still don't know where that feud is going and who is playing the face or the heel.

I'm really looking forward to Smackdown and then Rumble, should be a fun ride.

I really really love this diary. Just like your first WWE diary this is brilliant infact its better than brilliant. I'll just go through what i think about the fueds so far.

- I think the Cruiserweight match should of got a bit more segments but i still look forward to it.

- I like the Tag Team Turmoil bout. I really wanna see how you write it out but the only problem is that you decided to keep Gene Snitsky and Tomko when u could of created a tag team out of some of the good wrestlers you released.

- I am enjoying what your doing with Booker T. Despite Kane looking like the favourite , i hope Booker takes the gold and wins this one. Great little fued allthough i dislike the constant post match attacking Kane does when he could play mind games or something like that.

- I still have no clue who will win this unification match. Im pretty sure it won't be the best match but eh hopefully you give it a big conclusion.

- The thing im msot excited about is the Rumble , i allways find it to be the best match style to write and when a class writer like you wrties it up im sure it's going to be good.

One question though. When Angle beat Orton this week , does that make him no.1 contender or does he still have to compete in the Rumble ??

Why would he be number one contender? It wasn't a match to decide a contender. Both of them are in the Royal Rumble match.

Getting Ready to Rumble

Friday January W4, 2006

One week ago on SmackDown, World Heavyweight Champion Batista left his Royal Rumble opponent, WWE Champion John Cena, to fend for himself two-on-one against Carlito and Chris Masters. Cena subsequently lost the match and this past Monday on RAW Cena vowed to get revenge on 'The Animal'. His plan didn't quite work out the way he wished, though, as Batista overcame Cena's input and walked out the victor against Chris Masters. Batista has the advantage at this point in time, but will the WWE Champion be able to level the playing field before the two champions clash at the Rumble?

Monday night's main event saw Kurt Angle defeat Randy Orton in a Street Fight. The two have been dueling verbally as well as physically over the past couple of weeks. Both men will be competitors in this Sunday's Royal Rumble and both will also be in seperate matches this Friday night on SmackDown. With the feud that has been building between these two it will be hard to keep them apart on Friday.

Rob Van Dam returned to in-ring action on RAW when he overcame the odds and beat Edge and Triple H in a handicap match. Edge's inadvertent Spear to 'The Game' was returned with a Pedigree from the former World Champion. Van Dam revealed to Vince McMahon that he wanted to prove himself as one of the business' elite superstars and he will use 'extreme measures' to do so. What does this mean and will we find out on SmackDown? All three of these Superstars are scheduled to be in the Royal Rumble match on Sunday. Triple H will be the guest on Carlito's Cabana this Friday.

Kid Kash's assault on Cruiserweight Champion of the World, Juventud, last Monday means that the champion will not be on SmackDown this week, but will we get any information on his status? Will 'The Juice' be able to make it to his title defense at the Royal Rumble or has Kid Kash put Juvi out of commission?

Things heated up on RAW in regards to the tag team division as all four teams that clash for the vacant World Tag Team Championship took part in an uncontrollable brawl. One of those teams, Snitsky and Tyson Tomko will be in action on Friday when they meet Val Venis and Hardcore Holly in tag team competition.

Booker T defeated Paul London last Monday night in what was seen as a 'warm-up match' for his clash with Kane this Sunday at the Rumble. Kane will get his 'warm-up' on SmackDown. Will either Kane or Booker T grab an advantage going into match seven of the Best-of-Seven Series for the vacant United States Title? Only one thing is for certain; when SmackDown comes to your television sets this Friday we will be just two days away from naming a new United States Champion!

Tune into SmackDown this week, just two days away from the Royal Rumble, at 8/7 CT on UPN!

WWE Pay-Per-View Schedule

Since the brand split's demise earlier this year, the WWE has been re-working their current pay-per-view schedule to suit the one roster. Here is the line-up for the coming year:

January: Royal Rumble (W4)

February: No Way Out (W3)

March: N/A

April: WrestleMania 22 (W1), Backlash (W4)

May: Judgment Day (W3)

June: Vengeance (W4)

July: The Great American Bash (W4)

August: SummerSlam (W3)

September: Unforgiven (W3)

October: No Mercy (W3)

November: Survivor Series (W4)

December: Armageddon (W3)

There is no pay-per-view in March because, once again, WrestleMania trickles into the first weekend of April. It looks like Taboo Tuesday will be dropped, which is a sensible move because with just the one roster, things could get a little cramped PPV-wise. Take note that this is not a final schedule, the first few months (up to May) are confirmed as WWE has booked the arenas for the events, but everything after that is subject to change.

WHAT: WWE Friday Night SmackDown!

WHEN: Friday, January W4, 2006

WHERE: Pacific Coliseum, Vancouver, British Columbia CA

CROWD: 15,000

Just two days before the Royal Rumble, Friday Night SmackDown kicked off from Vancouver, British Columbia with another edition of Carlito's Cabana. Carlito reminded the fans that the Royal Rumble was just forty-eight hours away and that his guest on the Cabana this week would be one of the thirty entrants - 'The Game' Triple H. The former World Champion made his way to the ring, completing his water-spitting ritual on the way. Carlito commented that his guest's entrance 'was cool' before questioning 'The Game' about the Royal Rumble match. Triple H said that he was the clear favorite for the prestigious match as he has not only won it before but he's a former World Champion and 'the best this business has ever seen'. Triple H began to talk of his current events - the feud that seems to be building between he, Edge and Rob Van Dam - but before he could say anything more Rob Van Dam's theme music blasted around the arena. 'Mr Pay-Per-View' made his way into the Cabana and quickly shut Carlito up before predicting to Triple H that 'Rob Van Dam will be the winner of the Royal Rumble'. Van Dam said that there was no denying that Triple H was 'up there with the best of them' but Van Dam said he was back in the WWE to elevate his game past that of the likes of 'The Game' and Edge. Before he could go any further, though, Edge interrupted him. 'Mr Money in the Bank' approached the ring with Lita at his side as usual. Edge said that it was good to see somebody [Rob Van Dam] recognising that Edge was the premier Superstar in the WWE today. He then shot down Van Dam's goal of becoming a bigger Superstar than he himself is before insulting Triple H and proclaiming that Edge would be the winner of the Royal Rumble. The three nearly came to blows until Carlito cut them off and promptly ended this edition of the Cabana, exiting the ring after insisting that he, not any of them, would be the Royal Rumble winner.

Following a commercial break we were taken backstage into the office of WWE Chairman Vince McMahon. Chris Masters walked in the room and asked why Vince had called him into his office. McMahon said that Chris Masters had impressed him last Friday night on SmackDown when he and Carlito beat the team of World Heavyweight Champion Batista and WWE Champion John Cena. Masters thanked his boss, but it was a bit prematurely as Vince went on to insult Masters' efforts when he lost to Batista on RAW this past Monday. 'The Masterpiece' tried to make some excuses, but he was cut off as the Chairman told him he was giving him a chance to 'redeem' himself tonight in the main event. Masters again thanked the boss, but again Vince would follow with some bad news - Masters would face World Heavyweight Champion Batista and WWE Champion John Cena in a handicap match!

Hardcore Holly & Val Venis v. Tyson Tomko & Snitsky. Not your usual tag team match with all four men being known for their brawling abilities rather than anything else, including tag team skills. The experience of Val Venis and Hardcore Holly set 'The Veterans' up with the momentum advantage in the first few minutes of the bout, but Tomko would dodge a double clothesline and watch Snitsky take out his opponents with a double clothesline by himself. That would be the turning point in the match as Tomko and Snitsky dominated from then, Snitsky picking up the pinfall victory with a Pumphandle Slam on Val Venis, setting them up nicely for the four team elimination bout at the Royal Rumble.

RAW commentator and part-time interviewer Jerry 'The King' Lawler stood backstage with the former WWE Tag Team Champions Joey Mercury and Johnny Nitro with Melina - MNM. Lawler barely got a question out as he was busy drooling over Melina. He managed to splutter out a question as to MNM's thoughts of their chances in the four team title match at the Royal Rumble. Melina served as MNM's mouthpiece here as she said that the 'smart man' would bet on MNM this Sunday. They're former multi-time WWE Tag Team Champions and have beaten the best that the WWE has to offer. She then insulted the other teams' chances in the match, especially The Mexicools who Melina said were certainly 'not cool at all'.

A video was then played of a past Royal Rumble highlight. This one was from the 2002 Rumble match when Kurt Angle seemingly won after eliminating Triple H. 'The Game' had managed to hold on, though, and promptly eliminated Angle to be named the winner of the 2002 Royal Rumble.

Kane v. Nunzio. Kane's 'warm-up match' for the Best-of-Seven Series match seven at the Royal Rumble would be against Nunzio. Nunzio was clearly not confident of his chances against 'The Big Red Monster' with the first couple of minutes of match time being taken up with the Italian running away and doing his best to avoid contact with Kane. Kane eventually caught up with him, though, and after a few power moves including a big sidewalk slam, Kane finished Nunzio off with a Chokeslam for the pinfall victory.

Following the match, former United States Champion Booker T rushed to the ring. He connected with a big side kick that levelled Kane in the middle of the ring. Booker followed up with a Scissors Kick as his wife, former Miss Black America Sharmell, cheered on from ringside. Kane would get up from the move, though, and sent Booker packing with a clothesline over the top rope. 'The Big Red Monster' then exited the ring backwards over the top rope and stalked Sharmell, grabbing her by the throat. Before any damage could be done, though, Booker T came from behind with a steel chair and bent it over Kane's back before delivering a crushing blow to his skull. Kane collapsed to the floor, but moments later sat up! Booker connected with another head shot with the weapon, but Kane would sit up again! Booker then pulled a ladder out from underneath the ring and jabbed it viciously into the gut of his Royal Rumble opponent. A few more shots with the steel ladder, including the final one which sandwiched Kane between the weapon and the steel steps, put 'The Big Red Monster' down and out. Booker left with Sharmell, who was still nursing her throat, having a clear advantage as the Royal Rumble approached.

A pre-taped promo by Matt Hardy and Rey Mysterio was then aired. Hardy said that he and Mysterio were the best tag team to grace the WWE's tag team division in years and at the Royal Rumble they would take the vacant World Tag Team Championship away with them. Rey chimed in, saying that they had experience, speed, agility and most importantly team work - they were the most 'all-around team' in this Sunday's match and would take that advantage and use it to become World Tag Team Champions at the Rumble.

Chavo Guerrero v. Kurt Angle. Chavo Guerrero had it all to do in this one. He was at a disadvantage in size, strength, mat wrestling and even brawling skills against Kurt Angle. The Olympian showed why he won a gold medal in 1996 as he began the match out-wrestling Chavo easily and taking him to the mat numerous times, frustrating the cruiserweight. Chavo would manage to dodge another mat wrestling exchange and instead poked his adversary in the eye, infuriating Angle but pleasing the fans. Chavo continued to use dirty tactics, including pulling Angle's straps and also connecting with a mule kick out of the referee's sight - a move which got a two count. Angle would come back, though, overpowering Chavo with various slams and suplexes. Following three German suplexes, Angle followed with an overhead belly-to-belly and then the Angle Slam. The straps came down and Angle meant business as he wrapped up Guerrero in the Ankle Lock. After about half a minute of ankle-related torture, Chavo would succomb to the hold and tap out.

Another pre-taped promo was then aired, this one from The Mexicools; 'The Juice' Juventud, Super Crazy and Psicosis. The World Tag Team Championship contenders spoke first, managing to get across to the viewers that they believed they would be the next champions because unlike the other teams they aren't normal, they're 'not Mexicans' they're 'Mexicools!' The Cruiserweight Champion of the World chipped in, saying that when Crazy and Psicosis win the tag team titles, The Mexicools will be 'The Mexichamps' as well because they will all have gold. Juvi said that Kid Kash had no hope of taking away his Cruiserweight Championship and that 'the notorious K-I-D will feel the wrath of the J-U-V-I'. The Mexicools repeated that they were just that, 'Mexicools', and not Mexicans to end the promo.

A video then played featuring another past Royal Rumble highlight. This Rumble memory was from the 1995 match when Shawn Michaels was thrown over the top by British Bulldog, but managed to hold on and only let one foot make contact with the floor before re-entering the ring and throwing Bulldog over the top rope and being named Royal Rumble 1995 winner.

Shelton Benjamin v. Randy Orton. Shelton Benjamin was looking to make a big upset but he was on the defensive straight from the get-go as Orton delivered punishing blows with his hands and a quick powerslam. 'The Legend Killer' would then mock Kurt Angle, taking down Shelton Benjamin with a German suplex and then spinning around with his arms to the side much like the Olympian does. Benjamin battled back with a few kicks and a belly-to-belly suplex. Randy took to the outside, but Benjamin leaped over the top rope and took him out. Before the action could return to the ring, Orton regained control of the match by dodging the Dragon Whip and letting Benjamin's ankle crash into the ring post! Back between the ropes Orton put the pressure on Shelton with various leg and ankle locks, doing further damage to his opponent's new injury. Shelton fought through the pain and connected with a second Dragon Whip attempt, but he couldn't capitalise. Randy looked for the RKO, but was pushed away and then drilled with a superkick. The two combatants pulled themselves up and Shelton got the upper hand, connecting with right hands. Orton went back to the ankle, though, and chopped Benjamin to the mat. Moments later Shelton went for the Stinger Splash and connected, but the following T-Bone Suplex attempt was countered by Orton's modified backbreaker. Orton then stalked his opponent. Shelton staggered backwards, thwarted another RKO attempt but his ankle gave way and he collapsed to one knee, allowing 'The Legend Killer' to connect with a brutal RKO! Randy rolled into the cover and picked up the three count.

As Orton climbed to the second rope to celebrate his victory, Kurt Angle slid into the ring and attacked him from behind! Angle connected with some hard right-hand shots but Orton would counter an Angle Slam attempt. The ensuing RKO attempt was also countered and Angle hit some more punches. Orton came back, though and sent Angle tumbling to the mat with a dropkick. Kurt charged, but Randy ducked and lifted Angle over the top rope and all the way to the outside! Orton had a huge grin on his face. On commentary Michael Cole commented that if that happened on Sunday in the Royal Rumble, Kurt Angle would be eliminated. Angle retreated up the ramp after re-thinking his plan to re-enter the ring, the two men staring each other down just two days before the Royal Rumble.

Michael Cole ran down the Royal Rumble card for the viewers at home as Tazz gave his thoughts and comments on each match. The final card is now set - Kid Kash will challenge The Mexicools' Juventud for the Cruiserweight Championship of the World, four teams (Rey Mysterio & Matt Hardy, The Mexicools' Super Crazy and Psicosis, MNM, Snitsky & Tyson Tomko) will battle it out in an elimination match for the vacant World Tag Team Championship, Booker T will meet Kane for the vacant United States Championship in match seven of the Best-of-Seven Series, World Heavyweight Champion Batista will clash with WWE Champion John Cena to determine an undisputed World Champion, and of course the Royal Rumble match itself will take place, thirty WWE Superstars entering but only one getting the chance of a lifetime to face the World Champion in the main event at WrestleMania 22 on April 2, 2006.

World Heavyweight Champion Batista & WWE Champion John Cena v. Chris Masters. Chris Masters did not want any part of this match and would take to the outside, not wanting to enter the ring. Batista and John Cena then got in each other's face and Masters took a shot at Cena from behind, sending the champion to the mat. Masters quickly locked in The Master Lock on Cena! Batista stood there watching Cena writhing before breaking up the hold and shoving Masters into the corner, delivering some hard shoulder thrusts into his gut. Batista continued to dominate Masters until he was caught out and Masters got The Master Lock on the World Heavyweight Champion! Cena copied Batista's actions from a few minutes earlier and watched for a little bit before breaking up the lock. Cena then connected with a spinning out powerbomb on Masters and nailed the Five Knuckle Shuffle. Cena went for the pin, but Batista pulled him off! Batista then picked Masters up and delivered a crushing spinebuster. He went for the pin, but Cena broke it up! The champions were trying to out-do each other. It was then Cena's turn and the WWE Champion hit Masters with the F-U. Batista followed with the Batista Bomb and the World Champions decided to pin Masters at the same time, the three count was academic after this very one-sided encounter. The official helped Masters out of the ring as Batista and Cena took their respective titles and pumped up the crowd. The two would meet in an intense stare down as SmackDown went off the air.

So i had this lengthy TGC Rant/Review™© all written up that took me over an hour to do. I was quite pleased with it. Then I hit add reply and the board was offline. Guess what went bye bye when that happened? So here's the short version:

Overall grade for this diary is a solid B. While I like most of it, many things I can't get behind 100%. Those are:

-Releasing talented stars like Benoit and HBK and future stars to be like Cade, Helms, and Orlando. Seems that you made some mistakes when you let them go and kept dead weight like Carlito, Masters, and Snitsky.

-I hate Kane being subbed for Benoit when you could easily have had Booker go up 4-0 and then feuded these two for the belt. I can't get behind or into this feud at all, and simply can not wait for it to end.

-Angle and Orton, because a face Orton fails so bad in my opinion. It's not even funny how bad a face Orton fails. Truly wish that you had turned Angle face instead.

-Flair and the IC Title's lack of focus or really even reason for still existing.

However things I like a lot are:

-Boogeyman. Here's hoping that you DO let loose with a Boogeyman vs. Lashley feud. One of us will do it for sure at some point, it's just a matter of if you beat me to it. :D

-Cena and Batista, despite the fact that Batista has been made the heel a few times in the build. No way Dave could turn heel with Cena as the face in a feud between the two considering the way the fans have turned on Cena.

-Shelton's ALMOST winning a match except for interference. If this leads to Haas coming back I am so there and so happy.

-RVD, Edge, and HHH was MADE by RVD's explanation to Vince of why he did what he did. I loved it to no end, and was then able to really enjoy the remainder of the feud.

Things I question:

-If you hire people do you have to fire people to keep the ideal roster coun, or was that simply the set-up/premise for the diary and now you can do what you want?

-Has TNA or any other fed scooped up any of the many fired ex WWE stars? I wanna know.

I like the diary, and you are an amazing talent. We are very lucky in The Dome that you have chosen to share your talents with us, and I look forward to The Rumble immensely. Thank you.

I don't quite understand the reason for Masters having to face both Cena and Batista...

Booker got revenge for Kane's attack last week, I liked it. A ladder was an interesting second choice for weapon, but it worked.

Shelton keeps losing, and get injured during the match :( I want a push :( Although I don't expect him to win against Randy Orton, I want something dammit!

I liked the way you wrote/booked the handicap match with the two trying to out do each other rather then screwing each other over without coming to blows.

Really, really looking forward to Royal Rumble, you've hyped it well. Here are my picks...

Kid Kash def. Juventud - I just can't see Juvi retaining, really what can he do with the belt? I see more posibilites with Kash.

MNM def. The Mexicools' Super Crazy and Psicosis, Rey Mysterio & Matt Hardy, Snitsky & Tyson Tomko - Mysterio and Hardy are a good pair but I think you'll have MNM beat them by cheating or something and then start a feud between those two teams from there. The other two teams in the match are lower midcard acts, not even a chance to win :P

Booker T def. Kane - As with the Cruiserweight title, I see more places you can go with the heel as champion. Kane isn't really a champ in my mind, just a monster. Kicks ass, thats all. Not champion material, atleast not without a manager.

Batista def. John Cena - As much as I could see John Cena taking it because of Batista's possible need of surgery, I'd like to think that Batista has the advantage in this match because of his size and strength. I don't think you can go wrong with a winner in this match, either way you'll need a strong heel to feud with them down the road.

Royal Rumble Winner - John Cena - If the loser of the title match is in the Rumble then the loser of their match will take it, I can't see any of the people right now that are over enough to win winning because I see them with a blow off to their feud at Mania, triple threat with Edge, RVD and HHH and then the Orton/Angle match.

Great update. I can't wait for Royale Rumble and especially can't wait for the Royal Rumble 30-man match. Im interested to see how you write it up. I also have no clue who will win. It could be Trips , Orton , Angle , RVD or Edge. Anyway here are my opinions on the Rumble.

- Kid Kash def. Juventud. In my opinion you should get Lash LeRoux from DSW and promote him to WWE and face him against Kash. It would be a good fued. Juventud for me , is just getting old and needs a break or something. Please give Kash the title.

- MNM def. Mexicools , Hardy and Rey , Snitsky and Tomko. Please don't let ACNE and Tomko win !. What i think would be good is have MNM win the titles and fued with Mexicools. And develop a fued between Hardy and Mysterio. Like maybe Hardy turning on Mysterio making a match for Wrestlemania. MNM should win this because IMO there the best tag team WWE got.

- Booker T def. Kane Booker should win. I am sort of getting bored of the limited variety in this fued so far. There just attacking each other after every match. I would like to see Booker get creative on the mic. No offense but i like the real life Smackdown Best of Seven Series better than your one.

- Batista def. John Cena Batista has improved a lot over the year and i think he deserves to win this match. IMO Cena doesn't need the title to be credible. If you turn him heel he can still be credible for WWE. Looking forward to this match.

- Royale Rumble Match Match im most looking forward to so far. I think it maybe Edge who wins but im not entirely sure. This should be excellent if you write it the way most royale rumbles are written in the dome. I hope its a long , detailed match and i hope you pick the right people to win and hopefully you can suprise me. Takes a lot to do that these days.

Fantastic diary. Better than your last ones. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the feedback, people. I will be running a prediction contest for the Royal Rumble but there will also be a few bonus questions, so Cole and mAXi you'll have to re-post, or edit, your predictions once I've posted the prediction contest. The prediction contest will come with a full preview of the event so you all know what's going on at the Rumble.

TGC: I tried to keep the roster cut realistic to what WWE would do in real life. Benoit was released due to his age and contract disputes of recent times. If WWE were to keep some guys I would have thought they'd keep Carlito and Masters because of their current pushes and also the big guys such as Snitsky.

I admit, I've fell short on ideas to keep the Booker/Kane series fresh. It's very unlikely to continue past the Rumble, so keep your eye out for a decisive winner at the Rumble. Same thing with the Flair/IC situation, I'm trying to come up with ideas with it as we speak. I can tell you that Flair is a part of the Royal Rumble though.

I haven't technically turned either Randy Orton or Kurt Angle face. I've tried to keep them in their current real-life dispositions and to be honest I was just testing to see if I could bring something to life between them. I feel I may be on to something and if I decide to continue their battles look for a clear cut sign of a face turn from one of them.

Now, your questions. I have hired a few more people (most sent straight to development) but have not cut anybody else. So, no, I don't cut someone when I bring a new guy in. That was just a way to set things up. I won't be bringing in masses of new talent, though, and if my roster does start to get a little too big for TEW's liking, I assure you I'll bring it down to size.

As for my ex-superstars being snapped up, yes, some of them have. I'll inform you about them in an internet report later tonight.

Cole: Don't worry about Shelton Benjamin, I do have better plans for him but it isn't quite the right time for them to come to fruition.

WWE News and Notes

Since the WWE's mass release in early January this year, many of the now ex-WWE Superstars have gone on to different things. TNA is the only company to have snapped any of them up. Here's a quick recap of who's gone to TNA and how they've done over the past month.

One big name to enter TNA's iMPACT! zone is John "Bradshaw" Layfield. Since his TNA debut, JBL has competed in just two matches. The first being a tag team match in which he doubled up with another ex-WWE Superstar, "The Largest Athlete in the World" Big Show to defeat Christian Cage and another ex-WWE Superstar, Rene Dupree. This match featured at TNA's pay-per-view Final Resolution. That match has been Paul Wight/Big Show's only match in TNA so far, as it was for Rene Dupree.

Also to join the TNA ranks is the legendary Undertaker. Undertaker's shocking debut happened at TNA's Final Resolution when "The Phenom" beat "The Alpha Male" Monty Brown in singles action. 'Taker's only other in-ring appearance since then was a somewhat confusing one as he teamed with ex-WWE Women's Champion Trish Stratus to defeat ex-WWE Diva Stacy Keibler and Gail Kim. Stratus debuted early on in January for TNA, beating Kim in her first taste of six-sided ring action. That tag team match has been Stacy Keibler's biggest involvement so far.

Another huge name from WWE to enter TNA was "The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels. Michaels was well received by the TNA faithful and immediately gained a shot at Jeff Jarrett's Heavyweight Championship. His chance came up short, though, as Jarrett was able to retain the title.

Other ex-WWE employees to be acquired by TNA include former SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long, former RAW General Manager Eric Bischoff and even "Good ol' J.R." Jim Ross.

In other news, WWE has announced on WWE.com that there will be a mystery entrant in the 2006 Royal Rumble match. Who that may be is unknown to us at this point. Rumours have been flying around that it could be the return of Chris Jericho.

Also making the rumour-mill headlines are that WWE is in talks with other talent, including a few former employees who are currently making their living in Total Nonstop Action Wrestling. We'll keep you posted.

WWE Royal Rumble 2006 Preview

The second World Wrestling Entertainment pay-per-view of the new year (the first of the post-brand split era) is the Royal Rumble and it rocks the American Airlines Arena in Miami, Florida this Sunday night.

January has been a very interesting month for WWE with the brand split coming to an abrupt end at New Year's Revolution and the huge list of roster cuts that shortly followed. With the likes of "The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels, Chris Benoit, "The Phenom" The Undertaker, The Big Show and John "Bradshaw" Layfield released from their contracts, the year, let alone the month, ahead looked bleak. Many other WWE Superstars have stepped up, though, and because of that the Royal Rumble card is jam-packed.

World Heavyweight Champion Batista vs. WWE Champion John Cena.

In what is a highly-anticipated match-up, the two most popular Superstars in the WWE today clash at the Royal Rumble. World Heavyweight Champion Batista was a former student of Triple H in Evolution before turning on his mentor and taking the World Heavyweight Title from him at WrestleMania 21. This was also the event where John Cena captured the WWE Championship from John "Bradshaw" Layfield. Both men have had hugely successful title reigns that have lasted nearly a year. One man's reign will come to an end at the Royal Rumble, though, as both World Championships will be unified in what promises to be a fantastic encounter. Both men will have the crowd behind them, both men will be confident, but only one can walk out the Undisputed Champion. Vince McMahon's 'zero tolerance' policy enforced upon these two athletes has possibly brought even more tension and expectation upon this match. When the ring bells and the zero tolerance policy is lifted, you can bet these two will go all out to try and take the other one down.

Kane vs. Booker T.

Former SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long's solution to controversy amidst the United States Championship situation on his brand between Booker T and Chris Benoit was to vacate the title and have the two battle it out in a best-of-seven series for the belt. That's exactly what happened, but with Chris Benoit's departure from the company earlier this month, the series was left with a 3-1 score to Booker T's advantage. Vince McMahon's solution was to have somebody replace "The Rabid Wolverine" and that man was "The Big Red Monster" Kane! Kane has started strong, bringing back the series to 3-3. The seventh and final match of the series will take place at the Royal Rumble. Will Booker's wife, Sharmell, again play a role in it? If she does, will Kane be able to overcome the disadvantage? Only one thing is for sure; we'll be crowning a United States Champion this Sunday at the Royal Rumble!

Cruiserweight Champion of the World Juventud vs. Kid Kash.

Juventud and Kid Kash clashed at the very last SmackDown-exclusive pay-per-view, Armageddon, in December of last year. That time, Juventud walked away the victor but only after Kash was disqualified for using a foreign object. Their rivalry has continued into the new year and the new era of sports entertainment. Just over two weeks ago, 'the notorious K-I-D' was victorious in a Cruiserweight Triple Threat match, overcoming Chavo Guerrero and Paul London to score another shot at the Cruiserweight Championship. Kash will have to win without a weapon this time, if he is to become the new champion.

Matt Hardy & Rey Mysterio vs. The Mexicools' Super Crazy & Psicosis vs. MNM vs. Snitsky & Tyson Tomko.

The Big Show's departure from the company combined with Kane's venture for the United States Title meant that the World Tag Team Championship would be vacated. Vince McMahon came kept his eye close on the tag team situation and came up with a solution that satisfied pretty much everyone; Tag Team Turmoil would return at the Royal Rumble. The four hottest teams in the WWE today were quickly placed into the match and one of them will become the new World Tag Team Champions at the Royal Rumble.

The Royal Rumble Match.

It's quite possibly the most famous match-type in wrestling history. It is the one match that guarantees the winner a World Championship shot at the "grandest stage of them all", WrestleMania. It is, of course, the Royal Rumble. Entry numbers are drawn at random, two WWE Superstars begin the match with another being added to the mix every two minutes until all thirty participants have entered. Wrestlers are eliminated by being thrown over the top rope and when both of their feet touch the floor. Only one man will remain and he will get the opportunity of a lifetime, to main event WrestleMania 22.

Key entrants, the favorites, of this year's Rumble match include former World Heavyweight Champion, "The Game" Triple H, "Mr Pay-Per-View" Rob Van Dam, "Mr Money in the Bank" Edge, the only Olympic Gold Medalist in WWE history Kurt Angle, "The Legend Killer" Randy Orton, "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair, Carlito, "The Masterpiece" Chris Masters and impressive newcomers The Boogeyman and Lashley. But as we all know, anything can happen in the WWE and anybody can win the Royal Rumble.

Royal Rumble Entrants: Carlito, Chavo Guerrero, Chris Masters, Edge, Hardcore Holly, Joey Mercury, Johnny Nitro, Kurt Angle, Lashley, Matt Hardy, Matt Striker, Nunzio, Burchill, Paul London, Psicosis, Randy Orton, Rey Mysterio, Ric Flair, Rob Conway, Rob Van Dam, Shelton Benjamin, Simon Dean, Snitsky, Super Crazy, The Boogeyman, Trevor Murdoch, Triple H, Tyson Tomko, William Regal, Mystery Entrant.

The Royal Rumble looks to be another thrilling spectacle, you certainly don't want to miss out on it. Order WWE Royal Rumble through your pay-per-view provider now, or watch it on your computer by ordering online at WWE.com.

Okay, folks, the Royal Rumble Prediction Contest is here. Scoring is as follows:

Correct Match Winner: 1 Point

If you choose Wrestler A to beat Wrestler B and Wrestler A wins, whether it be by pinfall, submission, count-out, DQ, anything, you get a point. Same applies for tag team matches.

Correct Title Match Winner: 1 Point

Same as above, but if it's a title match and you get it right you get a further point.

Correct Bonus Question: 1 Point

I'll set three bonus questions. You get one right, you get a point.

Obviously, if you get something wrong you get 0 points for that question. The winner will receive some sort of prize, although it'll likely be something small as I don't want the winner hugely affecting the storylines I have running.

Kane vs. Booker T w/Sharmell

Cruiserweight Title of the World

Cruiserweight Champion of the World Juventud vs. Kid Kash

World Tag Team Titles

Hardy & Mysterio vs. The Mexicools vs. MNM w/Melina vs. Snitsky & Tomko

Royal Rumble Match

30 WWE Superstars (see above preview for full list)

Bonus Questions:

Which match will take place first?

Who will be the mystery entrant in the Rumble?

Who will be #1 in the Royal Rumble?

----------

There will be two points up for grabs for the Cena/Batista match, the second point is because it is a title match. It is not counted as a point per title, that's why it's just one extra point.

I know guessing who #1 in the Rumble will be difficult as there's a 1/30 chance you get it right, but that's the way it is :P

And yes, I will accept 'Mystery Entrant' if you think that person will win the Rumble or be #1.

Have no clue who the mystery entrant could be? It could be somebody on the current roster, it could be a former WWE wrestler returning, it could be a retired wrestler returning, hell it could even be some random indy guy. Take a guess. Have fun :)

Royal Rumble Prediction Contest

Unification Match

World Heavyweight Champion Batista vs. WWE Champion John Cena

Winner: John Cena, he goes onto be defeated by Randy Orton in the main event

United States Title

Kane vs. Booker T w/Sharmell

Winner: Booker T, I just don't see Kane winning the title. I think Booker would make a better champ

Cruiserweight Title of the World

Cruiserweight Champion of the World Juventud vs. Kid Kash

Winner: Juventud, tough choice. I'll go with Juvi

World Tag Team Titles

Hardy & Mysterio vs. The Mexicools vs. MNM w/Melina vs. Snitsky & Tomko

Winner: MNM, probably the most prompt team to win thus match

Royal Rumble Match

30 WWE Superstars

Winner: Randy Orton, destiny

Bonus Questions:

Which match will take place first?

- Tag Turmoil, worse to best

Who will be the mystery entrant in the Rumble?

- Shawn Michaels, go with Maxi's pick.

Royal Rumble Prediction Contest

Unification Match

World Heavyweight Champion Batista vs. WWE Champion John Cena

While I prefer Batista, I think you need to turn Cena and have a heel the champ heading into WM. It always works better this way, plus then Tista can rehab that injury.

United States Title

Kane vs. Booker T w/Sharmell

No reason at all other than that he's better than Kane and deserves to win it since the whole story got fucked up.

Cruiserweight Title of the World

Cruiserweight Champion of the World Juventud vs. Kid Kash

The stronger of the two, booked better, and again I just see the heels dominating.

World Tag Team Titles

Hardy & Mysterio vs. The Mexicools vs. MNM w/Melina vs. Snitsky & Tomko

Heels baby, let the heels win. Matt and Rey chase MNM for the titles to WM, the way things oughtta be.

Royal Rumble Match

30 WWE Superstars (see above preview for full list)

Mystery Entrant

Bonus Questions:

Which match will take place first?

Cruiser Match to get the fans properly going.

Who will be the mystery entrant in the Rumble?

VERy hard to predict, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say you regret firing Benoit, thusly he returns and wins

Who will be #1 in the Royal Rumble?

Another hard one, but again I'm gonna go with our mystery entrant, whom I believe is Benoit. Big return, big win.
