Great News for the potential PS3 owners out there

For those too lazy to click the link the main story is that not only will the PS3 be region free for games (great news for all us importers) and that as with the PS2 online multiplayer gaming will be free

Yay, I can finally buy all those random Japanese anime games and be utterly confused by them, but have fun nonetheless. ^_^

Does that mean that US and UK releases may end up being almost simultaneous? Because people would just import the English versions anyway...

Now all we need is for them to chuck the banana-style controller and stick with the tried and tested Dual Shock 2.

They may be redesigning the controller too.

Of course, the copy protection still has me incredibly pissed off.

Yeah techincally the game producers can still make it work only in one region but the xbox/360 already have the same thing working for them so it'd just come down to waiting a little while to check if it works fine or not

Yeah and there still going to be problems with different TV setups (NTSC and PAL) but there are way round that as the 360 proved (but only if your TV is HD usually). Plus with the capacity of the Blu Ray discs there going to have the potential to put everything on the disc anyway (including many languages) so hopefully some Japanese games will be translated when released.

Well, although disc capacity might be there, the time and effort required to actually get it translated and encoded almost certainly wouldn't be worth the money.
