Raw was pretty good Doc. I sure hope you're leading towards a Crush/Savage feud rather than Doink/Savage keeping on going. Though, I loved the babyface Hawaiin Crush. Is Taylor's Flair lackey now? I'd like to see a stable with both guys, Luger and maybe someone like Razor? Giant Gonzales is looking like a monster. Undertaker/Shango is heating up, And I can't wait to see what happens next. Razor/Bret is also going well too. Keep up the good work.

WWF SUPERSTARS PREVIEW

IPB Image

The WWF Tag Team Tournament to determine the #1 contenders for the titles begins to take shape. Two tournament matches are set to take place at this week's Superstars! The high flying High Energy team take on the Headshrinkers with Afa. The other tournament match has The Kamikaze Kid & PJ Walker teaming up to form the 'Lightning Kids' facing the debuting tag team The Smokin' Gunns! Last week, The Big Bossman challenged the Mountie to a Loser Leaves the WWF match claiming that the WWF wasn't big enough for two officers of the law. Mountie accepted the challenge and the match is going to be wrestled on this week's Superstars! One of these two men will never be seen in a WWF ring ever again. Who will it be? Tito Santana helped Marty Jannetty fight off Shawn Michaels and "The Model" Rick Martel last week. That set up the main event for Superstars. Marty Jannetty and Tito Santana take on Rick Martel and Shawn Michaels. Sensational Sherri is also expected to return this week with an exclusive interview with Sean Mooney. Sherri hasn't been seen in the WWF since Marty Jannetty accidentally hit her with Michaels' mirror. What does she have to say? Who's corner will she be in at the Royal Rumble? Also, Jerry "The King" Lawler said that he was looking for a new protege to be his Prince. He has invited all of the WWF to his King's Court to find one. Who will be Lawler's new lackey? All this and much more for Saturday Superstars!

CONFIRMED MATCHES

  • High Energy takes on The Headshrinkers
  • Big Bossman goes one-on-one with The Mountie
  • The Smokin' Gunns take on the team of Kamikaze Kid & PJ Walker

WWF SUPERSTARS Results

Saturday, January 16th, 1993

Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, New York

The usual team of Vinnie Mac and Bobby Heenan introduce Superstars this week. They highlight the matches set for the card and argue over who's corner Sensational Sherri is going to be in at the Royal Rumble. Heenan has no doubt that she will be in "her man's corner, and she is going to stand by her man," obviously referring to Shawn Michaels. Vince has a different view and expects Sherri to side with the good guy Jannetty. Only time will tell.

TAG TEAM TOURNAMENT

THE HEADSHRINKERS (w/ AFA) vs. HIGH ENERGY

Vince puts over how impressive the team of High Energy has been the past few weeks and says that they could suprise a few people. Heenan agrees but says that The Headshrinkers are way too powerful for Koko and Owen. Typical power vs. speed match up. The Headshrinkers controlled the majority of the match, with High Energy only getting shots in when the 'Shrinkers played to the crowd. Samu and Fatu used quick tags and zeroed in on and beat down Koko B. Ware through out the match up. Afa also made his prescence known assisting his team whenever he had the opportunity. Samu eventually made a mistake and Koko capitalized by knocking the big Samoan off his feet. Koko made the hot tag to Owen Hart. Owen had the momentum until Fatu got the numbers got the best of him. Koko tried to help his partner but had taken too bad a beaten early on and Fatu quickly tossed him out of the ring leaving his partner by himself. The two Headshrinkers set up Hart for the double diving headbutt. Owen rolled out of the way of the finishing maneuver and rolled up Samu from behind with a school boy for the upset.

Winner: High Energy

Overall Rating: 63%

Sean Mooney is in the back with Sensational Sherri. Mooney first asks Sherri how she feels after only a few weeks removed the mirror shot from Jannetty. Sherri, who appears happy to be back tells Sean that she is doing feel and is almost 100% recovered from it. He then asks her who's corner she will be in at the Royal Rumble. Sherri answers him by saying that she honestly does not know. She has a lot to think about over the next two weeks before the Rumble and probably will not make her decision until that night. Mooney is about to ask another question when the Intercontinental Champion Shawn Michaels interupts the interview demanding that Sherri give him an answer about the Rumble. He tells her that she is his property and doesn't have a choice of who's side she will be in. It's going to be 'The Heartbreak Kids.' Shawn grabs Sherri by the arm and trys to pull her away, but she pulls back. Marty Jannetty runs in and starts brawling with Michaels. The two are eventually seperated by road agents and referees as Superstars goes to a commercial break.

Promos: Slim Jim, Nintendo, Caesar's Palace

Superstars returns with Vince McMahon and Heenan talking about the events that just occurred with Jannetty, Michaels, and Sherri. The two hype the Main Event tag match with the two competitors involved and how huge the Royal Rumble match for the Intercontinental Championship will be.

A previously recorded interview with the newest members of the tag team division. Bart and Billy Gunn, The Smokin' Gunns! The two men dressed in cowboy-like attire say that they are going to take the WWF tag team division by storm. They claim to be two outlaws who are going to smoke the competition. They poke fun at all of the face teams in the WWF including the Steiner Brothers. The Gunns get over as legit heels in the interview. Nice little "Yeeea Haaw!" at the end. Not bad.

( 52 % )

TAG TEAM TOURNAMENT

THE LIGHTNING KIDS vs. THE SMOKIN' GUNNS

The two newest teams in the WWF put on a nice show out there. Probably the best of the night. The Gunns dominated most of the match, but the Lightning Kids got a lot of nice high flying moves in which were really impressive. Bart nailed the Kamikaze Kid with a huge solid right hand, basically a hard punch, but it knocked out the Kid and gave the Smokin' Gunns a win in their debut match.

Winner: The Smokin' Gunns

Overall Rating: 64%

The WWF tag team champions, Money, Inc. are in the back with Jimmy Hart talking about the two winners of the tag team tournament matches tonight. They basically say that Tunney was crazy for making this ridiculous tournament because none of the teams can beat the Million Dollar Man and Irwin R. Schyster. The Natural Disasters walk by in mid-conversation and go face to face, well, not exactly, but they confront the tag champs. The Disasters tell Money, Inc. not to be so confident because an Earthquake and a Typhoon are about to sweep through the WWF and it's heading right for Money, Incorporated. The Disasters walk away with Money, Inc standing there looking more than a bit worried.

( 59 % )

LOSER LEAVES THE WWF

THE MOUNTIE vs. THE BIG BOSSMAN

The two announcers hype up that President Jack Tunney has barred Jimmy Hart from being at ringside due to the magnitude of this match. The loser will no longer be allowed in a WWF ring ever again. A back-and-forth match with a lot of close pinning attempts. With the referee temporarily down because of a collision, the Mountie grabs his taser stick and tries to get the Bossman again with it, but Bossman kicks the stick out of his hands and knocks Mountie down. He then picks up the stick and gives the Mountie a taste of his own medicine to the delight of the crowd. Bossman whips the stunned Mountie into the ropes and nails his Sidewalk Slam as the referee had regained his composure for the three count. While Bossman celebrated the victory, security men came to the ring and escorted the Mountie out of the building never to be seen from again.

Winner: The Big Bossman

Overall Rating: 66%

Promos: Sega, WrestleMania Ad, Hulk Hogan's new movie

In the back, Tatanka is with Sean Mooney. He demands a match with the Repo Man for next week to win back his sacred feathers.

Back to the ring, which is completely set up for the King's Court segment. Jerry Lawler welcomes all the peasants to the King Court. He goes on to say how he is going to give every single WWF superstar the opportunity of a lifetime. The chance to become the Prince of the King's Court. He waits for a superstar willing to take the offer and Virgil's music plays. Virgil comes out and shakes hands with The King. Jerry asks Virg why he believes that he is worthy of being The King's new protege. Virg thinks about it for a few seconds then answers that he deserves it because he can kick the King's ass. Lawler laughs at that statement. He pats Virg on the back and tells him how great he is. Lawler grabs a crown that was laying on his "King Chair" and places it on Virgil's head. He congratulates Virgil on becoming his new Prince. Virgil turns to the crowd with his hands in the air. Lawler unexpectedly hits Virg from behind with a forearm shot to the back of the head. Virgil goes down quickly. Lawler puts the boots to him then picks up the crown he gave to Virgil. He yells that Virgil doesn't deserve to wear this and walks to the back leaving Virgil laid out in the ring.

Another hype video for Hulk Hogan's return airs. The video emphasizes that the Hulkster returns next week on Monday Night Raw!

An ad for the Royal Rumble plays, highlighting the matches that have been set-up thus far.

MAIN EVENT

RICK MARTEL & SHAWN MICHAELS vs. TITO SANTANA & MARTY JANNETTY

A decent match that was actually quite comical as Martel and Michaels who had a brief feud in 1992 couldn't co-exist in a match as they did last week. The two men first argued in the beginning of the match as to who would start against Tito Santana. It ended up being Michaels because Martel pushed him into Santana. Michaels avoided getting into the ring with Jannetty throughout the match as he tagged in a reluctant and argumentative Martel every time Jannetty came in. Finally, Jannetty gots his hands on Michaels after Tito made the hot tag to him while Michaels was still a bit dazed from a flying Jalapeno. Michaels quickly realized that Marty was tagged in and tried to run over to Martel, but Jannetty grabbed him by the hair and pulled him away. This gave "The Model" a good laugh. The end came while Tito and Martel were battling on the outside. Michaels tried to Super Kick Jannetty, but he ducked under it and executed his Rocker Dropper for the victory.

Winner: Marty Jannetty and Tito Santana

Vinnie Mac and Heenan closed this episode of Superstars putting over that Marty Jannetty had just pinned and beaten the Intercontinental Champion.

Good job with the results, easy to read and I love the detail that you're putting into the entire universe you've got there.

From what I've experienced in playing really old school WWF games, is that you will eventually have to phase out the "Superstar vs. Jobber" matches, if you want to put up good ratings so that you can get your company rep up.

Of course in 1993, they only had 5 major PPV's. Which meant that the WWF had to stretch storylines for 3-6 months at a time... very different from the ADHD era we have right now when storylines cycle every month or two, which is why they needed a ton of the "Superstar vs. Jobber" matches.

Superstars was pretty good in my opinion. Not only did it help hype up Jannetty/HBK, But it also saw the last of The Mountie. I'm hoping you'll hire Pierre Oulette and bring in The Quebecers, As the tag team division could use another good team. Smoking Gunns coming in as heels is good in my opinion. I'd love to see a match between them and the Steiner Brothers. I'm hoping Jerry Lawler doesn't feud with a loser like Virgil. I can't wait to see who Lawler's prince will be. Keep up the good work. WWF MONDAY NIGHT RAW Results

Monday, January 18th, 1993

The trio of Vince McMahon, Ron Bartlett and Bobby Heenan introduce Monday Night Raw. They highlight the matches scheduled for tonight and hype the Royal Rumble pay-per-view in just 6 days.

TAG TEAM TOURNAMENT

THE SMOKIN' GUNNS vs. THE NATURAL DISASTERS

The last semi-final match of the WWF Tag Team Tournament. The winner goes on to face High Energy on Superstars to determine the Number one contenders for Money, Inc.'s Tag team gold. This was a suprising good match. The Smokin' Gunns got a lot of good offense in through out the match, but the more experienced and more physically dominating Natural Disasters came out with the win. Typhoon and Earthquake had started taking control using their superior power splashing Billy Gunn into unconsciousness. They double-team Bart and give him the a double splash, first Earthquake, then Typhoon for the 3 count. The Natural Disasters advance to the finals of the WWF tag tournament. They face High Energy on Superstars this week!

Winner: The Natural Disasters

A video package for Hulk Hogan's return tonight!

( 88 )

'Mean' Gene Okerlund is standing in the back with the Tag Team Champions, Money, Inc. He apparently just wants to get their feelings on the two teams in the finals of the tag team tournament. IRS starts off saying that the two teams in the finals have to be the biggest jokes in the division. The two fatest men in the World Wrestling Federation, being the Natural Disasters. And the two smallest little runts, being High Energy. It doesn't matter because Money, Inc. will make either one of them pay the price. DiBiase does his trademark laugh and goes on to say that the two teams will have a high amount to pay if they want to step into the ring with them. Money, Incoporated is the greatest tag team in WWF history. His also lets everyone know that Money, Inc. is in the process of expanding because everybody has a price and everyone in the World Wrestling Federation will eventually pay.

( 76 )

THE KAMIKAZE KID vs. "THE NARCISSIST" LEX LUGER

Lex Luger looked inpressive in his debut match. He came out with a bunch of beautiful women holding huge mirrors for him and his viewing pleasure. This was basically just a squash match. Luger made short work of The Kamikaze Kid as expected. A pretty good match for the length though. Luger just toyed around with the Kid for most of the match before ending it with the Torture Rack submission. The Narcissist celebrated his victory looking at himself in the mirrors when Mr. Perfect came running from the back. Luger saw Perfect in his mirror and turned around to attack, but Perfect nailed his first. A brawl ensued between the two competitors. They brawled to the backstage area as Monday Night Raw went to a commercial break.

Winner: Lex Luger

Overall Rating: 73%

Crowd Reaction: 65%

Match Rating: 81%

Ric Flair was backstage in an interview hyping up himself being in the Royal Rumble. He started of saying to be the man you have to beat the man, and last year he was the man. He guaranteed another Royal Rumble victory. He also claimed that he was going to be the one that tossed Mr. Perfect over the top rope and go on to WrestleMania IX to take on the World Wrestling Federation Champion. Woooo!

( 98 % )

BOB BACKLUND vs. RAZOR RAMON

The challenger for the WWF title against the former WWF World Champion is this match-up. Heenan hyped the possibility of "The Bad Guy" becoming champion in just 6 days. McMahon argued about how good "The Hitman" is and that it is going to be a battle at the Rumble. Razor looks impressive in a match that was made to make his look like a legit contender by beating a former World Champion. It worked. The match was very good, and Ramon got the victory with his patented Razor's Edge.

Winner: Razor Ramon

Overall Rating: 79%

Crowd Reaction: 74%

Match Quality: 85%

After another commercial break, a vignette on Yokozuna showing his dominating wins against many WWF superstars. It hypes him as never being knocked down. The video ends with Fugi yelling that Yokozuna would win the Royal Rumble. Heenan, Bartlett and McMahon all agreed that he was a favorite because who is going to send him over the top rope?

( 80 % )

BAM BAM BIGELOW (w/ LUNA VACHON) vs. THE UNDERTAKER

The Undertaker came out without Paul Bearer and the urn which were taken by Papa Shango last week on Raw. Taker and Bam Bam seem to have amazing chemistry in the ring. These two brawlers put on the match of the night. Great back and forth action with both men getting in their trademark moves. Taker slammed Bam Bam down with a chokeslam and it seemed as though the end was near for Bigelow. Papa Shango emerged from the back holding both Paul Bearer who was tied and gaged and the Undertaker's urn. Taker saw them and started making his way up the aisle. Bam Bam came and hit Taker from behind with a chair getting himself disqualified. Shango laughed and drug a reluctant Bearer to the back with him as Taker and Bam Bam brawled. Road agents and Referees broke it up. As soon as Taker got free of the authorities, he stormed to the back in search of the Voodoo man.

Winner: The Undertaker via DQ

Overall Rating: 80%

Crowd Reaction: 72%

Match Quality: 89%

It's now time for the moment we've all been waiting for! The Fink introduced President Jack Tunney for the special return ceremony. Tunney received the microphone and introduced the Immortal Hulk Hogan. Hogan came out to an amazing crowd reaction. He's still got that charisma that people are just drawn to. Hogan shook Tunney's hand and got the microphone from him. Hogan said how good it feels to be back and that Hulkamania will once again run wild all over the World Wrestling Federation. He made it official that he would be entered into the Royal Rumble match and will move on to face the Champion at WrestleMania. With the help of the little Hulksters, the WWF title will come back where it belongs, and whatcha gonna do brother, when Hulkamania runs wild all over you! Giant Gonzalez and Harvey Whippleman came out right after the catchphrase. Whippleman, with a mic in hand yells at everyone to stop celebrating. He tells Hogan that his Hulksters and his vitamin eating and milk drinking will not save him from the 7'6" 450-plus pound Giant Gonzalez at the Royal Rumble. There should be a celebration tonight but not for the return of Hulk Hogan, but the emergence of Giant Gonzalez. Hogan stops Whippleman is mid-sentence and asks him why wait for the Royal Rumble. Let the Giant step up to the Hulkster right here tonight! Whippleman talks to Gonzalez and agrees, telling Hogan he asked for it. Gonzalez walks into the ring and goes chest to nose to Hogan. Hogan strikes first with a punch to the Giant. He barely moves. Hogan punches him again, still doesn't bother the Giant. Hogan then runs off the ropes and tries to clothesline Gonzalez, still doesn't work. He tries again but the Giant catches him in a choke. He lifts Hogan up and slams him down with a huge Chokeslam! Giant Gonzalez towers over him, as the announcers hype up the dominance that this monster has just shown over Hulk Hogan. Raw takes a commercial break.

Vince McMahon is in the ring. He introduces the current World Wrestling Federation Champion, Bret Hart! The Hitman walks out and gives him glasses to some dorky looking kid in the front row before getting into the ring for the interview. Vince asks him about his Royal Rumble match with Razor Ramon. The Hitman says that he has never been more ready for a match than the one at the Royal Rumble. He plans on making Razor Ramon eat his words and make him take out to the Sharpshooter. He says he's the Best there is the best there was and the best there ever will be and 6 days from now Razor Ramon will realize just how good the Excellence of Execution really is.

( 85 )

MAIN EVENT

DOINK THE CLOWN vs. "MACHO MAN" RANDY SAVAGE

This was a comical match. Doink tried to 'clown' around with Savage in the beginning only to get nailed with a fury of punches. Not exactly a main event match as far as wrestling ability goes, but it was entertaining. In mid-match Savage threw Doink on the outside. Referee Dave Hebner went to tell Savage something, which gave Doink the opportunity to roll under the ring. Another Doink rolled out on the other side of the ring. The fake Doink climbed back in the ring with Savage thinking nothing had happened. Savage still controlled the match and eventually won with his patented Elbow. During Savage's celebration the real Doink came out from under the ring with a fake arm and hit Savage in the back with it. The two Doink started beating on the "Macho Man" until Crush ran down for the save. The two Doink's ran away through the crowd as Crush and Savage embraced as Monday Night Raw went off the air with the announcers hyping the Royal Rumble.

Monday Night Raw was good. It was smart to put Luger in there with someone like Waltman, Who would carry Luger's ass to something good. Hopefully, You'll push The Kid later on in the diary. I'm also glad you beefed up this edition of Raw, With Backlund/Razor, Bigelow/Taker and Doink/Savage, Which all could have been main events. Hogan's return was good, But I don't know about him feuding with Gonzales. I think Hogan should have someone better to feud with. Can't wait until the Royal Rumble. (Y)

Vinnie McMahon and Bobby Heenan welcome everyone to Saturday Superstars, hyping up that we are just one day away from the Royal Rumble. Vinnie Mac runs over the card for tonight and announces that he will conduct a special interview with Hulk Hogan. He claims that Hogan can not wait to get his hands on Giant Gonzalez after what happened on Monday Night Raw this week.

BARRY HOROWITZ & DUANE GILL vs. THE STEINER BROTHERS

Throughout the squash match, Heenan and McMahon put over how good the Steiner Brothers are, and how they could be ready to step up and face the World Tag Team Champs, Money, Inc. Heenan makes fun of the bumbling idiot known as Duane Gill everytime he got in the ring. The Steiners make short work of the Jobber Squad. Scott pins Duane Gill after a Frankensteiner. After the match, The Steiners are celebrating, the Beverly Brothers come from the back and attack them from behind with the Genius yelling instructions to them from ringside. The Beverlys beat down the suprised Steiners.

Royal Rumble Ad.

Vince McMahon is in the ring when Superstars returns. He introduces Hulk Hogan. Hogan does his typical long, drawn-out entrance and shakes hands with McMahon when he enters the ring. McMahon asks him how he feels about Giant Gonzalez after what happened last week on Monday Night Raw. Hogan basically says that Gonzalez made a big mistake interupting the Hulksters ceremony last week. Hogan claims that he is going to go into the Rumble looking for the 7'6" monster, and when he finds him, he is going to 'send his butt flying over the top rope.' McMahon goes on to ask Hogan about the Royal Rumble match tomorrow. Hogan continues by saying he's done it before and he will do it again. Superstars returns with Vince McMahon returning to his announce seat. Heenan says that Hogan has bitten off way more than he can chew. McMahon, of course, disagrees and hypes up the possibility that Hogan could win the Royal Rumble tomorrow. Heenan claims that ridiculous because Flair will indeed win.

JERRY LAWLER vs. VIRGIL

Lawler carries Virgil to a half way decent match. Typical dirty heel using every cheap move in the book to get an advantage against the fiesty underdog face. Lawler controlled most of the match with Virgil getting in sporadic bursts of offense in. Lawler used his cheating tactics to ground Virgil whenever he started getting some momentum. Virg eventually started getting the offensive advantage to the crowd's delight and started to get Lawler reeling. It appeared as if Virgil was on the verge of winning the match up until someone dressed in similar attire to Lawler came down to ringside. The new superstar had the name "Christopher" on the back on his long tights. Wonder who that is? Lawler grabbed referee Mike Chioda to cause a distraction while the Christopher got in the ring and nailed Virgil from behind with a Royal septor, knocking him out cold. Christopher slide out and hid quickly, while Lawler layed over Virg for the three-count. Christopher jumped back in and the two men put the boots to the fallen Virgil. After a few minutes of stomping, "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan ran out from the back swinging his 2x4. Lawler and Christopher ran out of the ring before Duggan could use the object.

Superstars was a pretty good show to hype up the Rumble. I enjoyed both the HBK and Undertaker segments. I hope they walk out of the Rumble with the win. I hope High Energy doesn't win the tournament, I like Owen and everything, But he and Koko were too much of a joke back then. I'd rather see the Steiner Brothers get their chance at Money Inc. Glad to see Christopher debut, Though, I am not looking forward to Lawler/Christopher Vs. Duggan/Virgil. Keep up the good work, Looking forward to the Rumble. (Y)

AH! Was reading from the beginning and hoped I'd get to RR before you stopped.

Good storylines. I can appreciate the old-school feel.

At this point in 93', I'm not sure if RR was ready for the Main Event scene. Certaintly, Bret could carry him up high to the top. I'd give Bret the victory at RR and pull a surprise winner out of the Rumble match itself. (Yoko is to obvious and it's def. reliving history to a T).
