World Wrestling Federation - 1993

World Wrestling Federation : 1993

1993 was a transition year in the WWF. A new era was beginning. An impending steroid scandal forced Vince McMahon to phase out larger, muscular superstars and replacing them with the smaller, more technically sound wrestlers. The WWF's major seat-fillers Hulk Hogan, "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair, and "Macho Man" Randy Savage were on the decline and new stars such as the Intercontinental Champion Shawn Michales, the undefeated Tatanka, and "Da Bad Guy" Razor Ramon were waiting to be pushed as legitamite superstars. Hulkamania was coming to an end due to the scandal, Hogan's upcoming movie, and contract disputes. Hogan was on brief hiatus because of the controversy of the situation, however, his return was to be sometime before the Royal Rumble. Bret "Hitman" Hart had worked his way to the main event after years of being a top midcarder. He was the WWF World Champion heading into 1993 and had become one of the company's most popular stars. New comer Razor Ramon was Hart's top challenger for his title heading into the Royal Rumble. The Intercontinental title was being held by the ultra-cocky "Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels. Marty Jannetty had just returned after Michaels had thrown his former Rocker partner through Brutus Beefcake's barber shop window. A match between the two was all but set to happen at the Royal Rumble. Sensational Sherri was also set to return weeks leading into the Rumble. It was unknown who's side she would be on upon her return after Michales had used her as a shield from his own glass mirror that Jannetty had planned on nailing him with. Speaking of Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake, who had been out of action for months because of Money, Inc. who had knocked him out and apparently broken his nose with Irwin R. Schyster's breifcase. Beefcake is returning soon as well. Ted DiBiase and Irwin R. Schyster of Money, Inc. were riding high on top of the tag team division since winning the Tag title in October from the Natural Disasters. No team had stepped up as the next legitamite challengers. The Steiner Brothers were new and still trying to prove themselves, while no other teams seemed worthy enough. The WWF had to find some way to heat up this division. Harvey Whippleman was to reveal his newest client, the 7'6" 435 pounder, "El Gigante" Giant Gonzalez. He was yet another Whippleman hired hand to take out the Undertaker. Yokozuna managed by Mr. Fugi, was being pushed hard and fast to the top of the card, destroying every WWF superstar put in his way. A big career was obviously ahead of him. The year long feud between Mr. Perfect and Ric Flair was coming to an end. Flair was seriously considering leaving the WWF and jump ship to WCW in February because he felt like he was no longer needed in the WWF. While Vince agree, he wanted Flair to stay until at least WrestleMania IX. Bobby "The Brain" Heenan although not a full time manager anymore was being used to introduce "The Narcissist" Lex Luger at the Royal Rumble, claiming that he would take out Mr. Pefect before Flair even had the chance to. This was all the major events leading into 1993, and I will continue these feuds into the year. Like reality, the WWF in '93 will be a new era of the company. Welcome to 1993. Welcome to my World Wrestling Federation.

MAIN EVENT

Bret "Hitman" Hart: The current WWF World Champion. He the epitomy of a technical master. Bret is a 34 year-old Face. He is working the "Old School Face" gimmick. "The Excellence of Execution" has a loyal fanbase with an overness of 97. The WWF want to legitimize Hart as the top face of the company and phasing out Hogan and Savage. This could mean a long title run for the "Hitman". Don't be suprised if this guy turns out to be one of the most decorated superstars to ever step foot in a WWF ring when it is all said and done.

'The Immortal" Hulk Hogan: Hulkamania is continuing to run wild in the World Wrestling Federation into 1993. While Hogan isn't the most gifted athlete in the world or the best wrestling for that matter, he certainly makes up for all of that with his charisma and unbelievable fan base with 97 overness. Hogan is a 40 years-old Face and is starting to decline in his ring performance. However, his "Hero" gimmick is going to keep him on the top of the WWF card as long as he is around. He is expected to be a huge part of the main event scene, but out of the World title hunt for now. Hogan is on brief hiatus over the Steriod Scandal and filming of his movie "Mr. Nanny", but is going to be brought back in time for the Royal Rumble.

"Macho Man" Randy Savage: The "Macho Man" is a 41 year old face with an "Old School Face" gimmick. Randy, like Hogan, is just past the peak of his career and is beginning to decline in his wrestling ability. While a better wrestle than Hogan, he is not quite as good as him on the mic, but is still one of the best in the company with the stick. Savage is still one of the most popular stars in the WWF with an overness of 91. He is still capable of putting on amazing matches and is going to be used as a major face in the WWF, but out of the World title scene. Savage is expected to be slowly phased out of the main event scene and help the mid-card talent elevate as his career in the WWF continues.

"Nature Boy" Ric Flair: "To be the man, you've got to beat the man", and Ric Flair is the man. He is a 44 year-old Heel who works the "Cheater" gimmick to perfection. Flair is a man who can draw an amazing amount of heat just by showing his face and giving a "Wooo!" He is one of the top heels in the main event scene with an overness of 95. "The Nature Boy" is a great in-ring performer using a mixture of technical and brawling skills. However, his uncanny charisma is what really puts him over the top as a wrestler. Flair, like Hogan and Savage is expected to get top matches at pay-per-views, but are not going to be in the main event scene in the early going.

The Undertaker: This 35 year-old Face is one of the biggest, most creepiest men in the World Wrestling Federation. Not to mention that he works his gimmick of a "Supernatural" being very well. He is one of the best brawlers in the company. With manager Paul Bearer by his side, he will continue to be one of the WWF's top superstars. He is already one of the most over wrestlers in the company with a 92 overness. After destroying "The Ugandan Giant" Kamala look for 'Taker to be in another big feud with one of the strangest and equally as frightening characters in the WWF. The Undertaker will be out of the World title scene for the start of the year, but look for "The Deadman" to stay at the top of the card and eventually challenge for it sometime in the near future.

Yokozuna: Yokozuna, while not physically gifted as a wrestler has the look and the drawing ability with an overness of 96 to be one of the top stars of the WWF for years to come. The 29 year-old Heel is not great on the mic, but he has the look of a monster, and that's all he will need. His shear dominance in the ring the past few months is proof that he will be pushed for a World title shot in the very near future. With his veteran manager Mr. Fugi, Yoko is currently playing the role of an "Evil Foreigner". Look for his gimmick to play a huge role in his character development in the coming months. Yokozuna will continue to have a major impact in the main event scene and challenge for the WWF World Championship.

UPPER MIDCARD

"The Narcissist" Lex Luger: "The Narcissist" is a 33 year-old Heel using the "Prima Donna" gimmick. Lex, while not very good in the ring or on the mic has the look and presence to be one of the top heels of the company. Lex, in his current gimmick looks like he could become a star. Luger is already quite hated with an overness of 90. He has not yet debuted in the WWF, but is expected to make a major impact soon, possibly as early as the weeks leading up to the Royal Rumble. Lex could jump up to the main event scene quickly.

Mr. Perfect: Curt Henning is one of the best in-ring performers in the WWF. Perfect is a 32 year-old Face using the "Cool" gimmick. Since turning on mega-heel Ric Flair, his popularity as a face has sky rocketed. He has a current overness of 84. Perfect has the look, ability, and charisma to be a main eventer in the future. Perfect is expected to be the first in line for a huge push into the main event scene in 1993, and is going to be a challenger for the WWF Championship heading in to 1994.

"Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels: "The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels, heading in to the prime of his career is considered one of the top up-and-comers in the World Wrestling Federation. Michaels has the in-ring ability of a Bret Hart and the charisma of a Ric Flair. The 27 year-old Heel is the current Intercontinental Champion and is getting over huge with an 83 overness using the "Cocky" gimmick. The WWF plan on making him a huge star and the top heel of the company soon. The future looks bright for Michaels and could be in the league of a Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair by the time his career is over.

MIDCARD

Bam Bam Bigelow: Bam Bam is a beast. Period. He has a great look and plays the "Monster" gimmick fairly well. The 32 year-old Heel is good in the ring for a big man. He is very agile and is one of the better brawlers in the mid-card. Bigelow is managed by the equally strange Luna Vachon. Together they form a formidable couple that could get the opportunity of moving up in the card this coming year. He is fairly over with an overness of 66. Look for Bigelow to get a nice push in 1993 and become a top upper mid-carder by years end.

Big Bossman: The Bossman, like Bigelow, is a very agile big-man. He is one of the top mid-card Faces with a 70 overness. Not only does Bossman have fan support but he also has decent brawling ability and charisma. Not to mention he is friends with Hulk Hogan. Hey, it definetley doesn't hurt. Bossman, a 32 year-old is using the "Law Enforcer" gimmick. The WWF plans on either keeping Bossman in the mid-card or pushing him up to the upper mid-card in 1993. We'll just have to wait and see.

Bob Backlund: Backlund is a 42 year-old Face using the "Old School Face" gimmick. He is fairly over at 72. Backlund is OK in the ring and is great on the mic, but he just doesn't have the look to become a top WWF superstar at this time in his career. As of right now it appears that Backlund is destined to be a mid-carder for the WWF in 1993. With his charisma, the WWF is hoping to turn him into a manager when Backlund decides to hang up the boots.

Brian Knobbs: Knobbs is one-half of the freshly turned face team the "Nasty Boys" with Jerry Saggs. They are one of the most experienced teams in the WWF. While not very good in the ring Knobbs is fairly over at 72. He is 36 years-old using the "Slob" gimmick. The gimmick might need to be retooled a bit for Knobbs to get over more as a face. He is expected to continue to tag with Saggs. They are one of the many face teams in the WWF and are not going to turn heels any time soon. This means they are likely to stay towards the bottom of the tag division in the near future. Only time will tell what's next for Nasty Boy Knobbs.

Butch: The 42 year-old "Cousin Butch" is one-half of the popular tag team The "Bushwhackers." with Luke. Butch Miller is mediocre wrestler that has succeeded with a good "Fun Babyface" gimmick. The Bushwhackers have began to be faded out of the top of the tag division and as a result Butch's overness has suffered. He is at a 65 overness heading into 1993. With age and wrestling ability against him, it appears that he is staying with Luke as a tag team. With the abudance of face tag teams right now, The Bushwhackers are likely to be in a similar situation as the Nasty Boys.

Earthquake: The 38 year-old monster John Tenta makes up one-half of the biggest tag team in the WWF. With Typhoon, the two men make up the "Natural Disasters". Earthquake is currently using the "Big Friendly Guy" image and has a 72 overness. The Natural Disasters are the 2nd most popular face team on the WWF roster. They are not in line for a WWF tag title shot in the near future, but that could change in the coming months. Look for The Natural Disasters to pick up some big wins, and possibly have a change of heart that could catapult them back up to the top of the division.

Giant Gonzalez: Giant Gonzalez is just that. A Giant. This guy is 7'6" 435 pounds. While he sucks big time in the ring, he is too damn big not to push to at least upper mid-card status in the early going of 1993. Gonzalez at 41 years of age is going to be using the "Monster" gimmick to promote himself as a heel. He has not yet debuted on WWF television but is set to be introduced in the coming weeks. He is already somewhat over at 75. His manager, Harvey Whippleman has promoted this guy for the last few weeks and Gonzalez is going to get at least one major pay-per-view match when he arrives.

Irwin R. Schyster: Mike Rotundo portrays his "Obnoxious" IRS character perfectly. IRS is a 34 year-old Heel who isn't as over as most would think at 73. However, alongside ultra-charismatic Ted DiBiase and being managed by veteran Jimmy Hart, IRS is going to get over as a top mid-card heel in no time. Being one-half of the World tag team champions "Money, Inc." with Ted DiBiase, Schyster is expected to stay in his role as a tag team wrestler for a while. IRS is decent in the ring and with no serious challengers eminent it appears likely that Money, Inc. will be the top tag team in the WWF for most of 1993.

Jerry "The King" Lawler: "The King" is 42 years-old and currently and will forever use the gimmick of "Royalty". He is a top mid-card heel at 75 overness. Lawler is nothing special in the ring, but what makes him special is his ability on the mic. He is one of the most charismatic wrestlers in the world today. The WWF plan to use that to the fullest. It is unknown yet whether or not Lawler's ability will be used more as a wrestler or as a manager, depending on his health. What is certain is that if everything works out Lawler is going to be pushed to the upper mid-cards.

Jerry Saggs: Jerry Saggs is the other half of the "Nasty Boys". He is a 33 year-old using the "Slob" gimmick at 72 overness. He will, like his counterpart Knobbs need a slight image makeover to be put over as faces. His career outlook is identical to Knobbs and are both destined to be teammates forever.

"Hacksaw" Jim Duggan: "Hooooo!" Jim Duggan is one of the worst pure wrestlers in the WWF, but he is very charismatic and very over as a Face with the fans. He is using a "Pro-USA" gimmick at 77 overness. "Hacksaw" is most likely going to be a top mid-carder for the rest of his WWF career.

"The Ugandan Giant" Kamala: The face-painted Ugandan is one of the weirdest characters the WWF has come up with in years. He has an overness of 65. The 36 year-old "Savage" Heel's career appears to be on the way down. After losing to the Undertaker and parting ways with both Kim Chee and Harvey Whippleman, Kamala isn't expected to be much more than another jobber. However, the WWF has plans to give Kamala yet another manager and keep him in the mid-cards for a least the start of 1993.

Luke: "Cousin Luke" is a 42 year-old "Fun Babyface" who makes up the other half of the "Bushwhackers. Luke is at a 65 overness just like Butch. For his 1993 outlook, see Butch.

Marty Jannetty: Marty Jannetty, former partner of Shawn Michales is planning on ridding himself of being just that. The former partner of HBK. The 31 year-old face using his "Rocker/Teen Idol" image has just returned a few weeks ago after being out of action for nearly a year because of Michaels. Jannetty is solid in the ring, and OK on the mic. He has the fans behind him at 74 overness, and is expected to be a top contender for the Intercontinental championship in the upcoming months. Jannetty is destined to be more than just one of the "Rockers".

"The Rocket" Owen Hart: Owen Hart is one-half of "High Energy" with Koko B. Ware. Owen is a 29 year-old using the "Old School Face" gimmick. Owen has been a tag team wrestler his entire career but that will change in 1993. Owen is currently at 63 overness, but with his amazing in-ring ability and charisma, that number will increase greatley in the coming months. The team of "High Energy" will stick around going into 1993, but with all the face tag teams, it will benefit Owen greatly to get out on his own and become his own man. WWF officials are planning on great things for Bret's little brother this coming year.

Papa Shango: If you ask me who the scariest WWF superstar is, I'll tell you. That man is Papa Shango. The 29 year-old "Voodoo" Heel is a monster. He isn't the most over heel on the roster at 67 overness, but be ready for a decent sized push for Shango. He is a decent brawler and OK on the mic. Look for Papa Shango to set not only his sights but also his spells on a top WWF superstar in the near future.

"Da Bad Guy" Razor Ramon: Razor Ramon is a top mid-card heel at 80 overness. That is going to change greatly as Razor is currently the #1 contender for Bret Hart's WWF title. Razor is going to get a mega-push in the WWF. The 32 year-old using the "Dealer" gimmick is not getting over as fast with his current gimmick, so WWF officials have decided to slightly tweak Razor's image for '93. Razor has a great career ahead of him, all this ultra-charimatic brawler has to do is enjoy the ride.

Rick Steiner: This 29 year-old "All-American" Face makes up one-half of The Steiner Brothers. The most over face team in the WWF right now, Rick is at 75 overness. While they are the most over team, they just joined the WWF a few months ago, so a quick push to the top is unlikely. The WWF would rather build them up by beating the top heel teams before a big match-up with tag champs Money, Inc. Rick is staying put with his brother Scott and being elevated to the top of the division in 1993.

Scott Steiner: The younger brother of Rick Steiner, and other half of the Steiner Brothers is a 27 year-old "All-American" Face. Scott is the better wrestler of the two and is slightly more over at 76 because of his look and charisma. See Rick Steiner for '93 outlook.

Tatanka: The 26 year-old "Native American" is one of the top up-and-comers in the business. He is undefeated so far in his short WWF career. The mid-card face is already quite over at 78 overness. The reason for the Tatanka push is being questioned considering he isn't all that good in the ring, and is really bad on the mic. However, sources say that his push will continue into 1993, and he could be a top contender for the WWF Intercontinental title sooner than later. All signs point to Tatanka being an upper mid-carder by the years end.

"Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase: Why has the "Million Dollar Man" not been the WWF World Champion yet? This man is one of the most charismatic men in the business today. The 35 year-old is working the "Rich Snob" gimmick. He is currently a 79 overness. With his abilities on the stick, DiBiase should get over more as a mega-heel in no time. Being one-half of Money, Inc. with IRS and manager Jimmy Hart. DiBiase is going to stay on top of the tag division for a while, but once his time as Money, Inc. winds down, look for this solid brawler/technician to show that everybody's got a price and move up the card.

The Mountie: Jacques Rougeau, better known as The Mountie is a 42 year-old "Corrupt Law Enforcer." He plays a solid Heel and is managed by the "Mouth from the South" Jimmy Hart. Mountie gets decent heat as a mid-carder at 67 overness. His skills in the ring and on the mic are adequate for his role in the mid-card. WWF management plans on giving "The Mountie" a total makeover. Rougeau could be getting a completely new gimmick very soon.

Typhoon: The 36 year-old "BFG" Face formerly known as Tugboat is damn near identical to his tag parner Earthquake. At 68 overness, he and Earthquake are in line for a decent push in the tag division. Check Earthquake for Typhoon's '93 outlook.

Virgil: Virgil is the definition of a classic jobber. The 34 year-old with the "Old School Face" gimmick is decent in the ring, which helps make his matches more believable. The thing that holds him back is his skills on the mic. World Wrestling Federation cannot picture Virgil as more than a lower mid-card/jobber as a role in '93. Look for Virgil to put over top heels this year.

LOWER MIDCARD

Beau Beverly: The 31 year-old Wayne Bloom is currently a Heel and one-half of the Beverly Brothers with Blake Beverly. The team is managed by Lanny "The Genius" Poffo. He plays an "Obnoxious" gimmick and gets good heat for a lower mid-carder at 54 overness. The Beverly Brothers are nothing special as a tag team in the ring and a push is not in their unforeseen future. In all likeliness they will continue their role as a lower card tag team.

Blake Beverly: The 31 year-old Mike Enos is an "Obnoxious" Heel as Blake Beverly of the Beverly Brothers managed by the Genius. He is at an overness of 54. See Beau Beverly.

Crush: Crush, the Hawaiian big man, is a 30 year-old Face. He is using the "Old School Face" gimmick going in to '93. Brian Adams is not the most over face in the company at 60 due to a lousy push and less than steller mic skills, however, in the right situation Crush can succeed. He is a decent brawler and has the look of a superstar. Vince plans to give Crush a decent push in 1993 and make him a star in the future.

Doink The Clown: If you don't love the evil clown Doink gimmick you're crazy. Matt Borne is a 29 year-old Heel currently playing the "Cheater" role. Doink The Clown has just appeared on WWF television the past few weeks and has already gotten over a bit because of his gimmick at 58. The WWF plan on switching his "Cheater" gimmick and focus on Borne being an "Evil Clown". He is fairly good in the ring as a technician and can hold his own on the stick, so expect a push similar to Crush's in the near future.

Fatu: Fatu is one-half of the Headshrinkers with Samu, managed by the "Wild Samoan" Afa. The 26 year-old "Savage" Heel is new in the WWF, so he's not that over yet at 58. Fatu is not a great wrestler to say the least, but he is quick for the big man and with The Headshrinkers being the only other heel team besides the champions, look for them to get a lot of key wins and become a very good tag team in the WWF.

Jim Powers: The long-time WWF superstar has been nothing but a glorified jobber in his time in the WWF, and that is not expected to change. The 29 year-old "Old School Face" is OK in the ring, but doesn't have the charisma to be anything more than a lower mid-carder. He has an overness of 42 and it should stay reletively the same throughout the year.

Koko B. Ware: "The Bird Man" is one of the most colorful WWF superstars today. He portrays a "Fun Babyface" character at 59 overness. Koko is 33 years-old and is one-half of the high flying High Energy. Koko will stay with Owen as a tag team for the early part of 1993, but after the inevitable parting of the two sometime this year, Koko will more than likely become another Virgil.

Max Moon: The 26 year-old Face is one of the weirdest characters in the WWF. He is "Mysterious" and has an overness of 47. Max is pretty good in the ring and on the mic, but in his current gimmick it is hard to see him being more than just another jobber for big heel stars. The Astronaut needs a total makeover to amount to anything, however, there are no plans to change his character yet.

"Red Rooster" Terry Taylor: The 36 year-old "Old School Heel" has paid his dues in the WWF and is expected to be slightly pushed in a new role. The Red Rooster character has generated little to no heat at 51 overness, and he is expected to be going back to being "Terrific" Terry Taylor. He is set to become the sidekick/lackey of a top star in the WWF sometime this January.

Repo Man: Barry Darsow is a 36 year-old Heel working one of the most ridiculous yet quite funny gimmicks in WWF history. That is the "Thief" Repo Man gimmick. For what he is working with he is relatively over for the lower mid-carder at 53 overness. The WWF doesn't expect to do much with Repo Man in '93. He will more than likely stay put in the cards.

"The Model" Rick Martel: "The Model" Rick Martel after being defeated by Tatanka at Survivor Series seems to be heading to the bottom of the WWF ranks, however WWF sources have said that a push for the 36 year-old Heel is coming soon. Martel has gotten over at 60 overness with the "Pretentious Artist" gimmick. Martel is decent on the mic and has some technical skills. A manager will be given to Martel to help him get over at least into the mid-card.

Samu: The 30 year-old "Savage" Heel is the other half of the Headshrinkers. He is managed by Afa. Samu has an overness of 57. See Fatu.

Skinner: The Alligator man is a 37 year-old with the "Slob" gimmick. He has gotten over pretty good for the matches he receives at 57 over. This WWF veteran heel isn't much in the ring or on the mic so a push is not in his future. He will more than likely be a jobber for the rest of his WWF days.

OPENERS

Barry Horowitz: Barry Horowitz is a 30 year-old heel without a current gimmick. He is just an ordinary jobber with an overness of 35. Horowitz will receive a gimmick, however he won't be moving up in the card.

Brooklyn Brawler: The grizzled 36 year-old vet is portrayed as a "Slob". He has an overness of 30. The Brawler will also stay put.

Damien Demento: Despite being a big man, which is what the WWF is into now-a-days, he's just way too untalented to move up the rankings. The 29 year-old heel with an overness of 39 has a "Weirdo" gimmick that just will not get him over at all. The man with the voices is his head won't make much of an impact in '93.

PJ Walker: PJ Walker is a young face wrestler currently without a gimmick. He is very young ay 20 years-old and is still developing. He has an overness of 35. PJ is a good wrestler and has better than average charisma. The WWF would like to use him in someway other than just jobbing to higher up heels. An up-and coming type face tag team is being talked about for him.

The Berzerker: The Berzerker is a 33 year-old heel that can wrestle as well as he can talk. That definetley is not saying much. However, he will still be kept around since he is over as an opener at 40 overness. He plays the "Weirdo" gimmick and probably will not change.

The Kamikaze Kid: The Kamikaze Kid, also known as Lightning Kid is a 24 year-old face. He currently does not have a gimmick, but the WWF creative team is planning on setting him up as an "Underdog". He has an overness of 40, and with his skills in the ring and on the mic, a good push is certain to come his way sometime in '93. For the early part of the year, a tag team partner might be in his plans.

JOBBERS

Barry Hardy: Heel, 29 years old, No Gimmick, 10 Overness.

Duane Gill: Heel, 22, No Gimmick, 15 Overness.

Glen Ruth: Heel, 26, No Gimmick, 15 Overness.

Iron Mike Sharpe: Heel, 22, No Gimmick, 20 Overness.

Reno Riggins: Face, 27, No Gimmick, 15 Overness.

Ross Greenberg: Face, 27, No Gimmick, 10 Overness.

MANAGERS

Afa: Heel, 45, "Savage", 50 Overness. Clients; Fatu and Samu

WWF SUPERSTARS Results

Saturday, January 2nd, 1993

Manhattan Center in New York, New York

WWF Superstars opens with a 5-minute video montage of the major events of the past year, 1992. Clips of past and present stars are shown. "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair's upset Royal Rumble victory was the first event highlighted. The big feuds in the WWF between Hulk Hogan and Sid Justice, and Ric Flair and "Macho Man" Randy Savage are shown, including Savage's World title win at WrestleMania VII. In arguably, the match of the year, for the Intercontinental Championship at SummerSlam, The British Bulldog defeated his brother-in-law Bret "Hitman" Hart. The two competitors embraced in a huge after the match, with Bret raising the Bulldog's arms in triumph. Bret lost the match, but losing the title helped him in the long run. The world title win, the first of Hart's career was also shown in the montage. All this along with several other current and former WWF superstars such as Mr. Perfect, The Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, Legion Of Doom, Money Inc., Rowdy Roddy Piper, and the Ultimate Warrior. The new montage was followed up by a roaming shot of the inside of the Manhattan Center in New York, New York. Thousands of screaming fans, holding hundreds of posters for their favorite WWF superstars.

Commentator Vince McMahon welcomes everyone watching to "WWF SUPERSTARS!" McMahon introduces his partner, color commentator Bobby "The Brain" Heenan, and then goes over the matches for the card. Heenan blatantly yawns after hearing the matches and asks where "The Nature Boy" is. Vince apologizes to the viewing audience at home for Heenan's remark and announces that a tournament for the WWF tag team titles will start tonight. He also promotes that President Jack Tunney has a special announcement tonight. After some irrelevant conversation between McMahon and Heenan, ring announcer Howard Finkel begins the opening match introductions.

RICK "THE MODEL" MARTEL vs. "EL MATADOR" TITO SANTANA

The two former partners known as "Strike Force" had a staredown for a few moments after the opening bell. Martel smiled at Santana and put out his hand to "El Matador" for a handshake. Tito was a bit suprised. Tito looked at the crowd for their opinion on what he should do. Did he listen to their obvious boos? No, of course not. Tito went to shake Martel's hand, but "The Model" quickly pulled back his hand and put it through his hair with a huge smile on his face. Martel turned to the crowd behind him and did his typical posing for the them. When he turned around Tito nailed him with a hard right hand which knocked him a few feet backward. The match was somewhat bland and typical after that. The face gets the early start, then the heel takes over, followed by a rally from the face, and finally Martel picks up the unexpected victory with a roll-up while grabbing Tito's tights for leverage. Decent start to Superstars. McMahon and Heenan spent most of the match hyping up the World title match between Bret Hart and Razor Ramon set for the Royal Rumble.

The camera focused back on the announce table with Heenan and McMahon, who continued to talk about the upcoming Royal Rumble pay-per-view. This was actually fun to watch for the viewers at home. They got to enjoy the comical bickering between McMahon and Heenan about who was going to win the Royal Rumble. McMahon threw out names like "Macho Man" Randy Savage, The Undertaker, and Mr. Perfect, while Heenan guaranteed another victory for Ric Flair. No chance that that no good Mr. Perfect would win. Vince then proceeded to remind Heenan just how hard it was to win the Royal Rumble once, let alone twice. McMahon then in mid-conversation remembered that he had to interview a certain WWF superstar in the ring at this time.

McMahon walked to the ring with a microphone and announced to the New York crowd what was about to go down. Before he could finish the theme music of "The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels echoed throughout the Manhattan Center. The Intercontinental Champion walked out in his typical ring attire with the matching sunglasses. McMahon begins the in-ring interview by asking Shawn how he felt about his upcoming match with Marty Jannetty at the Royal Rumble for his Intercontinental Championship. Shawn snatched the microphone from McMahon and went on about how Jannetty is nothing but a career tag-team wrestler. Not only did he not need Jannetty but Jannetty had been holding him back from becoming the superstar that he is today. Marty is nothing without Shawn Michaels. That the reason Jannetty is even being talked about now is because of what Michaels did to him last year in on the Barber Shop. He plans on taking out Jannetty once and for all at the Royal Rumble. After Shawn was done he handed the microphone back to Vince for the next question. Vince asks Shawn about the rumors that Sensational Sherri was going to be in Marty Jannetty's corner at the Royal Rumble. Shawn grabs the mic again and says that he wants everyone to realize one thing and that is that Sherri belongs to him and there is no way that Sherri will leave "The Heartbreak Kid's side to be with a loser like Jannetty. Shawn once again hands the mic over to Vince. As he does, Marty Jannetty's music plays and Jannetty rushes out to the ring. Shawn sees him and goes to nail him with the Intercontinental Championship. Jannetty ducks and kicks Michales in the gut. The title drops. Marty picks it up and holds it up to the Manhattan Center crowd. Cheap pop. Jannetty then hits HBK in the face with his own title. Jannetty then poses with the title in his hands as Superstars goes to a commercial break.

Promos: Slim Jim (Savage), Sega (New WWF game), Caesar's Palace (Home of Wrestlemania IX)

The camera is back on announcers Vince McMahon and Bobby Heenan after the commercial break. They talk about what just happened, and hype up the match that will take place in just 22 days.

BAM BAM BIGELOW (w/ Luna Vachon) vs. THE BIG BOSSMAN

This was a suprising good match. This match proved that these two are the most agile, and athletic big men in the WWF. Their two style worked very well together and if they keep putting on matches like this a nice push will be given to both of them. Bam Bam dominated most of the match-up with the help of his manager and fellow lunatic Luna Vachon's constant distractions. Bam Bam had Bossman set up for the Top Rope Headbutt, but Bossman moved just in time for it. He then started to mount a comeback against the mamoth "Beast from the East." Bossman nailed one of his patented scissors kicks and started his stomping and yelling bit which normally signals that the end is near. Luna hopped up on the apron and distracted rookie referee Mike Chioda. The Mountie ran up from behind the Bossman and tasered him. Mountie quickly left and Luna conveniently got off the apron. Chioda turned around to both big men layed out. Bigelow recovered and got up on the top rope. He nailed his Top Rope Headbutt for the 3-count. Another Bossman/Mountie feud? Not really, but it will amount to something in the end.

Winner: Bam Bam Bigelow

Overall Rating: 72%

Crowd Reaction: 62%

Match Quality: 83%

The hoopla from the previous match quickly came to an end when the camera cut backstage to 'Mean' Gene Okerlund standing with Ted DiBiase and Irwin R. Schyster of Money, Inc. with their manager "The Mouth from the South" Jimmy Hart. Gene introduced the three men then proceeded with the interview asking the two men what they thought of the new tag team tournament to detemine #1 contenders to their titles. DiBiase started off first with his evil laugh, then saying that president Jack Tunney is just trying to do everything he can to get the WWF tag team titles off of Money, Inc. There is not a tag team in the WWF or in the world for that matter that can beat "The Million Dollar Man" and IRS. He also went on to say that none of the teams in the tournament were even worthy of a title shot with them, but he would make an exception for the right price because "Everybody has a price, but the price of Money, Inc. is an expensive one." IRS pulled the mic to him with 'Mean' Gene still holding it. He basically said that these tax-cheating tag team's haven't paid their dues, and don't deserve Money, Inc. time. Hart pitched in hyping up the Money, Inc. was the greatest tag team in the WWF and a no one can stop them kind of thing. DiBiase did most of the talking which is why this segment went well.

( 74 % / IRS gained overness for this segment )

THE BEVERLY BROTHERS (w/ The Genius) vs. HIGH ENERGY

Not the way to start off the tag-team tournament. Neither team was very impressive in this one. The wrestling was just downright horrible which just completely took the crowd out of it. The high flying team of High Energy picked up the win to advance in the tourney after Koko had knocked Beau Beverly out of the ring. Koko went and followed him out leaving Owen and Blake in the ring by themselves. Blake whipped Hart into the ropes and went for a clothesline. Owen ducked it and kicked Blake in the face with a dropkick. Owen went for and locked in his brother's Sharpshooter. The Genius got on the apron to distract referee Joey Marella, but Koko put an end to that by grabbing him from behind and throwing him to the floor below by his gown. Blake tapped out as the referee turned around.

Winner: High Energy

Overall Rating: 50%

A small video package played hyping up all the matches that had already been announced for the Royal Rumble. Some events leading up to the Razor Ramon/Bret Hart match were played as well as some from the Jannetty/Michaels feud. The package ended with "30 men, 1 winner, 1 WrestleMania Main Event." Heenan and McMahon continued to bicker over who would win the Rumble, and with McMahon promoting the new stipulation that the winner of the match would not only have his spot reserved for the main event at WrestleMania IX, but also challenge Bret Hart for the WWF World Championship. Heenan reminded him that Razor Ramon is just as likely to be going to WrestleMania as the World Champ as Hart is. McMahon reluctantly agrees.

( 89 % )

"The Fink" is in the ring and welcomes the President of the World Wrestling Federation Jack Tunney to the ring. Tunney, dressed in his usual business clothes walks out to a mixed reaction. This should be quite boring. Tunney is handed a microphone and thanks Finkel for the intro. Tunney welcomes everyone to WWF Superstars. He claims to have not one but two major announcements tonight. Heenan wise-cracks on Tunney during the speech and yells for him to hurry it up already. Tunney goes on to say that the debut of the WWF's new television show Monday night Raw is going to start Monday, January 4th on USA network, just two days from now. That gets him a cheap pop. He then tells the WWF audience to get ready for the blockbuster. Tunney says that Hulk Hogan will make his triumphant return just two weeks from Monday. Just in time for the Rumble, which Hogan will surely be entered into. While Hogan isn't as popular as he used to be he is still loved by just about every fan of the WWF. The crowd completely erupted from the Hogan announcement. Tunney thanked everyone for coming out and hopes they tune in to Raw this coming Monday. While the announcements were big, Tunney just isn't the most charismatic cat, which is the reason for a low rated segment. Some sponsored commercials are next.

MAIN EVENT

KAMALA (w/ Slick) vs. TATANKA

Kamala came out with a new friend, Reverend Slick. Slick got on a microphone from "The Fink" and announced that he is indeed Kamala's new manager and that he will help this wild and savage beast realize his full potential and take him to the top of the WWF and to the World Heavyweight title. Yeah, sure Slick. Let's hope not. Tatanka comes out doing his trademark Native dance. "The Brain" makes fun of him while he's doing it. As soon as the Native American got in the ring Kamala went right after him. The match wasn't pretty, probably the worst wrestling match of the night, but the crowd was fairly into it especially when Tatanka nailed the "Ugandan Giant" with a Tomahawk Chop for the win, keeping his undefeated streak here in the WWF alive.

Winner: Tatanka

I enjoyed Superstars. I like the way you have the matches written down and the show was pretty realistic for '93. I liked the Money Inc segment and Rick Martel coming out with a win is always good. I'm not too crazy about Bossman/Mountie possibly happening again, But atleast Bossman will be doing something. Hogan's return is going to be huge, And I'm looking forward to seeing who he'll feud with first. Looking forward to Monday Night Raw (Y)

WWF MONDAY NIGHT RAW Results

Monday, January 4th, 1993

Manhattan Center in New York, New York

The first ever Monday Night Raw opens up with a Vince McMahon, "Macho Man" Randy Savage, and special guest announcer Ron Bartlett, who Vince tells the viewing audience is from WFAN radio. Can't say I'm a fan of the station. McMahon welcomes everyone watching to "MONDAY NIGHT RAW!" The crowd is pumped for the first ever primetime show being aired by the World Wrestling Federation. You could barely hear Vinnie Mac go over the line-up of matches for tonight. The three men chit-chat about the show, and Savage "Ohhh Yeeeaah's" a few times, until they are interupted abruptly by ring announcer Howard "The Fink" Finkel for the opening match introductions.

VIRGIL vs. YOKOZUNA (w/ Mr. Fugi)

Yokozuna, as expected, completely dominates Virgil from start to finish. Virgil got a few dropkicks and punches in, however, they did not phase the Japanese monster. The offense from Virgil not only did not knock the big man off his feet, but they did not even make him take a step back. To put an end to a sad match, Virgil got thrown into the corner and got splashed by Yoko. Yokozuna then placed Virg's lifeless body in the corner and sat on him using the Banzai Splash for the 3-count.

Winner: Yokozuna

Overall Rating: 56%

Crowd Reaction: 73%

Match Quality: 40%

Notes: Virgil didn't sell very much, which hurt the match rating.

An Ad for the Royal Rumble is played. This is followed up by a mighty sexy blonde walking around the ring holding a "Monday Night Raw card." Nice touch. McMahon is in the ring and he introduces the man that will take on Bret "Hitman" Hart at the Royal Rumble for the World Wrestling Federation Championship; Razor Ramon. Ramon walks out with a cocky grin, all decked out in his common wrestling attire. McMahon asks Ramon about the upcoming title match. Razor says that the excellence of execution will get a lesson in Machismo. He goes on to say how it has taken Bret eight and a half years to win the World title, while it has taken "The Bad Guy' just eight and a half months to get a shot. Ramon goes on to promise that the World Heavyweight Championship is coming with "The Bad Guy." Razor throws his toothpick at Vince, ending the interview and heading to a commercial break.

Promos: Say No To Steroids!, Ninetendo, Sega

DUANE GILL & GLEN RUTH vs. THE STEINER BROTHERS

Duane Gill and Glen Ruth are obviously not the greatest wrestlers in the world, but they did their jobs. This match was a way to continue to push the Steiner Brothers as legitamite contendors for Money, Inc.'s tag team titles. The Steiners dominated. Scott made the pin on Duane Gill after the two brothers performed their trademark Steiner Line. The crowd gave the Steiners a nice reaction. That's a good sign considering the state of the current tag team division.

Winner: The Steiner Brothers

Overall Rating: 49%

Crowd Reaction: 47%

Match Quality: 63%

A pre-taped interview with Lex Luger at his home is aired. He is sitting in his living room drinking some type of protein shake. Luger guarantees that he will make a huge impact at the Royal Rumble and sends out a challenge to Mr. Perfect for the Royal Rumble. He tells us that Bobby "The Brain" Heenan hired him to take out The Perfect One. He claims that Mr. Perfect might be "Perfect," but the "Narcissist" is the Total Package and will be unstoppable.

Before the next match, Ric Flair's music played, and "The Nature Boy" walked over to the announce table to make the three-commentator team into a duaruptle-commentator team. Flair received a heat set and told the men that he was out here to get a closer look at Mr. Perfect in action. There was some tension between Flair and Savage, but it didn't amount to anything more than bickering between the two.

THE RED ROOSTER vs. MR.PERFECT

Perfect pointed at Flair when he came out and did his trademark gum spit towards Ric's direction. "The Nature Boy" didn't like that too much. Perfect grabbed a microphone from "The Fink" and told everyone that he accepted the challenge from Lex Luger, and after he was done with Luger at the Royal Rumble he was gonna beat "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair. Nice pop for Perfect. This match was fairly good from a technical standpoint. Probably the best match of the night, but still nothing special. Mr. Perfect got the victory via disqualification. Perfect took over the match and had Taylor in position for the Perfect Plex. From behind, Ric Flair nailed him with a few hard rights to the back of Perfect's head. Flair started chopping away at Perfect's chest. Flair started playing to the crowd, which gave Perfect the opportunity to turn the tables on "The Nature Boy" with some hard rights of his own. Perfect started winning the boxing match, but his momentum was stalled when Terry Taylor hit him from behind. Flair and Taylor high fived and began to stomp away on Perfect. Bob Backlund came running out from the back and cleaned house with Mr. Perfect. I smell a tag team match for next week. Maybe?

The camera returned to the announcer's table where McMahon, Savage, and Bartlett where talking about what had just happened. The three men hyped up the return of Hulk Hogan in two weeks, and the match between Mr. Perfect and Lex Luger at the Royal Rumble.

Harvey Whippleman came out to a chorus of boos. He got in the ring with a microphone and told everyone to "SHUUUT UPPP!" Whippleman said that tonight is a very special night. He was going to introduce his newest client. As a sneak peek at just how dominating he and his new superstar would be, he is going to allow two men to take on his new client tonight. He addresses the entire locker room claiming that there has to be two people who want to make a name for themselves in the WWF. Ross Greenberg and Reno Riggins walked out. Whippleman thanks them and wishes the two men good luck because they are going to need it. Whippleman proceeds to introduce his new client, Giant Gonzalez! The 7'6" monster makes his way to the ring slowly. When he gets in, the two jobbers go right after him, but he just tosses them aside. After throwing them around like rag dolls, he finally finishes them off with a double chokeslam. Whippleman gets in the ring and raises his protege's arms in victory. What a devastating duo these two are going to make.

'Mean' Gene Okerlund is shown in the back to give the Royal Rumble Report. Gene goes over the current line-up for the Royal Rumble card and the feuds that are developing. So far we have Shawn Michaels putting his Intercontinental Championship on the line against Marty Jannetty. Sensational Sherri is expected to return within the next few weeks, and will accompany one of the men to the ring, but the question is, which man's corner will she be in? "The Narcissist" Lex Luger makes his WWF debut against Mr. Perfect. Razor Ramon will challenge Bret "Hitman" Hart for his WWF World title, plus you can not forget about the Royal Rumble match. The winner goes on to WrestleMania IX to take on the WWF Champion. A few previously recorded short interviews were played. All of who had their own way of saying that they are going to win the Royal Rumble match. Ric Flair, Ted DiBiase, Jim Duggan, Tatanka, Crush, Rick "The Model" Martel, Jerry Lawler, Bob Backlund, and Undertaker w/ Paul Bearer were all included in the brief interviews.

The camera switches back to the ringside area where Doink The Clown is shown messing around with fans in the front row. Ron Bartlett begins making fun of the clown calling him names such as "Dork The Clown" and "Doinkers". McMahon corrects him after a few lousy attempts at some comedic relief. Doink makes him way up to the announce table and begins to try to shake hands with Vince and Bartlett. They shake. He gets to Savage and when he shakes Savage's hand, water comes out of Doink's flower that is attached to his jacket. Doink starts laughing hysterically, pointing at Savage. "The Macho Man" gets macho pissed and chases the Clown backstage.

Back from the commercial break, Vince and Bartlett, the two remaining announcers tell the viewing audience what had just occured with Savage and Doink.

DAMIEN DEMENTO vs. THE UNDERTAKER (w/ Paul Bearer)

Another squash match, the third of the evening. The Undertaker gets in all of his trademark moves such as the top rope walk, the scary sit-up when down, and eventually the Tombstone Piledriver to seal the deal. After the match, Paul Bearer and Taker do their typical posing with the urn where Taker is on his knee and he puts his hand in the air to the urn. Before he finishes the celebration the Undertaker begins to clutch his stomach in agony. He goes down on both knees and screams in extreme pain. After a few seconds the pain subsides and everyone is confused as to what the hell just happened.

A dimly lit room with "voodoo" looking objects are shown all around. A big table is in the middle of the room with Papa Shango right behind it. He appears to be working on something. He lets out an evil laugh that echoes throughout the room. Shango basically says that he has his eyes on a certain WWF superstar. The powers of good versus evil will collide in a supernatural war. A war that will not be for the faint of heart. A war that will leave one man 6 feet underground. Shango starts to laugh again and he nails a voodoo doll of The Undertaker on his wall..

MAIN EVENT

SKINNER vs. BRET "HITMAN" HART

Bret Hart carried Skinner to a half-decent match. With "The Alligator Man" that takes an amazing amount of talent. Bret Hart wins relatively easily. Skinner got some decent offense in but the Sharpshooter was too much for him. After the match, Hart celebrates in the ring with his WWF World title, from behind Razor Ramon attacks him. Razor knocks the WWF champ out with a Razor's Edge. Ramon picks up Bret's title and poses with it as the first ever Monday Night Raw goes off the air.

I read Raw earlier but was too lazy to comment, Anyways, Pretty good show. I'm glad you didn't toss out a bunch of big name matches on Raw. I'm digging Terry Taylor hopefully getting paired up with Flair, As that could be something good. Maybe add someone else and make a stable with them? I also love the whole supernatural stuff with Papa Shango and The Undertaker. Razor Ramon's interview came off well, Especially the whole "eight months to get a title shot" line, As he said that in real life, And I thought it was a nice touch. Keep up the good work (Y)

WWF SUPERSTARS PREVIEW

IPB Image

What an amazing week of WWF action. Feuds heated up and the superstars put on a wrestling clinic last week. This week on Superstars you are in for the same wild ride. Last week, the first match of the WWF tag team tournament was held between High Energy and the Beverly Brothers. High Energy came out on top, and are set to face the winner of the Headshrinkers/Nasty Boys match-up. That match is set for a later date. The Natural Disasters are taking on the team of Barry Horowitz and the Brooklyn Brawler to see who advances to the second round. The Mountie cost the Big Bossman his match against Bam Bam Bigelow last week when he tasered him. The talk in the back is that the Bossman is heated and is going to make The Mountie serve hard time! Shawn Michaels and Marty Jannetty are scheduled to go one-on-one for the Intercontinental Championship at the Royal Rumble, but the two men just couldn't wait til then to go after each other. The current card is The Natural Disasters against Horowitz & Brawler. "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan takes on The Berzerker. "The Beast From The East" Bam Bam Bigelow goes one-on-one with Max Moon. In the Main Event, #1 contender Marty Jannetty is in action against the man who defeated the returning Tito Santana last week "The Model" Rick Martel. Also scheduled to be on the show, Money, Inc., Jerry "The King" Lawler, Tatanka, and The Repo Man. The card is subject to change. Tune in this Saturday on Fox!

WWF SUPERSTARS Results

Saturday, January 9th, 1993

Manhattan Center in New York, New York

Vince McMahon and Bobby "The Brain" Heenan introduce this weeks WWF Superstars naming off the matches scheduled for the evening. Jim Duggan taking on The Berzerker. Bam Bam Bigelow going up against Max Moon. The Natural Disasters taking on the team of Barry Horowitz and Brooklyn Brawler in one of the first rounds matches of the tag team tournament. In the main event, Marty Jannetty goes one-on-one with Rick Martel.

THE BERZERKER vs. "HACKSAW" JIM DUGGAN

A very uninspiring brawler vs. brawler match-up. "Hacksaw" dominated most of the match-up and finished The Berzerker off with his running clothesline. Duggan celebrates in the ring after the match-up raising his US flag and getting the crowd pumped for the rest of WWF superstars.

Winner: "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan

Overall Rating: 43%

Crowd Reaction: 53%

Match Quality: 22%

Sean Mooney is in the back with the Big Bossman. He asks Bossman about The Mountie interfering in his match last week and costing him the victory against Bam Bam Bigelow. Bossman starts yelling about how the WWF isn't big enough for the two of them. There has to be one law enforcer in the World Wrestling Federation. He challenges The Mountie for a match next week on Superstars to a 'Loser Leaves the WWF' match. He closes the interview out by saying the Mountie is going to serve hard time!

( 66 % )

Vinnie Mac and The Weasel hype up the possibility of the Bossman/Mountie match for next week. They also talk about the main event of the evening and Vince announces that Sensational Sherri will be here next week on Superstars.

MAX MOON vs. BAM BAM BIGELOW (w/ Luna Vachon)

A typical high flyer vs. big man squash match. Max Moon tried some high flying, lucadorish moves that occasionally caught Bam Bam off guard, but in the end none of it mattered. "The Beast from the East" eventually pinned Moon after a Top Rope Headbutt. Another big win for Bam Bam.

Winner: Bam Bam Bigelow

Overall Rating: 63%

Crowd Reaction: 54%

Match Quality: 72%

When Superstars returns, Jerry "The King" Lawler is already in the ring with a microphone in hand. He calls everyone peasants and tells them to shut up because the King is speaking. Lawler announces that he is looking for a protege, a Prince, so to speak. He is going to hold the King's Court next week on Superstars, and is going to have an open try out for anyone who wants to be 'The King's' new Prince.

( 83 % )

Backstage, Repo Man is shown in a locker room. He sneaks around the room and begins searching through a bag. He pulls out feathers that appear to be Tatanka's out of the bag. Repo Man laughs in joy of his findings. Repo puts the 'sacred' feathers on and begins dancing around in them. Native Rain Dance maybe? Repo then goes back into idiot stealth mode and sneaks out of the room.

Back at the announce table, McMahon and Heenan are joined by the current WWF tag team champions, Money, Inc. DiBiase and IRS share some laughs with Heenan as they sit down.

TAG TEAM TOURNAMENT

BARRY HOROWITZ & BROOKLYN BRAWLER vs. THE NATURAL DISASTERS

A squash match for the Natural Disasters. The two monsters make short work of Horowitz & Brawler. During the short match, DiBiase and IRS claim that they are the best tag team in WWF history and will be the longest reigning champs ever. They pretty much just do a lot of self-promoting. Heenan agrees with them and adds some compliments in there. Vince points out how impressive the Natural Disasters are and how they look like legit contenders for their tag titles. Heenan quickly tells McMahon to shut up and asks him if he knows who he's talking to. Some pretty funny stuff.

Winner: The Natural Disasters

Overall Rating: 48%

In the back, Tatanka goes into the locker room and notices his 'sacred' feathers missing. He flips out tearing up the locker room in search of the missing feathers. Tatanka screams and rushes out of the locker room looking for the thief.

Marty Jannetty is in the back with Sean Mooney. Mooney asks if he is ready for his upcoming match at the Royal Rumble with Shawn Michaels. Jannetty says he has been ready to kick Shawn Michaels' butt for over a year. Jannetty can not wait until January 24th because he is going to kill two birds with one stone. Pay back HBK for the barber shop incident and become the new WWF Intercontinenal Champion. Mooney also asks if he knows who's corner Sensational Sherri is going to be in at the Rumble. Marty claims he knows nothing about the whole Sherri situation. He went to visit her in the hospital a few times since her accident, but hasn't spoken to her about the Rumble. He advises Mooney to ask her about it.

( 78 % )

Another hype video for Hulk Hogan's long awaited return plays. Basically the same as the one showed on Monday Night Raw last week.

( 98 % )

MAIN EVENT

RICK "THE MODEL" MARTEL vs. MARTY JANNETTY

Before the match started, McMahon told everyone that he just got word that The Mountie has accepted Bossman's challenge for next weeks Superstars. Heenan complains that he never gets told the breaking news and asks what's so special about McMahon. Anyways, in the oh-so exciting Main Event of the evening, Jannetty and Martel take the opportunity to have a pretty damn mediocre match. I was hoping these two guys could steal the show, but it just didn't happen. Their styles just didn't click at all, and it turned out to be a mistake putting the two together. Oh well, no looking back now. Rick Martel picked up a second victory in as many weeks after Jannetty had accidentally knocked out the referee with a flying clothesline that was ducked by Martel. Jannetty hit the Rocker Dropper with the ref still out. Shawn Michaels ran out from backstage and nailed Jannetty with a Super Kick. This allowed Martel to regain his composure and cover the fallen Jannetty conveniently as referee Shane McMahon was getting up. After the match, Michaels came in and put the boots to Jannetty. Martel joined in on the stomp-fest. Tito Santana ran out and cleaned house. He helped Jannetty up as the two heels backed up the ramp yelling at Tito and Marty.

Winner: "The Model" Rick Martel

Overall Rating: 61%

Crowd Reaction: 64%

Match Quality: 55%

Notes: Rick Martel gained overness from this segment.

Marty Jannetty lost overness from this segment.

McMahon and Heenan closed out the show hyping the Royal Rumble meeting between Michaels and Jannetty and also Monday Night Raw.

Superstars was pretty good. I hope Tatanka/Repo Man isn't a long running feud, Like say up to Wrestlemania, As I think Tatanka could be placed against someone better. Mountie/Bossman is big for next week, I sense Bossman losing since he was leaving the WWF at this time, But maybe you're going to keep him and change The Mountie's gimmick? Sucks that Martel/Jannetty wasn't good, But atleast Martel got the win. (Y)

A new trio introduces Monday Night Raw this week. The announce team of Vince McMahon, Ron Bartlett, and Bobby "The Brain" Heenan highlight the card scheduled for the evening. The three men hype the return of Hulk Hogan on next week's Raw and the continuiation of the Razor Ramon/Bret Hart feud with the contract signing tonight.

TAG TEAM TOURNAMENT

THE HEADSHRINKERS (w/ AFA) vs. THE NASTY BOYS

A back and forth tag match with both teams getting some good offense in. Lots of momentum swings for both teams. The Headshrinkers got the win after Samu threw Jerry Saggs into the railing outside which opened up for a double team in the ring. The Headshrinkers eventually nailed the double diving headbutt on Brian Knobbs for the victory. The Headshrinkers advance to the second round of the WWF tag tournament.

DOINK THE CLOWN vs. CRUSH

Crush used his power and size to dominate Doink the Clown for most of the match. Doink used his props and cheating tactics to occasionally slow the big man down. Randy "Macho Man" Savage ran out and tried to go after Doink, but referee Arnold Skaaland caught Savage and tried to hold him back. Using the distraction to his advantage, Doink got a rubber arm out from under the ring and clobbered Crush with it. Savage was restrained by a few referees who came out to help. Skaaland turned to see Doink covering Crush and counted the three. Doink quickly exited through the crowd not wanting anything to do with Randy Savage. Savage, like a madman, broke free from the refs and chased after Doink through the crowd.

Raw comes back with 'Mean' Gene Okerlund standing with "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair. Flair says that he has had enough of Mr. Perfect. It is time that he and the Perfect One go one-on-one. The two of them have to settle their differences in the squared circle. He goes on to say that Perfect is an ungrateful little punk. Flair gave him everything; fame, fortune, women, and his friendship. Flair claims that if Perfect wants to be the man than he has to beat the man. But to face the man he has to beat the 'big man'. He has to beat the "Narcissist" Lex Luger at the Royal Rumble. Heenan of course agreed with every word and gave his biased opinion on Perfect as the interview was going on. Mr. Perfect walks in on the interview and goes face to face with Flair. Perfect basically tells Flair that he is going to beat Luger and than after that he is coming for Flair. The two men come close to brawling, but road agents and referees break it up before it amounts to anything.

( 82 )

Another Hulk Hogan return video plays. Hogan is working out in the video, a close up of his 24-inch pythons or whatever they are are shown. He seems to be in great shape. The video ends with "The Immortal One returns next week!"

( 90 )

JIM POWERS & VIRGIL vs. GIANT GONZALEZ (w/ HARVEY WHIPPLEMAN)

Before the match, Whippleman got a mic and hyped up his giant of a client, saying he was the next BIG thing in the WWF. Gonzalez dominated and took care of the team of Powers and Virgil in about three minutes. He could have finished them off sooner, but Whippleman decided to tell Gonzalez to chokeslam them a few times each. To prove a point of dominance or something.

'Mean' Gene is backstage again, this time with Mr. Fugi and Yokozuna. Fugi says that Yokozuna is going to dominate the entire World Wrestling Federation and toss 29 other men over the top rope to win the Royal Rumble.

( 70 % / Yokozuna lost overness from this segment )

RIC FLAIR & RED ROOSTER vs. MR. PERFECT & BOB BACKLUND

Typical Heels using quick tags and wearing down one of the opponents for most of the match. Ric Flair and Red Rooster... errr.. ummm.. Terry Taylor. The announcers, during the match made it priority number one to let everyone know that The Red Rooster is now going by his old name "Terrific" Terry Taylor. Anyway, the two heels worked on Bob Backlund through most of the match until Taylor made a mistake, and Backlund got the burning hot tag to Mr. Perfect. Perfect cleaned house and all hell broke loose from there with Taylor and Backlund eventually battling each other outside. Perfect, in the ring, had Flair in the Perfect Plex, but Lex Luger came from the stands. He hit Perfect with a forearm smash with referee Tim White's back turned to the chaos outside. Flair fell on top of Perfect for the three count. Taylor, Luger, and Flair regrouped in the ring and left the ring together with Perfect and Backlund both layed out.

Winner: Ric Flair & Terry Taylor

A Royal Rumble Ad plays.

Backstage, Sean Mooney is standing by with "Macho Man" Randy Savage. Savage, in a rage, demands a match with Doink the Clown next week on Raw. Crush walks by and asks Savage why he cost him the match earlier. Apparently he thought they were friends. Savage trys to apologize for the match, but Crush doesn't want to hear it so he walks off.

( 93 )

KAMALA (w/ SLICK) vs. THE UNDERTAKER (w/ PAUL BEARER)

The Undertaker once again dominates Kamala. He gets all of his trademark moves in and finishes him off with the Tombstone Piledriver. After the match, Papa Shango runs out and hits The Undertaker with a Death Valley Driver. He then stalks Paul Bearer and eventually gets ahold of Taker's urn. Shango takes Paul Bearer and the urn backstage with him.

The announcers hype up that it is now time for the WWF title contract signing for the Royal Rumble. The ring was set up with the typical red carpet, desk and chair. President Jack Tunney came out first and introduced the two superstars. Razor Ramon signed first, he antagonized Bret through out the interview calling Bret a little girl and questioning his manhood and such. As soon as Hart signed, Ramon swung the chair at him. Bret ducked the chair shot and knocked Razor down with a hard right hand. The two men brawled in the ring until Ramon put Bret's head between his legs and signaled for the Razor's Edge. Hart grabbed Ramon's legs and dropped him to the ground. He then applied his patented Sharpshooter. Ramon quickly started tapping out. Vince pointed out that that is exactly what Razor might do at the Royal Rumble. Bret held on to the Sharpshooter with referees and road agents trying to pry him off as Raw went off the air.
